Steal Student Sentences
มุมมอง 414 หลายเดือนก่อน
Every opportunity I get, I steal from my students. By having their peers' work on the wall for them to emulate, not only do they get a positive example but they get to learn from each other. Let's build that community of writers! Find me on IG @whimsyandrigor

How to Stop Plagiarism in Your Classroom
มุมมอง 756 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is the easiest way to stop students from plagiarizing in your middle or high school classroom. Actually, it is so easy, even upper elementary students can use it. If you have ever struggled with getting students to understand why changing 1 or 2 words is not an actual paraphrase, this strategy is what you need to share with your students. This super simple method can be used tomorrow. Seri...
How to Get Students to Actually Discuss Big Ideas
มุมมอง 866 หลายเดือนก่อน
Getting middle school and high school students to actually talk AND listen to each other during classroom discussion is so important but also so difficult. I created a concrete way to get kids talking (and listening!). This strategy for classroom discussions never fails! Find me on IG @whimsyandrigor

Top Books from an English Teacher

Sometimes you have a TBR (to be read) pile that is a mile high and sometimes you are in a serious drought. In either case, here are three of my favorite books I recently read. This Way Madness Lies for all you Shakespeare fans who want it in a modern format. (I.e. text message between all of Juliet and Romeo's HS classmates?!) This is Our Rainbow short story collect that feature queer character...

มุมมอง 257 หลายเดือนก่อน
How annoying is it when the teacher gives directions and then 5 hands immediately shoot in the air when it is time to work. This video walks you through a simple solution to kids who raise their hands before thinking through the problem on their own. It's called the Magic Minute and it truly is magical. This strategy was developed for use in middle and high school classrooms but can work for el...

Write a Novel in 30 Days
มุมมอง 788 หลายเดือนก่อน
This outrageous goal is totally possible! With a little guidance, structure, encouragement, and a lot of determination, you can write a full-fledged novel. My middle school students write 6,000 word novels in 30 days. As their very clever teacher, I sneak in all sorts of grammar lessons along the way and because they are actually invested in their writing, they actually care about learning how ...

On the spreadsheet where I took all of the notes, I make extra room at the bottom of every row, print them out, cut them into strips, and students glue them into their notebooks so they can refer back to them every time we have a discussion. It’s worked out so efficiently that I actually give them the feedback the next day! Let me know if that helps!

Where did you get the giant sticky notes?

My school ordered them for me, but I just searched up “giant, sticky notes” and a bunch of options popped up. I have also seen them in the store at Office Depot.

I think they are just from Office Depot. They usually come in a two pack and are incredible!

Hi Krista! When you give the students their feedback, are you printing our your notes and giving them the row with their name? Writing it on a sticky note? I love class discussions but giving students timely feedback is something I struggle with. Thanks!
