Repairing the Rust Holes in the Back of my Dentside Ford Truck Cab!
มุมมอง 93616 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
We're moving on to the back of the cab and you guessed it, more rust! The back of this cab is in desperate need of repair. The back wall is completely loose from the floor assembly with rust all the way through the mounting flange. This week, I'll cut out the rusty rot and repair both the floor flange and the cab wall. We're making progress one week at a time!
Lower Door Post Installation and Repair on My Dentside Ford F150!!!
มุมมอง 42214 วันที่ผ่านมา
We're ticking away at all the cab repairs on my 1975 Ford F150. This week I finally get the door posts installed and bring some much needed rigidity back to this cab. It wasn't as simple as welding in the repair panels. First, I had to remove the rust and mangled metal leftover from disassembling the cab. With a blank slate, I fabricated a new piece to attach the door post out of flat 18 gauge ...
Installing New and Fixing Old Rocker Panels on my DENTSIDE FORD!

The passenger side of the truck goes under the knife, errr the cutoff wheel this week! I get all the old rot and panels cut out and repair the original outer rocker before installing all new repair panels for the inner rocker and door jambs. The old Dentside F150 is back on solid ground and ready for the next repair steps!
Rocker Repair and Replacement on My DENTSIDE Ford!!!
มุมมอง 78428 วันที่ผ่านมา
It's finally time to cut the rot out of the cab and get on with the repairs. This week I'll make big progress cutting the floors and rusty panels out of the drivers side of the cab. Once the rust was clear, I went to work on repairing the damaged cross braces and cleaning up the mounting points for the new panels. The nest step was to rebuild the outer rocker panel. This panel is not commercial...
Stabilizing the Cab and Preparing For MAJOR Rust Repair!!!

First goal of this week is to get the cab into a safe position to cut the rust out of the cab. I’ll build a brace to hold the cab up by the cowl. Next, I’ll review all the replacement panels for the cab and my plan to execute the repairs. There’s a long road ahead but I’m excited to learn and fix up grandpa’s abandoned F150!

It's finally time to get to work on the cab! But before I can start chopping the rust out, I need to get the cab out of storage and back to my shop. My dad, nephew and I were able to get the cab out of dad's lumber shed and loaded on the trailer with the skidsteer. That was the easy part. The hard part was getting it unloaded, by myself, without heavy equipment. I'll show you how to build a che...
REVIVING an Abandoned International Pickup Truck! WILL IT RUN AND DRIVE?!
มุมมอง 10Kหลายเดือนก่อน
We pulled this 1972 IH 1110 truck out of the weeds to see if it will run and drive after 11 years off the road. My dad and nephew gave me a hand this week with the goal of driving this old International Harvester truck back to my dad’s shop. I love this old truck and I have big plans for it. Stick around until the end of the video for a sneak peek at my vision for this truck.
PAINTING the Bottom of My Dentside Truck Bed + Q&A With a Good Friend
มุมมอง 3492 หลายเดือนก่อน
Watch for the spray bomb rebuild of the truck bed, but stay for the conversation between me and my friend Jeff. Jeff and I get the opportunity to hang out and ask each other questions about both of our projects and our love of cars. It's a little bit different type of video this week, but if you stick it out, you'll get to know me personally a little better.
Repairing the RUSTY Floor of My Dentside Ford Truck Bed!
มุมมอง 5802 หลายเดือนก่อน
This week I finally wrap up the last of the repairs on our modified Ford short bed. It's ugly work but it has to be done. The LMC floor patches I purchased did not match the original stamping of the bed floor. Unfortunately, this led to some tough decisions about when "good" is "good enough". The end product isn't perfect but it's miles ahead of the rusty floors I cut out. Come hang out with me...
Shorter Than a Short Bed?! Bobbing 4" Off the Back of a DENTSIDE Ford Truck Bed
มุมมอง 4.3K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
My custom dentside short bed was finally back together and mostly rust free...so what did I do...CUT IT APART AGAIN! This time I'm taking four inches off the tail of the bed. This will bring the overall length of the bed to 6' 6" and I believe will be more visually appealing. Come hang out with me as I cut the bed apart, fit the panels back together and get the quarter panels all welded up. 00:...
How I plan to fix an UGLY Ford design!
มุมมอง 3382 หลายเดือนก่อน
On this week's episode I figure out how to fix what I think is the biggest aesthetic downfall of all short bed Dentside trucks. The tail on these beds is long and just doesn't look right to my eye so I'm taking 4" off the back of this bed. I'll take you inside my thought process and layout exactly how we are going to bob the back of this bed. You can take this info and modify your F100, F150 or...
REPAIRING the Rusty Quarter Panel on My Dentside Ford Truck Bed!
