    thanks. it brought tears to my eyes. sad that she is nothing but spoons, forks, and razor blades now. she was truly a noble lady whose time ended too soon.

    All I can say is thank you! Its hard to believe next month will mark 7 years since I stepped off her decks. Just watching the video all the senses came back, especially her scent, she had a very distinct smell, as do all old ships and I could almost sense it again watching these images. So great yet so sad. Thanks for the memory.

    Lovely video about such a beautiful ship that stayed strong and created wonderful memories. One of the best crews on a vacation liner. I understand everything happens for reason, She'll return, in a different yet elaborate way, but she'll be back :-)

    Thanks for your comment. I completely agree with you that at heart she was still SS France. I was lucky enough to sail on her 2 times and I spent so much time searching for the parts of the ship that were mostly unchanged from her grand days. Her memory haunts me often... she had such a personality compared to contemporary vessels. I sincerely hope that you are right and she'll sail next to me for the rest of my life.
    Again, thanks.
    Joel

    I really enjoyed this video. I sailed on the Norway 4 times in the 1990's then watched my beautiful friend die viewing other videos of her demise in Alang. Other nicely made tributes made me sad but this one was fun, excellently edited and it showed what a week was really like on the S.S. Norway - lots of laughter, new friends, upbeat music, fun tours and great memories in the making. The variety of shots and scenes is really good. Great job!! Thank-you

    A truly beautiful ship. I have the Bahamian flag shown in this video as well as one of the POST flags she flew in the mid 80s when she was Norwegian registered and also other SS Norway items such as t shirts, mugs, a life jacket and life ring, all recovered from India.

      I'm glad I could bring back some good memories... I absolutely loved that ship. From her history as one of the last great liners to her 2nd life with NCL. I still think it's such a shame she didn't end up permanently docked somewhere in France.

    thanks for sharing this wonderfull memory. i saw the norway in 1999 and 2001 both times in bremerhaven. i was thirteen when i first saw her and heard her beautiful loud voice, i think she was my first true love :). im only sad that i never had the chance to sail with her. when i flew to nyc this may i would have prefered to take the "france" than air france which i did....

    Thanks for your comment. I agree it is ironic that the part of the ship that received the worst damage is the part that still stands today. Yes, that is the Carnival Victory at St. Maarten. If you watch my "Sailing Day" video you'll see her casting off ahead of us and departing. Again, thanks for sharing your thoughts about this great ship. It's so sad to think that she's almost gone.

  • @joelsink
    @joelsink  13 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    She was scrapped for several reasons... she would not have met the next round of SOLAS rules for safety, custom construction of a new boiler cost and NCL was much more interested in new-builds. She should have gone back to France to be a floating museum, but nobody had the money to make that happen. So sad...

      Even the Queen Mary and United States have an uncertain future, and the wealth of Dubai might not be enough to save the QE2 . Old ocean liners still burn ,$$$ even if stationary.

    As a big fan of the Ocean Liners and passenger on some, her drawn out fate makes me sad. I remember walking around QE2 much like you did on Norway in this video on my last night aboard in July 2008, except with the knowledge I’d never be onboard her again in active service. I also mourn the crew who died the next morning on Norway and those whose lives were changed for ever by serious injury. NCL let her and them down big time.

    Es ist wirklich eine Schande, dieses Schiff hätte man erhalten müssen... Ich habe selbst auf ihr gearbeitet. Die Bilder aus Alaang waren ein wirklicher Schock!

    Thank you for sharing Joel. No doubt you have captured a piece of history, and fine editing to boot. She will surely be missed. Kind of ironic that the same funnel that the smoke came out of in the boiler explosion, is the very same one that still stands as of right now and overlooks what remains of this majestic and historic vessel. Of which you have captured great footage of the funnels, and deck life. Is that the Carnival Victory that appears at about 3 minutes in?

    WHY scrap such an elegant ship?surely many would love to live on it as a nice SEAWORTHY houseboat.

  • @WamsWarrior
    @WamsWarrior 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    The boiler explosion is what ended her????? Sooooo sad. She was a pretty ship for being old. Well I guess you need to get rid rid a ship if you are losing more money than making more money.

  • @tomterahedrob
    @tomterahedrob 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    i think money somehow is getting in the way of doing the more efficient thing.God I wish such ships were never scrapped.Its just wrong.

    @grandbosse I feel the same way except I feel like that for RMS Queen Mary 2 and RMS Queen Elizabeth 2, and I just hope that none of these Queens suffer the same fate as the beautiful "Blue Lady" did, nor do I want them to suffer the fate of the ss united states. Norwegian Cruise Lines has done 2 extremely bad acts that really anger me to the point of ripping my hairs out, bad act 1. What they did to France or Norway, 2. They don't care for ss united states, but like you said the will live.
