Expensive stuff.
Would one of these work on a lead pipe?
This is not something it has been tested on, but essentially it will seal on the inside of any 57mm hole provided the back plate is of a similar profile as the pipe it's fitting to.
@@mcalpineplumb I have just finished the job with the 4" lead pipe and the mechanical boss, and can confirm that it works.
They make the best plastic traps etc on the market . And they don’t leak
too huge, requires to have minimum distance from the floor, The alternative is cheap and relayeble and much more simpler then that. That also have a cleaning option. what you fail to learn that a vacuum clean even the one we all have at home will work as a charm to clean all pipes and blockegges. Is ok if you do it and clean up the vacum. Dont such too much water but it will work . Trust me I am a scientist:))
I forgot to say how bad the caps are.. after 1 year.
is this the same as a water softner?
No, Scale Defender seals the Calcium and Magnesium so that Scale cannot form. A water softener removes this, the human body needs both these elements. Also a water softener uses electricity, Scale Defender does not. And a water softener uses Salt and gallons of water to flush and regenerate itself, Scale Defender only treats the water you use.
What he didnt show you was how bulky it is inside the soil stack with possible issues of build of products such as loo paper effluent if it's fitted below the soil appliances. It also doesn't take into account the build up of scale etc inside the soil pipe so when tightening up the boss pipe and that internal isn't really clean uou could end up with it leaking! With a standard glued boss pipe their is no intrusion inside the soil pipe itself so no risk of snagging of loo paper etc. In cases say in high use flats where water is constantly being discharged down the stack then its a good solution .
That non return valve once its gummed up with hair & products etc becomes useless and rhen bexomes non operative as most customers have no idea hiw to maintain and clean them out. Does that trap have a 2.5° gradient or is it a horizontal outlet. Most shower traps struggle to clear properly especially if its served by an electric shower with poor flow rate add to that when shiwer gel foams up so then the waste pipe hardly ever runs full bore to clean it , as it would with a bath flowing fullbore when emptying ! Thats when you get the build up of hair and product's. So its ok having a trap that allows for minimal depth especially on solid floors and low profile trays. Alot of plumbers have no idea about self siphonage or induced siphonage they just fit whatever will fit in ! Esoecially in flats where tbe traps require a deep seal to overcome being pulled by other appliances above or below . The ending result being smell emanating into the bathroom. Now in an ideal world that trap you showed would be great but in the ream world not necessarily so wspecially in student accomodation where they dont gjve a rats back side and it just gets left !! Hair and products are tbe bane of any shower trap or bath trap come to that really. Sort that out youre onto a winner !
Thanks for your detailed feedback. We certainly cannot disagree, hair and cleaning products are more often than not the cause of a lot of waste issues, that’s why all our traps are designed with servicing in mind.
What about 50 mm / 2inch fittings?
Not in MINIFLEX yet, but the FLEXCON7 and FLEXCON8 are both 2” flexible options.
If I use mactun 2, still I will still have to have 30 mm lenght D2 pipe before 🎉the first brand or not because it increases from 22 to 32mm? And if so where would start measuring from. Will the the centimeters of the non rerurn valve count for the 300mm it matters to me as I can't go to much down
This would be covered by G3 regulations and would need to be checked with the relevant governing body.
you messed up, the boss should not be flush with the back line of the pan connector. the screw ring will hit against the wall behind
You demonstrated the “competitor’s” product failed but not that yours would have passed.
I saw this from a previous video. It's kind of stupid! I can't find anyplace that sells one here in the USA. Nothing on Amazon, one on Ebay, for +$20 cost & +25 Shipping.
You didn't mention the built in 5 degrees fall in the waste pipe inlet and for this reason you need to look for the 'Top' marking to install the boss the correct way up. Great vid otherwise. 👍
Very good eye for detail and you are 100% correct.
Can do this for half the price of your kit , no problem
Really?
Yes! 😃
Just got this and will fit in a bit. Seems very well made. Mine was quite tight adjusting the 40mm out direction but was more confident turning it once I saw it definitely turns.
