This is just some video log of my first week on the trail. I'll try to post these more regularly, it just takes a bit of work to put it all together and find a good wifi spot to upload while out on the trail. I'm having too much fun out here. Enjoy, and check out lambdinswalkabout.blogspot.com for more thoughts!
Lambdin's Walkabout - PCT Gear 2015
มุมมอง 8K9 ปีที่แล้ว
Here's a gear overview for my 2015 PCT attempt. I feel like I'm definitely taking more things than I'll need, and I don't quite have it refined with lots of complementary items. I think that's how it will be for the start though, and I can always send things home as I find I dont use them often. Total pack weight for the items as shown is about 16.5 lbs. Check out lambdinswalkabout.blogspot.com...
I watched all your videos prior to hiking the PCT in 2016, the year after you hiked it. Now I'm rewatching some of your videos before I hike it next year in 2025, 9 years later. Really loved your videos. Thanks for putting them together and for keeping them here.
That so awesome to hear, glad to know I have provided some inspiration! And you're going back to hike it again too, wonderful to hear. Safe travels out there. The trail provides! :)
Very nice Ken.....ill see you on the trail
What time of year was this?
I started around April 24th - so then and into early May.
@@kenlambdin2505 Thanks. I really enjoyed ur vids. My start date is 4/5/21.
I just hiked that last desert section in April before entering scissors crossing and you wouldn't believe how it looked after all the rain we got this year. Everything was green and lot of flowers.
The fall in Washington is one of the most colorful places in the world if you can put up with the rain and fog. To enjoy the splendor of Washington you need to visit us in August if you want sunshine and warm weather. This year is a bad year with all the fires in surrounding states all the smoke is coming here unless the wind is coming off the coast , we have had the worst air quality for 2 weeks, worst than any place in the world. So I guess feel fortunate with what you got because with climate change the future of the PCT might be waking in smoke from Mexico to Canada.
Awesome video! I’m from Ashland... I want to hike from Hyatt to Crater Lake. Any Advice?
Hey, nice video! I've got a couple questions for you. I'm going on my first hike in June. Do you feel a benefit from using the trekking poles? What do you use for a battery backup or charger? Did you have any cell service on trail?
Damn you are a Snail if it took you 5 weeks to get there !
Did you have to fight any packs of wild dogs Crossing the desert There??
I enjoy watching your videos this is the first one I have watched I subscribe to your channel and look forward to watching the rest of your videos my daughter and I and my son are going to be hiking the Pacific crest Trail March 28, 2018 we would love it if you followed our adventure and look forward to any advice you may have here’s our latest Q&A video th-cam.com/video/2hq2T5NYYfw/w-d-xo.html
Hey Ken, plan to be on the trail in oregon in mid june, what do you think? To early? mmmmorsquitos?
Congrats! Nice videos and some awesome photos......
That raging river near Jefferson? That wasn't from the rain! It was still like that in September after many dry days. (That was Russell Creek, btw)
Outstanding Mate! I have seen dozens of thru-hiking videos and yours is the best. Great attitude. I also love the fact that you did not include lousy, unlistenable stock music or that silly Proclaimers song. Great job. You are a made man!
Ken, Did you ever see any bears up close on your thru hike?
No, I didn't have any bear 'encounters,' just saw a few from far off. I did come across a mountain lion by headlamp one night, pretty spooky...
That really sucks that your phone can only shoot in standard definition video... Shoulda got an iPhone I guess...
That guy at the 10,800 foot summit must be like, "I'm getting too much oxygen, I better light up a cigarette!"
Please, please less face time blocking the great scenery in next video.Otherwise cool vid.
your videos were great. thanks for sharing your experiences
Please use a greater quality setting for your camera. 480 is a little light for todays needs. 780p is really a minimum. Thanks!
