Hello Julia, really useful, thank you. Always new things to learn. I love your needle storage box, I have looked but can't find one tht has the correct size inserts. Where did you get yours or was it too long ago to be stll available? Many thanks, Ann
Sorry can't remember but I think it was meant for screws/nails so maybe a DIY store? xx
@julialangley4230 thank you for replying 😁
Looking for the pdf.?..
Have a question Julie. I watched your video a couple days ago. Very informative. I would like ask you what needle and size would you recommend using on my Janome 550e and embroidering through 2 or 3 thicknesses of fabric.Thank you.
Hiya I mainly use the blue tip for the embroidery machine and even at shows when demonstrating on 3mm felts and stabilizer we use the blues. Some metallic threads are better with the red tip(larger hole) xx
@ Thank you for getting back to me with this information. I need to buy some blue tips.Thank you.
Thanks for the great video Julia. What is the best way to dispose of old needles?
Are you looking for the pdf? I found it by searching “cdn website Janome needle Guide pdf”
Would love a pdf
Hello Julia, Thanks for your interesting video about needles. You teached me about microtex. I didn’t know that they are very strong. I only know that I can use them for delicate fabrics and other difficult materials which I want to sew on my machine. Also your Information about ballpoint needles is very helpful.
Welcome back for 2025. Always look forward to your episodes 🇦🇺😁
Really useful, thankyou. (Still no link for PDF?)
Not able to find the pdf, really enjoyed the video
Very informative thank you Julia. I’m not able to find the pdf though, can you guide me where to look?
Thank you for this information. Cannot find pdf.
Thx Julia! Changing needles today. Looking for the PDF.
thank you Julia, very helpful. I cannot find any of the links you have referred to in the tutorial.
Thanks Julia. Really helpful. Looking forward to printed the PDF for future reference. 😊
Thank you, Julia, very helpful. You mentioned a download towards the end of the video. Could you please provide us with the link. Thank you. 😊

I have a Jamone DC3050 and you cannot extend the stitch beyond 2.5.

I just am learning my new Janome 4120QDC machine and this tutorial was the most helpful. Thank you.
What setting do you use for free motion embroidery with the Atelier 3? The instruction manual doesn't mention free motion quilting. I have bought the correct quilting foot set but apart from lowering the feed dog am not sure which setting to press. There's also a different bobbin holder you can use.
Just take your stitch length down to zero on your regular straight stitch, feed dogs down and you should be good to go. Some people prefer the blue dot (low tensikn) bobbin case for fm quilting but for thread painting I usually leave my regular one jn xx
Excellent explanation. I am about to try it for the first time
Can’t wait for this!
Everything seems to be working well as you have shown but the warning beep goes off when free motioning, which is really annoying. Do i need to change a setting. I copied everything you did including open toed foot etc.
Your videos are fantastic. ❤
Thanks so much for this video, I got an overlocker for Christmas and really want to use it properly. Your wonderful video has inspired me and given me the confidence to have a go! I want to make some stretch fleece socks using the overlocker with flat seams (I’ve made a few pairs on the sewing machine but the heel seam especially rubs if the socks are worn with boots). They are great for over socks indoors. Also would you do a video on seam allowance when using an overlocker? I want to also see a basic sweatshirt using just the overlocker. New to sewing garments but have used a sewing machine for lots of other items.
I have that stitch and never thought of using monofilament thread to get the sashiko look. Great idea. Thank you.
Thank you, very clear, without being officious, and actually to the point......pun semi intended
Julia, have you see the Ban-roll technique? I’ve never tried it but seems to have potential. Also, do you think a bit of starch would help for very finicky fabrics that fray?
Beautiful trees block - I’m going to see if I can find that in your videos, thank you Julia.
That was really helpful. Thank you!
I use this foot for my woven necklines and understitching it’s a perfect little foot. Thank you for this video. Finally understand blind hems.
Me too! Top stitching and understitching it's fab!😊
Hi I have a Janome 9400 and will be doing machine applique of a paper airplane in three different colors. I was wondering if I could use monofilament thread in both bobbin and top thread? Also what tension should I set it on and what kind of needle would you use? Really nervous bout getting started.
I tend to only use the monofilament on the top and something neutral in the bottom like a grey or ecru (polyester rather than 100%cotton so it will have a bit of stretch as the monofilament does too. Tension should be fine if you use a lightweight stabilizer underneath or even a wash away one ...do a few testers first. Needlewise , go for an 80 or a bluefin Janome which is a 75. Also try and use an upright spool for the monofilament and keep your speed low. xxx
Would it be helpful to have some sort of stabilizer on the felt or does it work okay without it?
I don't find it needs it usually as the felt is pretty solid. Some can be quite fluffy though and they may need fa stitch 'n' tear. xx
Such a pleasant tutorial! I have saved this in my "gotta try this" file! Haha!
I didn't see where you stated what ruler you use. Does it have to be a special brand or certain height or are they all the same as long as it's clear?
What a fantastic tutorial! I have not tried this on my new Janome 9480 yet and you have given me the confidence to give it a go! Thank you!
These are so pretty, Julia! I'm inspired to explore more of my decorative stitches now! Thank you!
Have fun 😊
Thank you Julia! I have a M-8, hoping to try this when I get home!
I don’t know what I’d do without your videos, I’m doing the Seasons in stitch and couldn’t fathom out how to edit the stitches for the snowflakes. Now I do! If only I could draw a decent tree. Thank you
Thank you Julia for this very nice video. Your explaining about changing the stitch with at programming stitch combinations is very clearly and now I’m understanding this much better. Thank you so much and have a nice day.
Glad it helps😊
I've been searching for some time about how to do lettering...this was very helpful. Thank you!
Evening all!
Hi I have a horizon memory craft 8200qcp , how do I save my monogram… I’m sure I saw I could save but can not find 😢April
Hai Julia, I like your video's. Each time I learn more about my sewing machine. Which I woud otherwise never use 🤔🙃
Wonderful! Just what we want😊
Thankyou. I'm in the middle of a big applique project right now and have just been using Utility no 8 zig zag. You have really broadened my horizons
That's great! Happy stitching😊
Thanks Julia 🧵
Thank you for the tips. I’ve had trouble in the past with that first inch of the hem. This is so helpful. Glad TH-cam makes it possible to learn from the UK to Texas.
You're welcome 😊 x
Hello Julia, Thanks for explaining the rolled hem on the sewing machine. It isn’t difficult but it takes time to learn it very well.
Evening👋
Just found you - looking forward to learning about my Janome machines - can't make the live sessions but hopefully can watch them in my own time?
Welcome! The videos stay up so you can catch up whenever suits you! xx
