Chill Brownmouth. This film is sheer poetry and beauty. Sally Hawkins' accent is not in any way annoying. It is endearing and she is beautiful and ultra-real in this film. One of Mr. Leighs very best.

Weals i.e. welsh is an old germanic derogatory which means foreign like some modern people would use wog or wap or dago etc.

For all the bullshit written here about this film, I'll say this. No Rome, No Wales. Welsh I am and this film is far more accurate than you would believe in terms of its portrayal of the fall of rome from a Romano Celtic perspective. Vortigern=OverLord had to call in the "barbarians" to help defend against other tribes of Picts and Scotti (Irish). Read your history!

The F*^K you say? This film has more to with a depiction of Romano-Celtic culture out of which grew modern welsh. English stories??? F*&K off: English didn't even exist. I speak welsh and can tell you that custennin and the other characters really did exist. Another example of IGNORANCE ! I just finished and I loved her warm, optimistic attitude, but she didn't go through any changes in the film. I didn't learn anything about how she grew up, was she bullied, her goals and dreams, where she's been or what she wants. There is a slight confict with a taxi driver in the film, but she leaves him in a horrible mess much worse than how she met him, and Poppy shows no emotion rather than shrugging him goodbye when he'll probably kill himself. She didn't feel human to me.

I really like this movie I wish I was like her or knew more people like her

When I was taking a class on the history of ancient Rome, about once a week my teacher would mention this movie, as well a how "never watch this movie!" and I agree with him.

I wouldn't call my self a happy-go-lucky person and I enjoyed this. Even with the lack of a plot , I enjoyed the ideal of someone having over-the-top optimism like this. I also like how the filmaker played with the viewers biases by introducing Poppy without telling you what she did, when I saw it for the first time I thought her chracter was going to just be a ne'er-do-well until the movie went along, a pretty cool twist I thought.

Only reason I checked this is because it had the golden tomato 2008. Never heard of this film, they should have promoted it more.

The ending was kind of... unfinished though.

i am huge fan of roman empire movies and battles... i read every battle on wikipedia about roman empire... but last legion is most horrible movie i ever seen.....
