Random trains at Gomez and West Bakersfield August 2024: MRL, NS leader and MORE!
A random compilation of trains in Bakersfield from the last couple weeks! Lots of special stuff here! We start with SJVR 3818 leading a nice long manifest at Rosedale Hwy crossing (about 1/2 mile north of the wye at Gomez on the SJVR Landco Sub). After that we head a spot I like to go to often by Gomez on the BNSF Bakersfield Sub for a couple trains at the old Mohawk St crossing which has been removed after a bridge was constructed in 2009. Here we see a wb BNSF oil train (which came not long after the SJVR train as I was headed back on my scooter to Gomez so we stopped on the side of Mohawk Street out of traffic to see the beginning of the train before catching the end of it at the old crossing) and eb Z-STOWSP with MRL 4317 trailing 2nd! 2 days later we came back to that same spot after hearing of a wb BNSF U-NMEHLG Military train with all NS power! Also in this video is Amtrak 703 featuring F59PHI units (CDTX 2007 and CDTX 2004) and a wb grain train with normal standard BNSF power. Enjoy the video and please don't forget to like and subscribe! Earlier today 8/14/24 I decided to head to downtown Bakersfield to get a couple trains. Not any super special stuff today but did manage to get AMTK 90278 cabbage leader on A712 and a CP trailing 2nd on a wb BNSF H-BARPAS! Tonight was the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the Town and Country shopping center here in Bakersfield! This was my first time attending this very popular event. I had lots of fun and ran into several friends out there. This is within walking distance of my house so I decided to check it out and I'm glad I did! Here we have some highlight clips! Nice video! Equipment was from 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team; 7th Infantry Division from Fort Lewis, WA heading to National Training Center ~ Decisive Action (Training) Rotation 22-03. The rotation wasn't held until January but due to the holidays equipment was forwarded early.
Excellent catch! These 89 M1A1 Abrams main battle tanks are headed from Sierra Army Depot @ Herlong, CA to Norfolk Southern @ Memphis, TN. Then to Anniston Army Depot @ Anniston, AL. The tanks are stripped of useable parts then the hull & shell of the turret are sent for refurbishment to 0 mile condition at Lima, OH tank plant. Where they will be rebuilt into M1A2 SepV3 for the US Army or one of several variants for foreign customers like Poland, Morocco, Romania, etc.
Cool catches! I caught the U-NTWEES east of Belen, NM and it was only 3x0, must've combined two trains somewhere along the line. Wow that's cool to see a 9 unit Geo train, never heard of that happening ever before...
I hadn't either until that day! For the U-NTWEES I'm guessing the DPUs got added in Barstow most likely. Thanks for watching!
Such big trains and small platforms! I noticed the Amtrak had a single level coach that's a former NJT Comet I.
Yes the San Joaquins have a comet car because apparently the BNSF Bakersfield Sub that they run on has a certain minimum axle count for each train because if the crossings or something like that and they don't have enough bilevel cars to meet the minimum. But soon they are getting all new new single level cars (they tested them last week--I'll have a short video of them up soon) so they'll look much different soon.
We just missed each other by a couple of days

I must say I got fairly lucky, I seen the lights way off in the distance (I think it was at Rogas working but I'm not sure), and so I went and grabbed a coffee and came back out and the train was on the move! Now I hope to see some action at Stine Rd and the little spur that goes across District Blvd!