มุมมอง 5652 หลายเดือนก่อน
This bed on this F150 is a mess! The old bondo repair is failing badly and it's time to get it fixed. On this week's episode, we dive into how to repair what's already been repaired terribly once. I had to sand most of the bondo out of the bed side, repaint the areas I sanded then finally get the patch panel cut, fit and welded into place. The end result is fantastic! This sheet metal repair ma...
Finding and repairing HIDDEN RUST DAMAGE behind the truck bed quarter panel!
มุมมอง 3303 หลายเดือนก่อน
Well I started this episode with the intention of repairing the heavily damaged lower quarter panel of my Dentside Ford F150 truck bed. Once I cut out the rot I could see, I found a whole bunch more structural rot under bed side. This week I tackle fabricating a sheet metal brace from scratch and repairing rust damage to the underside of the truck bed. Once this is complete I'll be able to tack...

Got it going on Cody, that looks great!
I wish Harbor Freight had free delivery.
Great job on your dentside.
And by the way great work so far keep going . You obviously have done your research .rust repair sux lol.
Looking good
I agree with most of what you are saying, but be careful with comments like show quality repairs. You still need to do them correctly, or it will cause more rust at an accelerated pace . Just words of caution.
why does this guy not have more subscribers, Love this vid
Thanks, I appreciate that! Glad you liked the video!
I loved into a house with my first garage of my own (finally!) and watched this video. Got the 5 drawer cart and it has been so awesome and I’m already ready to go add a 42” hahaha. Awesome video
Congrats on the new tool cart and garage! Hope you put them both to good use!
If you bolt 2 boxes together you end up with 4 non swivel casters. How do you manage to move them around with that configuration?
I personally don’t move my boxes around once I have them in place but there are a couple options. One is to replace the non swivel casters with swivel casters. If you have a setup like mine with the narrow box, I wouldn’t have a problem removing the static casters from the smaller box and placing the swivel casters on the same side of both boxes. Basically your smaller box will only have two casters on it, swivel casters on the outside. I’d be more hesitant to go that route if I had two 42” boxes.
Nice
When I get my tax return I'm going to buy the 42-in box in blue. I can only fill a third of it, but in the next several years I'll be buying a lot more tools
Thanks for the video...I was trying to figure out why the rear cross member on my 79 150 frame has only 1 hole in the top flange yet my frame has 2 holes (each side)...mystery solved ,someone swapped in one from a 75 F150. Learn something every day with these dents. Cheers. ...I was searching vids for dentside frames.
Glad the video was helpful! Thanks for watching!
Hi, thanks for making these videos! I have the same welder and truck. Could you tell me what settings are working best for you and what wire you are running? Gas, wire and heat? I feel like I’m not getting enough sizzle. More popping than anything. I even welded a fresh piece of metal to the side of the bed to ground to.
I will try to help as best I can. I usually start with the recommended settings on the chart attached to the inside door of the wire feed area. I'll have to double check my welder settings when I'm in the shop tomorrow night, but I will get back to you on that. I was running 0.030 wire and 75% Argon/25% CO2 gas. If it's not a grounding issue, and you are getting a lot of popping, you may just need to dial in your wire feed speed. Hard for me to tell you which way to go, but if it's a pop, delay, pop, delay as you hold the trigger you may need to increase the wire feed speed. If it's rapid popping in succession you may need to decrease your wire speed. If you are burning through the metal quickly you'll have to adjust your voltage down.
@ so far our set up is identical. Same welder, wire and gas. I’ve been trying everything from factory recommended settings to trial and error (more error obviously) to whatever else I can think of. I’ll be honest, I’ve only messed around with it for maybe 30-45 minutes total cause I’m trying to milk every ounce of good weather till it has to remain in the garage for the winter. EDIT: You running it on 110 or 220? This winter I’ll be taking the bed off and doing the rear QA1 and the metal work on the bed. Thanks for the reply.
the 5 draw cart is currently on sale for $189 right now. perfect time to buy if anyone is looking for one.
5 drawer Black Friday coming up $189
Nice repair! 👌😎
Thanks man, I appreciate it!
A 42" hutch would be nice to see also
Just curious but have you ever considered a rust converter like OSPHO? Seems like it might be helpful in a situation were you can’t reach the rust without completely disassembling something.
I haven’t but I’m going to pick a bottle up and try it out. My daily driver could use some surface rust maintenance so this might be a good option for that as well.
Nicely done!
Thanks bud!
Great job on that too!
Thanks brother!
First comment win, i love watching someone else working on a old rusty ford. Mine is a 71 f250 390 and i am cutting it up into a short bed hot rod
Awesome! Sounds like a fun project! Good luck with the build!
damn! I wish I could get US prices over here in down under
Do you still have the series 3 toolbox? I brought a book build a motor twice n the whole car cuts off
I had never considered US General prior to watching your comparison video. I WAS considering a Husky combination chest. Thank you for taking the time to put together what I think is a well thought out review of these boxes.
