More home movies... starting out with birthday party, time spent on our boat on Philpott Lake. My stepdad's family cookout at the lake, me and my neighbors Rodney and Ronald, family at Myrtle Beach, SC (Continental Motor Inn), more Philpott Lake and boating, me and my cousin Jeff. Finally my sweep pup Duffy. He was the coolest pup.

More of the home movies I've been converting here... we used to go camping at Philpott lake and my stepdad had access to an old bus that was converted to a camper(ish). Some of our family on one of those camp outs at Salthouse Branch. Another birthday party... neighbors and school friends. Yep, that's me wearing the purple fringe vest (mom made it for me and I thought I was hot shit). Another C...

We moved to Collinsville in the summer of 1969 so everything here took place during the early part of living there. There's lots of birthdays, Christmases, and family. My dad's family and my Mom's family. Cousins, neighbors, friends and my kitty Samantha. Also a trip my mom and I made to GA to see cousins and a visit to Six Flags over Georgia.
Hawaii 1975

My grandparents took me with them to Hawaii in 1975. We flew from Richmond, VA to San Francisco and then on to Honolulu. The flight was a charter American Airlines 707. We spend 5 days in Honolulu at the Ala Moana Hotel. We flew to Kona and spent 4 days at the Kona Hilton. From there we took a motor coach across the big island through Volcanoes National Park. Our final stop was Hilo.

Carnival Carnivale 1977
มุมมอง 1.1K4 ปีที่แล้ว
In 1977, my grandparents took me on vacation with them again. This time on the Carnival Carnivale which was Carnival's 2nd ship. She was launched as the Empress of Brittain. She was the second ship that Carnival bought (after the Mardi Gras). She didn't have quite as nice lines as Mardi Gras, but she was a fine ship. I met the Knight family from CA and made friends. They are some of the other p...
Mardi Gras Cruise 1976

I was around 12 years old when I went on my 1st cruise. My grandparents took me along... Carnival's first ship... the Mardi Gras. She was launched as the RMS Empress of Canada and sailed for the CP line. Carnival bought her and slapped some tropical paint around and the glory days of the Caribbean cruise was born. I was a lot better at being a 12 year old than I was a cinematographer. We sailed...

I teach at a creative/design school and we take students out once a month to shoot video for a project they edit themselves. We're in a really nice neighborhood when this crackhead gives us quite the show trying to get back on his bicycle.
Dexter arrives in Miami.m4v

Flight to Miami before a cruise. Flight crew acted like they were stoned and didn't make any announcements after an hour. Never told us to put away our electronics so I didn't. Used music from the series Dexter because the show takes place in Miami and... I love it. This is our approach as we came down the coast over SoBe and downtown and turned West. Turned again over West Dade Co. and approac...

SS Norway boiler room explosion news coverage

I work for a TV station in VA, so after the explosion I did a couple phone interviews as the event made national news. CBS coverage also included as well as some fly over footage done by Miami stations for affiliates.
Sobe stay

