Thank you for this video. My kalanchoe was a gift a few years ago and I’m surprised at how much it’s grown. It’s so leggy but I had no idea how to prune it. Still uncertain about it and hope I don’t kill it when I get the courage to cut it back.

I'm curious how it looks 3 years later! I didn't know you could cut off basically all the foliage and have it come back with new leaves. I thought we had to retain some leaves for photo synthesis. I will definitely do this the next time. I brought a kalanchoe back to life recently but I basically just made a bunch of cuttings, rooted them all, then planted them all in the same pot. It looks super healthy now, but it doesn't have one large central stem anymore. I would have been nice to keep that, now that I know we can.

Thank you for this. One year ago right after my father passed and we sold the house I took this kind of plant. It was already a mess. Looked dead. Somehow this year I brought it back a bit but it's leggy as heck! I want to do this but I’m so scared of killing it completely. Is that an actual risk? I’m known as the one who doesn't have a green thumb at all. I don't want to kill his plant. 😢

This video has given me such a huge relief. I was worried mine was going to die, even though there are loads of flowers right now, but it’s very leggy. I took it on for my mum about 4 years ago, along with her orchids, because she got too disabled to look after them. It was going really well as it was almost dead before and I managed to revive it and it grew amazingly well but now it’s quite sparse around the tall stem. Plenty of green leaves on the top though, so it’s maybe healthier than I thought. I think it has the wrong soil though, so I’m going to repot it. My mum passed away 3 years ago and I want to make sure it thrives for many years as a living reminder of her.

I got one little one growing, its just one stem, but its leggy. I set it outside now. Do i cut off the top to get it to grow leaves at bottom?

Water works awesome if you are constantly checking, however, i find that if you have too many plants, 😂 i just stick in cococoir or cocopeat, dont water at all (just randomly mist or after a week do one good rain water) and forget about them for a while.. they do great! *keyword forget* 😂

Can you prune this plant while it is flowering? Mine has gotten so leggy and it looks awkward. I have a grow light for it now and want to prune but it's flowering so I'm hesitant to prune now. Thanks!

Hi! Great video! I’m excited to prune my Kalanchoe for the first time, but I’m having trouble too. It is leggy, but the leaves are also small and soft/supple. Not waxy like when I received it. The leaves are also starting to turn yellow. I think it’s getting too much sun, so I’ll move it, but the soft leaves began before the summer, any ideas as to what’s wrong? Lack of water? (It’s definitely not too much water)

Perfect! Totally what i needed. My kalenchoe is so tall! I saw some trimming/propagation videos that said to cut below leaves - though one of them pointed out those roots but didn't elaborate on them. I was wondering if i just tried cutting below those & planting it if it would work better...i really want to do as little damage as possible. I want to be a good mom 😢 Thank you for making this video!

Mine is soooo leggy. Like 6-8” of nothing leggy. So far anything I’ve broken off accidentally has rooted very quickly in soil without rooting powder even. I’m going to do this and see how it goes! I’m thinking of taking out the middle sections and planting them separate too… there’s enough little hairs everywhere I think it’ll work. Thanks for being brave and showing it’s okay to cut it down to nothing! I’m always nervous to hard prune.

I followed your video to cut back mine, and propagated the bits and pieces. Should they flower on their own or do you have to do anything? Also, it's been a few weeks and the props already started blooming new leaves, but the mama plant is taking a bit longer. Is this normal?

Do you recommend soaking the orchid bark before hand?

I found the video helpful, and just what I needed this morning before I do my own pruning, but I hope in the couple of years since you posted you've discarded the most annoying interjection of 'um' every minute. Other than that, a pretty good video.

Do you have to dry out the ends before you put them in soil? I have about 10 beautiful cuttings in water for about a month and no roots yet.

I know you probably know what your doing but I don’t think I’m brave enough to prune mine so dramatically.