I bought the 5 drawer hart. It’s pretty great but I really wish I would have bought the full drawer cart
Aren't you somebody i talk to about this prime mecainc businesses can you do mechanic reviews and repair with Major and Aj im 1years old can you do like your online about tool cart im struggling bc someone dope up then someone put a nasty spirit in me can you get all my info about Hanyes auto collision repair i learn how weld in a hour but I can learn Im trying to be mechanic welder and a collision repair technician at job Corps.can you tell me how long it takes to learn how all 3 I watch a video on breaks transmission box wrench I built 2 motors
This was by far the best video ever! Ive been so frustrated figuring out which one i wanted but after watching this, i found my choice...42" it is! Wish it came in purple though
Awesome! Glad my video helped! Congrats on the new toolbox!
Looking for a toolbox as a DIY guy this was exactly what I wanted to see, subscribed and Thanks 👍
Thanks for subscribing!
Really enjoying your build videos!!! Keep up the good work!!
I’m really glad you are enjoying the build! Thanks for watching!
Nice work man! I don’t think people realize just how long doing these repairs take. Keep it up!
Thanks! It’s so much work but it will be worth it in the end!
i do believe that the factory tolerance for out of square is around a 1/4 inch
Heck yeah! Well within spec! Thanks for sharing.
When it's done it will look right and the cab won't care if you had to weld small patches together. Good job.
Thanks for watching! I appreciate the support!
Looking good, loving this build!
Thanks for watching, I’m glad you are enjoying it!
Impressive what a guy can accomplish with a small metal brake and a couple HF Chinesium power tools. Glad you’re feeling better. 👍🏻
Thanks brother! Where there's a will there's a way! No fancy tools necessary!
You're really making great progress! Weird question, do you know of any other channels similar to yours?
Just liking and subscribing to this channel will key the TH-cam algorithm to recommend similar channels to you.
Great question! I will say the bigger channels that I got my inspiration from to actually start making videos were DD Speed Shop and Puddin's Fab Shop. A couple other "smaller" channels that I've come to enjoy are Best Damn Shop Around and Daily Driven Death Traps.
Damn, that modular feature is something no one is talking about. That is huge news. I was planning to do a stacked 4 drawer but now I want to sell those and look at that 27"
Have you done any mods to the 5 drawer mechanic cart?
Only mod I did to the 5 drawer was the latch mod so I don’t have to open the top to unlock the drawers. I’ve converted my 5 drawer cart to a welder cart now that I have the new toolboxes.
I walked in HF to waste some time, but a gray four drawer tool cart was assembled and on sale at $180! I love right around the corner so I bought it and wheeled it home
Congrats on the new cart!
Excellent video! Thank you! This is the video that Harbor Freight should have made. Would love to see a part two that includes some of the cabinets etc. Thanks again & well done.
Thanks so much! Glad you found the video helpful!
What is in that rattle can?
Good question. It’s copper weld-through primer. I was using a red zinc based weld-through primer but I gave this stuff a try and won’t be going back. The copper primer takes weld much better than zinc in my opinion.
That is what I thought. I find the zinc that I use scratches off very easily. Lately I have been using epoxy primer and it works well. @@CodyBuilds
5 drawer cart works well for me because I'm too old to bend down any farther and get tools from a bottom drawer 🤣
Didn’t even consider that as an advantage 😂
Great job! My Fridays are never complete without watching your video buddy!
Thanks brother! Glad you are enjoying the videos!
Color me impressed. You essentially built those rockers from scratch.
Thanks! Had to do it since you can’t buy them. I was happy with how they turned out.
Looking good Cody, keep up the great work!
Thanks for the support! I really appreciate it!
You make it look so easy. Great work!
The second side was much easier than the first!
A nice 1-1.5" thick piece of butcher block would make a great top. You can do an oil, acrylic, or poly finish.
That would work great! I ended up using 3/4” plywood and Formica to make my counter tops.
@CodyBuilds Good call.
Great video! I ended up getting the 42" roll cab in blue. Love it. I came from a 26" Husky box and the difference in quality is huge. Like and sub. 👍🏽
Glad you found the video helpful! Congrats on the new tool box!
I just did this repair on my highboy, do yourself a favor and hang the door before welding on the outer rocker. The gap on my rocker and door is off by an 1/4” or more and have to redo it 🤦🏻♂️
I ended up doing something similar to this. In my last video I installed all the panels, but rather than weld them all in first, I tacked everything in place, then installed the door to make sure everything was lining up properly. I ended up having to adjust the rocker attachment at the front of the door to take up a pretty big gap. Thanks for commenting!
That was completely fucking useless…..Cubic inches can be found on the website dipshit
I use the 5 drawer cart with the folding table.
