Again great video and it shows how you can utilise these sounds especially put through an effects processor like you have done and it certainly enhances the options. The PSS 570 as you say, and rightly so, it is similar but the subtle difference is, it uses PCM drum sound and there are a total of around 32 different drums. Like the 470, it also features the digital synthesiser but in addition, the digital synthesiser 570 can be utilised with the on board accompaniments. Again, they’re actually not too bad models and again, enhancing the sound capability through an affects processor and multitrack recording with these type of keyboards and others brings out the best within the capabilities and again, the sounds are not bad including the cosmic sound, organ sounds et cetera. I’ve owned many different models of keyboards over many years including these mentioned. I’ve recently salvaged the big brother PSS 680 which again is fantastic, I owned one of those years ago and regretted selling it but I’m going to hang onto this one which is in mint condition and I ended up only paying £30 though the previous owner was looking for £25, I gave her an extra five as she met me at her local train station and she bought batteries so again, I thought I’d give her a bit extra which is well appreciated and of course, the power supply is included.. The PSS 680 was the flagship portable small sized keys keyboards back in 1988 and there’s a smaller brother in that series called the PSS 480 which is like the 680, but there are a few drums missing, only 49 keys, no pitch bend wheel or stereo symphonic. Again, it features the same digital synthesiser facility as the 680. A year or so later, the PSS 780 was introduced and it looks exactly the same as the 680 with different accompaniments and some the same and the colour of the drum pads et cetera are different but apart from that, it is virtually the same as Yamaha used to do this back in the day, they would bring out models, a rehash of predecessor models. Yes extremely interesting and again, it goes to show, these small mean machines certainly sound so professional put through an effect processor and yes, a lot of these small models which some folk class has toys, have even been included on popular, music recordings.

I've had one of these for several months now and I can vouch that it makes some fantastic noises. It is a shame it has no midi in because the tiny keyboard is extremely difficult to use. And so is the tiny interface. I wish they could have made it Volca sized with a bigger keyboard and screen, then maybe I could live without midi in. But midi in would make it much more useful. Nonetheless, it is a lot of fun for $50.

I have a PSR-36 which is a full-sized version with 32 voices including the ones in the PSS-470 and also uses the YM-3812 two-operator FM generator. It also has a rhythm and chord loop recorder and has 5-pin MIDI in/out ports. I connected a midi keyboard to test the operation and added a delay/reverb stereo pedal to the stereo audio output and it really has awesome bass and bell tones! I also have a new PSR-E473 and its 290 rhythms are way too song-specific to be used in general keyboard playing for the most part. This old 1988 FM synth with 16 rhythms has a more fun set of drum patterns and useful rhythms not to mention cheaper, simpler and all without any electronic display.

I have Ableton Live, which is great, but I have never got the tight MIDI timing that I used to get with my old Roland R8, which is still a great machine (it came out in 1989, but was very advanced, in fact it's sequencer is at least as good as anything made today). I made a couple of house-ish tracks in Ableton, it was okay but I couldn't get it sounding tight. I remade the track in my Korg Electribe 2 Sampler, yes! I've got that tight sounding rhythm like I used to get with my R-8! It's really a night and day difference! By the way, I've got s background in IT, so I've turned everything off in Windows such as the system sounds, and removed everything that isn't needed for music production- I made this PC myself with really good components for music production only. But even with all this power, the timing is off, very frustrating!

The plot’s stupidity thickens… NECESSARY DISCLAIMER DUE TO NEARLY EVERYONE ON THE PLANET COMING DOWN WITH WOKE/I’M SUCH A VICTIM AND I LOVE TO BE BUTTHURT SYNDROME OVERNIGHT A FEW WEEKS AGO: I mean Behringer being “stupid”; I wasn’t calling you “stupid”. Although I knew the traditional MIDI genitals most synths have was strangely and straitjacket-deservingly omitted from this…bless Behringer’s hearts…I bought it hoping to assuage my grief over my Roland JP-8000’s succumbing to AIDS recently. Yeah, no. I think I may shell out for that Korg app, so maybe I’ll “experience” this synth a little deeper, but I don’t think I’d better hold my breath waiting for Mr. Spock to happen, or anything.