I wish the top was all brass too 🫤
Mcalpine best products out there 👌👌
So what’s the answer or are you just spouting figures, Wouldn’t happen in a Fred video.
How much water pressure do you lose after installing one❓❓❓
The only temporary pressure drop occurs when the check valve opens, which is a mere 0.3 bar for less than a second.
@@mcalpineplumb 1/4 of a bar 🫤
Would installing one reduce the mains pressure to the property ❓
There's no pressure loss. The only temporary pressure loss is 0,3 bar to open the check valve which is only less than one second.
How much do you lose on your water pressure after installing one ❓
The Scale Defender has a minimum operating pressure of 0.3 bar
Does these drain doesn’t need a P trap ? That’s the idea right? To eliminate the P trap? I’m I right ?
That’s correct with this particular version - the Nonreturn valve eliminates the need for the Water Seal in stopping smells coming back into the room.
Do you make a DC1-BL type fitting for 95mm ish cast iron?
We do not but you could use a MAC-EXTB which will get you from your cast then use a DC1-BL into that. Failing that you would need to look at something like a Fernco coupling which we don’t manufacture.
Lasted a week then stopped sealing.
Please DM us your address and we will send you a replacement ASAP
The appliance trap seems to leak any advice?
Specifically washing machine. I have add the blanking and drilled a hole to prevent leaking but surprised no rubber seal came with this
Here are the installation instructions: bit.ly/3JtM5OK There should be no requirement for a washer on the Nozzle due to the conical manufacturing of the part but if you would like to DM us with a video we may spot something.
Who tests this rubbish?
How can I ghet it; Jubilee clip.
If you are looking for a spare Jubilee Clip, this link will sort you out: www.plumbers-mate-sales.co.uk/jubilee-clip-304-stainless-steel-90mm-120mm---30000728-6817-p.asp If you are asking how to get to it to tighten, we would always recommend using a 7mm Flexible shaft Jubilee screw driver.
Seriously extensive product range & a super convenient bit of kit, BUT, I'm still sceptical about flexible pan connectors in particular. Like he says, they are usually in a concealed area - I've heard some horror stories, particularly re. rats, but it's also going to be subjected to a variety of chemical products over the years e.g. sodium hydroxide. A product that thin & flexible just can't be as robust and have the same longevity as rigid connectors? I'm happy to be told I'm wrong in this thinking......
Hi, thanks for your question. We're primarily a trade manufacturer so it's really down to the tradesman’s preference. Rats can be an issue for Flexible WC Connectors of that there is no doubt, but they can be equally as destructive to Rigid connectors as they can be to Flexibles. We manufacture the ARB-1 to try and mitigate this risk. Regarding chemicals our Flex is manufactured from Polypropylene which is extremely resilient to chemicals and should cope with anything your average household would throw down a WC. Regarding the robustness, we give a 10 year Guarantee on our Flexible WC Connectors which is market leading, and we have many out in the real world that outlast that guarantee with absolutely no issues.

Hi I have just bought a ST90 CB10-70 at great expense but it has NO diaphragm valve just a flat bottom removal cup that acts as the water seal. I feel cheated ....Please explain Thanks
The ST90CB10-70 is a standard Waterseal trap, we offer a range of Traps for all types of installation. The trap with the NRV is the ST90CP10-NRV - mcalpineplumbing.com/traps/shower-traps-accessories/90mm-shower-trap-with-non-return-valve/ Apologies for the misunderstanding.
What do they look like ❓

How do you know what size blanking cap you need?
Is it normal to drop water through there?
They are shit It’s come away after 2 years
Thanks for this extremely helpful video 👍 I’ve got one and think there amazing 👌👌
insightful video. appreciated.
Do you do a 50mm boss?
Please be aware (as McAlpine don't tell you!) the 50mm connector has an internal diameter of (circa) 40mm - so there is a restriction on flow rate through the 50mm pipe to stack!
It leaks at maintainance opening . waste being the operative WORD!
