    Thanks for this. I wish I'd seen it yesterday. I had my wheel off yesterday to reinstall a wheel sensor that came installed on the bike when I got it after replacing the battery. It needs to be mounted on the non-drive side so I was working through the holes in the rotor. It was aggravating. It would have been a lot easier if I could have removed the rotor. When I saw the lock ring, I thought, "Oh, heck. I need a special lock ring tool to take that off." It never occurred to me that the bottom bracket tool I already owned would do the job (Duh!). I just checked, and the BB tool is the same one needed for the lock ring. When I have to replace the battery in the sensor next time, or need to replace a rotor, it'll be helpful to know I already have the tool I need. Thanks for saving me from looking for, and potentially buying, a tool I don't need.

    I tried fitting this to my Trek DS 2 but didn't fit for a variety of reasons. The fork stays are too far back, the top of the fork is the wrong shape for the ties and the wrong shape to fit the guard into. Ended up throwing it in the bin. Total waste of money.

    • @JakeBrookesBiking

    • @vincentcausey8498

      @@JakeBrookesBiking The forks on the DS 2 gen 5 are not suspension forks but more like road bike forks, so a lot narrower than the suspension forks. I now have the problem that mountain bike guards are too wide to fit the forks, but my tyres are too wide for road bike guards. Catch 22.

  • @sfkendrick
    @sfkendrick 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks for this review. Do you take the guard off during dry seasons or do you keep it on year round? If you take it off occasionally, is it a bother? Just curious. I got it yesterday. It seems a bit overkill for most of what I ride but will be really nice in the spring mud season.

    • @JakeBrookesBiking
      @JakeBrookesBiking 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sfkendrick Hello 👋 It’s not a bother to remove it but it doesn’t weigh much and it doesn’t get in the way of anything, so I usually just leave it on 😊 However if I knew the trails were dry to the point where the rear ProGuard becomes useless, then I would probably remove it. A lot of the trails I ride though are often wet or they have a few wet sections. So it usually just stays on the bike 😊 I hope this helps.

    How do you know the torque setting using that tool, until it stops and a tad more? I have the external bb tool but was wondering if i need a socket tool to fit to torque wrench. Appreciate this as i was worried my bb tool would rip the teeth.

    • @JakeBrookesBiking
      @JakeBrookesBiking 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, Ideally this needs to be torqued using a torque wrench which I would recommend - however I personally have gone until it’s tight using the tool, and then a few more clicks. There is no need to go super super tight. I have had no issues with stripping teeth or things coming loose. I hope this helps 😊

    So difficult for the rear...I love the RRP Extender or the long Standard.....BUT a.) I dont know...if you load and unload your suspension the guard will rub within the lower bar...so the best would be to mount something on the lower bar b.) If that is not the case somehow...it would be okay...if it would "click in" somewhere or "bolt on" ...sadly this is probably hard to achieve. I would premount something that you barely see, so that you can quickly get rid of the mudguard... c.) To also get a bikers protection, you simply cannot go around those long mudguards. Unleazhed has the most stable one, the sks mudrocke is decent and has a extension into the lower parts as well (not long enough in my case) and the mucky nutz have an unstable thingy, but a good way to extend on a short one into that long mudguard (which is the only thing that saves your ass) God, I wish there would be quick mounts neatly hidden and you can click in whatever you see fit...a shorty for the linkage and for looks or the crazy long one. Perhaps it would need to be mounted on both lower and higher bars and can move into each other or something. :) I simply cannot stand all the zipties or velcro strips.... :)

    • @JakeBrookesBiking
      @JakeBrookesBiking 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, thank you for sharing this 😊 A neat hidden clip or bolt on attachment, like what can be found on forks would be great! However there are so many different seat stay and chain stay configurations it would just be too difficult for manufacturers to do. Personally I am not a fan of cable ties and Velcro on my bike, but with the rear ProGuard I don’t mind. It does such a good job and for me, it’s certainly worth it 😊

    • @MrStubbs8157
      @MrStubbs8157 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @JakeBrookesBiking all true. Lets see what the future bringst but yeah..at least the mount would also be some sort of cable tie, or something. You probably cant avoid it somewhere along the line.