After the cruise we spent 2 nights in SoBe. Visits to Lincoln Rd. and Delano Hotel are here. I shot a ton of video in the Delano and as we were leaving I was stopped and told that taking photos/videos was not allowed. They didn't take my tape away from me though.
the only 2024 comment shall be me i guees.
Things have definitely been quiet around here… I guess the farther away from her demise, the fewer people remember or care.
Thanks for sharing
that was my moms first time she went on a cruise and it was this ship in the 1980s
I went on that ship in 1984 as a high school graduation present! Oddly enough, the second cruise I went on in 1987, was the ship at 5:10! But when I rode it it was the MS Southward, owned by NCL!
Thank you for posting. I worked on her for years as an Entertainer. So many wonderful memories!
www.professionalmariner.com/eight-crew-killed-by-steam-boiler-explosion-aboard-norway/
My father Gino Sauda was the Chief Engineer ,the Captain was mr Fossati, i went on that ship 4 times for a month every suer until my dad passed away in 78 for a cancer he was only 49 yrs old. Thank you so much for posting this video it was very nice to see details i had in memory i wish i could see more.
That is fantastic. Compared to the mega ships of today, the Carnivale looks like a tramp steamer. You need to contact John Heald of Carnival and let him see this video.
I’m glad you had the original audio from 1977 to go with it
This video is wonderful! My parents (now happily divorced) honeymooned on CARNIVALE in 1990. Always wondered what it really looked like. This is amazing crystal clear footage from back in the day! I appreciate this! My first ever cruise was on FANTASY in 2004, I was only ten. So I mean, I didn't quite get on the older Carnival ships. The oldest one I've sailed was the refitted GRAND CELEBRATION. Just really neat to see the one of the old non-winged funnel Carnival cruise ships.
and that video is interesting that you cruised her for your first time in 1976
and you know that the ss festivale she was out of service in 1996 and she was phurchesed from by premier cruise lines the only reason they sold for scrap the ship is because premier cruise lines was defunct in 2000
hey joel sink remember 11 years ago you show us that video when you were aboard the ss norway after here boiler explosion and you said that you hope that the ship will come back but we know what happen to the ss france/ss norway she was sold for scrap in 2005 right on the beaches of alang india nobody saved her so she's gone because back from march 24th of 2004 the chief of ncl think that the ss norway will never sail again in the news of may 25th 2003 bill hugget said that they have a ship as old as the norway and it was poorly mainteen it have some problem and superheated steam trainduses to the silver war and it's dangerous so that's why the ss norway was scrapped or the ss france they said the the norway was ordered in july 26th 1956 and she was launched at may 11th 1960 because of the coonstruccion of the queen mary 2.
Thank you for sharing this video. I was working onboard during her final days and it is still one of my favourite ships.
I'm glad I could bring back some good memories... I absolutely loved that ship. From her history as one of the last great liners to her 2nd life with NCL. I still think it's such a shame she didn't end up permanently docked somewhere in France.
@@joelsink totally agree! I would love to have seen her again.
If you liked the S/S Norway, you'll love the S/S Mystic Rose. "A rose by any other name ..." www.jamaicanfarewell.com/deck_plans.htm
We sailed her 3 times & almost had trip #4, 😤😤😤😤. Sad to know we never got that one more voyage.
As a big fan of the Ocean Liners and passenger on some, her drawn out fate makes me sad. I remember walking around QE2 much like you did on Norway in this video on my last night aboard in July 2008, except with the knowledge I’d never be onboard her again in active service. I also mourn the crew who died the next morning on Norway and those whose lives were changed for ever by serious injury. NCL let her and them down big time.
Joel Sink. Hello. As I am watching this again, I thought I would update you. I am all right now. I have more people in my life now. I am no longer alone. It is sad that Norway is gone, but I am not as obsessive about her being sunk. Back then, I barely had anyone, not I have over a hundred.
A truly beautiful ship. I have the Bahamian flag shown in this video as well as one of the POST flags she flew in the mid 80s when she was Norwegian registered and also other SS Norway items such as t shirts, mugs, a life jacket and life ring, all recovered from India.
I was a crew member at the time it was real scary ,I remember it all to well! The crew that lost their lives may you RIP ,SS Norway will all ways live in my heart .
Did you know a girl named Tara who was one of the entertainers/ dancers on the ship?
Thank you for posting that great video...really enjoied it..:-) It is so sad that beautifful ships like ss norway were replaced with ugly modern cruise ships...;-(
Lovely video about such a beautiful ship that stayed strong and created wonderful memories. One of the best crews on a vacation liner. I understand everything happens for reason, She'll return, in a different yet elaborate way, but she'll be back :-)
Your video Was very good! I really loved the Norway! Could you tell me the name of the songs that appeared in the previous version of this video? Please, I really need it.
Hey everyone..Vice fan? 80's music fan? check out this sweet little batman fan film which features phil collins and journey th-cam.com/video/QBK2dsU9dNQ/w-d-xo.html
That explosion was the definitely final of that ship because it never sailed again and sadly was scrapped in 2008 at India after 46 years of existence.
SS Norway's steam propulsion, antiquated as early as the 1930's, was still a viable and profitable means for large ships well into the 1960's.....This ship's type of power propullsion at this time was not questionable about safety...but if neglected in the future.. it would be. New owners from a new era, not as aware of dangers of steam
While I understand your sentiments Tyler, as someone who was on the ship when the boiler room explosion occurred I strongly disagree. There may have been more loss of life if the ship had not already been docked with immediate access to medical care.
+Joel Sink You're right Mr. Sink, My Apologizes. Sorry that it took so long in Getting back to you, I just read your comment just now. I understand your view, for years, I was putting ships above people and only last year did I change my view, and when I wrote my last comment, I was adjusting to my new path. You're right had it happened at sea, it would have been a real life version of The Last Voyage. Thank you for addressing to me and again, sorry it took so long to respond.
I am at peace with preserving Norway's memory, but I still wish that explosion occur at sea.
Norway...
??
holy shit what happened in there???
It had a disco called Club Dazzles What a nice ship it was
I was on the Norway right after it was the FRANCE, and was in 1978
Doug - the Norway was comissioned in 1980.
It's a track by Mogwai called Auto Rock. Enjoy.
thanx uploader... i 've been looking for this..
Big thanks to everybody who liked the vid.
great shots nice job bud!
great great great!
Thanks Bloggerboy!
This deserves thousands of views.
She was scrapped for several reasons... she would not have met the next round of SOLAS rules for safety, custom construction of a new boiler cost and NCL was much more interested in new-builds. She should have gone back to France to be a floating museum, but nobody had the money to make that happen. So sad...
Even the Queen Mary and United States have an uncertain future, and the wealth of Dubai might not be enough to save the QE2 . Old ocean liners still burn ,$$$ even if stationary.
thank you so much for this nice video on SS NORWAY , I lovely , I have to doing 6 cruising on board, and in 2006 I 'm to go to ALANG for to see the last time , you are 2 videos on youtube .
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
what was it like on the ship during/after the explotion? was it really scary?
RIP SS NORWAY You were the last jewell of the sea lost that day :'(
ppl died and that’s what ur worried about
Nice music and relaxed shots - made me think about that city.:) check out my video about Miami as well;)
thanks. it brought tears to my eyes. sad that she is nothing but spoons, forks, and razor blades now. she was truly a noble lady whose time ended too soon.
Es ist wirklich eine Schande, dieses Schiff hätte man erhalten müssen... Ich habe selbst auf ihr gearbeitet. Die Bilder aus Alaang waren ein wirklicher Schock!
@grandbosse I feel the same way except I feel like that for RMS Queen Mary 2 and RMS Queen Elizabeth 2, and I just hope that none of these Queens suffer the same fate as the beautiful "Blue Lady" did, nor do I want them to suffer the fate of the ss united states. Norwegian Cruise Lines has done 2 extremely bad acts that really anger me to the point of ripping my hairs out, bad act 1. What they did to France or Norway, 2. They don't care for ss united states, but like you said the will live.
All I can say is thank you! Its hard to believe next month will mark 7 years since I stepped off her decks. Just watching the video all the senses came back, especially her scent, she had a very distinct smell, as do all old ships and I could almost sense it again watching these images. So great yet so sad. Thanks for the memory.
i know that... i kinda figured it out...
