Getting The BF XR6 From Pickles Salvage Auction Registered And Back On The Road
The XR6 is now registered and back in the road. After a hiccup with the sump seal which we finally got sorted and a leaky high pressure power steering hose, the car went back to the mechanic and passed its final mechanical inspection. Over the last week I also changed the diff bushes and had some tyres fitted and balanced on the front which got rid of the shaky steering. Good this is the car is back on the road.

After being unable to work on the car for over a week dues to having the flu, I finally got the car down to the mechanic for its first inspection to be re-registered. Luckily the car only need a few things done, some larger than others but nothing that I shouldn’t be able to do at home in the shed. Now to get the list of jobs ticked off and get the old bus back on the road.

    I have a 2006 Shockwave Blue RTV that had that paint problem and ended up being resprayed by Ford at their expense 7 years after it was made (I bought it secondhand in 2010 and the paint came off in 2012/13 from memory). It is a known problem with that colour and they resprayed on a case by case basis I believe if a claim was put to them. TBH this XR6 is a lot better than my car was back in 2012/13! However it will probably be an ongoing issue unfortunately. Very helpful how to DIY videos by the way.

      Hey mate, I think it’s to do with the pair not adhering to the primer for whatever reason so the only real way to fix it for good would be to get the whole thing back to bare metal and start again. This one has been resprayed as well and just like yours did, it’s starting to flake off again I’m certain parts. It’s such a shame because it’s a really nice color. Cheers for the feedback too mate, much appreciated. 👍🏼

With the aerpro unit there is a wire in the harness that comes with it to power the reverse camera so no need to connect to a reverse light. I could be wrong but from memory it was a purple wire. So you should be able to connect one end of that red reverse camera wire to that purple wire, and connect the other end of the red wire to the reverse camera power wire. Don’t forget that behind the stereo where you connect the purple wire to the red, you’ll also need to connect those two wires to the reverse camera trigger wire on the stereo. Hope that helps mate.

      @@jasonswift7098 Hey mate, yep this one was from Bibra Lake. They used to let people go and view the cars prior to the auction but since Covid they stopped doing that and you can only go off what you can see in the photos so it can be hit or miss when you purchase from there. They do have a small description of the damage and wether the car is a repairable write off or not. For ease of relicensing you preferably want the car to be WOVR/NA which means the car is not registered as ever been in an accident and are generally a lot easier to get back on the road. As for picking up the car, you can take a trailer just as I did but the car must be loaded by the forklifts on site. You’re not allowed to winch or even drive the cars on to the trailer, even if they do run. Hope that helps mate.

So even if the car runs and can drive you're not allowed to drive it onto a trailer?

And no, you can’t drive them onto a trailer… even if it runs. Cheers mate. Between driving this car and driving another BF I have which doesn’t have the deadening, there is definitely a noticeable difference. It might sound strange but it’s like an overall difference. It’s gotten rid of a lot of rattling and road noise from the doors which is especially noticeable when you close them. It is definitely quieter on the inside especially from the roof when it rains and it kind of gives a more premium feel to the inside. Honestly it just feels nicer overall and with the front doors done it makes the whole car feel solid. That’s the best way I can explain it. If you’re planning on keeping the car I’d definitely recommend doing it for sure. Cheers

I want to get some new ceramic tint this summer which should help even more. As for the doors and parcel shelf, I've only done the one layer of deadening and with my stereo turned up a bit I still seem to be getting some rattling from behind the door cards so I'm going to have to revisit those areas and possibly add some foam as well. Hi just wondering if you used an Aerpro ISO wiring harness for this job? If so what is the part number? Also did you need a steering control adapter? I'm about to replace my icc head unit with a aerpro fascia kit and a atoto s8 ultra. Just can't seem to find the correct wiring harness. Cheers.

    • @Jeenzy79
      @Jeenzy79 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cuzman140670 Hey mate, nice one… I’ve only seen good things about the Atoto units. If you’re getting the Aerpro fascia kit new, everything you need to get it all working comes included with the kit. No adapter is needed for the steering wheel controls, there is a universal harness that comes in the kit, you just need to connect 2 or 3 wires from that harness to the headunit and the steering wheels controls will work. As for the ISO harness… the wiring that comes with the fascia comes with the female ISO plug… I assume the Atoto unit you’re going to use is new? So it should come with the male ISO to plug straight in. If you check out one of my other videos I went into a bit more detail with the wiring as I’ve since changed the headunit I used in this video. I've just dropped the diff on a sz territory to do the bushes. About to jack the diff back up and bolt it on. I heard I need to align the diff cradle with dowels or aligning some holes? How do you go about aligning the diff when putting it back on? Also with the front rear diff bushes in I have a 5mil clearance from the diff mount for the bush and the cradle, is that enough clearance? Cheers..

    • @Jeenzy79
      @Jeenzy79 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@michaelkong2682 Hey mate, yup 5mm should be enough clearance on the front bolts. A lot of people just put them in flush but if you look at the support arm that hold the diff to the cradle (the arm that the front diff bush bolts to) it can actually rub or hit on the cradle itself when the car is under load. That’s why you need to have the bushes sit beyond flush like you’ve done… it will give the support arms clearance from the cradle itself if that makes sense. As for lifting up the cradle when putting it back in, the very top plate has a big hole on either side, and if you look underneath the body of the car where the cradle goes back in there is a corresponding hole on the body. All I do is get the cradle up under the car and get the 4 main big nuts in to hold it in place and as it’s hanging there you just need to line the holes on the top plate of the cradle up to the holes in the body as you’re doing up the nuts. A lot of the time they will line up perfectly by themselves, sometimes they’re off just a smidge but with the bolts and nuts still loose it’s really easy to line it all up again. Hope that makes sense mate. If you’ve already got the new bushes in the hard part is done. Hope that helps. Good luck with it mate.