    Does adding a spacer effect the max psi allowed, or does it change the max rider weight limit? I am 335 and am looking to add spacers. For a rider of 250 the manual suggests 113 psi, with a max 120 psi. Since I exceed that, how many spacers should I add, and what psi should I run?

    • @JakeBrookesBiking
      @JakeBrookesBiking 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mebeadamb Hello 👋 To my knowledge - no, adding volume spacers does not change the max rider weight limit or max shock pressure. For now try to get the correct sag measurement. I would start with 115/117 psi and see what the sag measurement is. From there you can add a little pressure or reduce it to achieve the sag measurement you want 😊 Once you are happy with the sag, ride the bike and see how it feels. If you are going through the suspension travel too easily or bottoming out, then add some volume spacers 😊 I would not recommend going over the max shock pressure or the max amount of volume spacers. I hope this answers your question and helps. If you have any more questions please ask away 😊

    "Make sure to tighten them to the correct setting" -> proceeds to use a normal wrench xD classic mechanic

    Is there any oil that leaks out, or the need to add extra?

    Very useful, thanks Jake. Is that a Fox 38 Factory you have, and did you use the shim to raise the front of the mudguard?

      Thank you for feedback 😊 I have a fox 36 and I don’t think I used any shims in the end. It seemed to work perfectly on its own 😊

    The sound is air in the oil on the top side if the IFP piston.

    I need a bit of help. Can you confirm something for me, please? I got a new eMTB. It came with the 160 mm Fox Float X. It came with a 0.9 volume spacer in the rear shock. I weigh 270 lbs at the moment, but I feel I can't get my sag set to 30%. The PSI is maxing out at the same as my weight, 270 PSI. With the 0.9 spacer inserted, I am about 35% to 40% sag. I could do with at least another 20 PSI to bring the shock to sag. From my understanding of the loss of max PSI in the EVOL can with adding spacers, if I remove it and put in a 0.6 or 0.7, I should, in theory, be able to get the extra PSI I need?

      @@Emtbtoday Hello, sorry about my slow reply… Ideally volume spacers should be left until sag is set correctly and the bike has been ridden to see how it feels and how progressive or linear it is. However I understand your issue, I would say give it a go and see what you find 😊 As long as you do not go over the max pressure for your shock then you shouldn’t have any issues. Just be aware that reducing the volume spacers size will make the bike more linear and easier to bottom out. On the other hand adding a volume spacer or increasing the volume spacers size will increase how progressive your bike is. If your running a large amount of sag - this will certainly help to reduce bottom outs I would personally start by trying a slightly larger volume spacer, go back to your max pressure and see where you sit with sag 😊 I’m sorry I can’t give you a definitive answer but hopefully the info above is helpful.

    My ringlock got bent when i fell. Is there any rung locks compadable with this? I cant get the original one where i live

      Ohh no, unfortunately to my knowledge the only lock ring tool I know that will work, is the Ethirteen lock ring tool. Is there no way of possibly straightening the lockring tool you have bent in a vice?

    Interesting I just fitted the new enduro one's and can't get them to stay on my new emtb! Pedal forward they unscrew and fall off its a brand new bike and brand new Pedals had to dig the left out my shin yesterday when happened again! Just wondering if this was the right way round or if they should tighten when pedalling like my old bike's? Sound pretty stupid asking this it does have the R and L stamped on them and on correct it's not the spindle unscrewing it's the actual Pedal from crank arms!?

    • @JakeBrookesBiking
      @JakeBrookesBiking 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello 😊 The left pedal will not go into the right crank arm and the right pedal should not go into the left crank arm as the threads are opposite. They do need a nip to stay in place. I can’t see why they would come loose if they are nipped tight… it might be worth tightening them up a little more or maybe using some loctite, however this isn’t usually needed 😊 How are the bearings? Are they a little stiff? I hope this helps 😊