What did you do for water that first week?
you don't need rain gear you need a 9 feet by 12 feet plastic tarp from the home depot it will cover everything you need even when walking that will save weight and room for something else
Hey Ken, I have a question for you. When going into Canada, did you have your passport checked? I don't have one, and was just planning on packing back through Washington.
The actual border crossing was quite casual... (no sign of patrolling there, or even all the way to manning park when I crossed.) Keep your options open, and you can always apply for a re-entry permit a few weeks from your eta if needed (they sent me the approved form pretty quickly by email)... I caught a ride back with another hiker, and did need to present the form/passport for re-entry via the freeway crossing.
Thank you much for your help.
Epic adventure Ken.I dream of one day being able to hike the PCT/AT/JMT,any would do lol.
Great film shots. Looks like an awesome place to have been.
Washington looks beautiful and beautifully wet.
U really scored on that trail magic. That guy was planning on eating good!
Cool stuff dude.
I hope I get that view on San Jacinto
Sick scenery. Beautiful!
I am slowly making my way through your journey, it's pretty funny to see the look on my co-workers face when I put your video on....he recognizes your voice and always rolls his eyes that Im following your trip on youtube. Great way to pass the time on my breaks, I enjoy the calm laid back vibe.....very relaxing watch. Thanks!
Thanks for the video =) you are so mellow and pleasant to listen to speak.
Hi there! I really enjoyed your video! I'm planning a section of the PCT next summer and I really really want to do this now!!! I have done several hundreds of pct miles but only in California! -- lol seems like I'll never finish that place! BUT!! -Dreaming of Foggy deep green beautiful Washington forests!! Thanks for the video!
That's awesome brotha. Thank you for sharing your journey. I appreciate it and congrats on finishing !!!!!
what day did you go over Forester pass looked pretty snow free...
+chena3 - Forrester pass on June 16th! There was snow on the north side of the pass, but it was definitely manageable with basic gear.
Awesome job brother!!! Do you think that you can give us an after PCT interview with the things that you learned, if you are different because of the hike, things that you would do differently or leave the same etc?! I would really appreciate a run through of your gear list, the process of sending yourself packages! Thanks!
You have subsonic energy, it penetrates the Earth. Beautiful shots. I watched all of your videos up to this point, it would have been great to see your camp set up at various points and how it changed due to the terrain! Good stuff brother!
What a beautiful trail. Your hike and videos are impressive. Great job. Thanks for the inspiration.
I just discovered them, and I am loving your vids Ken! you (as well as Joe Brewer) have made me "bump up" my plans to do the PCT, so I thank you. also, glad to see that you recognize the most important significance of Vasquez Rocks - Star Trek! mostly, the episode "Arena" .....THE GORN! thanks again!
also, I forgot to mention, ncognit02 - wonderful videos.
Congratulations Ken! Thanks for sharing your journey!
no way!! did not expect you to pull this off so soon well done and thanks for filming!!
Big congratulations to you Ken! PCT thru hiker 2015!!! NOW what? lol
Thanks! Now what indeed... still trying to figure that out myself :)
Nice finish there Ken. Hey you got quite the growth on your chin there. Is that going to stay or are you done with that? I hope you are considering the CDT next.
Thanks man! I'm keeping a bit of the beard, neatened up some. I'm watching some CDT vids too, Joe Brewer and such... we'll see, haha!
Hi Ken, congratulations for finishing your hike through Oregon and Washington!! Are you hiking SoBo to complete the northern section of California? Let us know. Thanks.
you did it! man we are going to miss your videos, hope you do another thru hike in the future was a ton of fun following you
Enjoyed watching your vids...I hope to hike the pct in 2016....congrats on your achievement!
Congratulations. You did a fantastic job of chronicling your journey, too, so thank you, a well. I hope you can come back and hike in Washington in the summer sometime. It's a shame that so many through hikers never get to see how spectacular our mountains are when they aren't covered by the rainy season clouds.
Congratulations !
Bravo!
Thanks for the ride. Inspiration for me before I get too old.
