I understand that Dragon Age usually has decisions like this in previous games, but being 7 hours into a game and having to decide which city gets destroyed was like bro you can’t be serious 💀 I haven’t even gotten to explore them properly

@@mashietrash I feel like this was a pretty mass effect thing to do (the only other bioware game i've played) so I'm not surprised that it happened BUT I am surprised that it came up before you really got attached to either one of the cities which would have made a tough decision to choose.

@ Yeah I’m shook at how early it happened? I’ve played other BioWare games. I expected to have to make tough decisions but it’s not really a tough decision when I’ve spent 15 minutes in either city.

which side quest specifically? most of the side quests are just triggered by talking to random people.

I’m having fun with it for content purposes because of how silly it is. I’ll say this about Veilguard. The combat is super fun. The dialogue makes you think ChatGPT and a 5 year old collaborated to write the game lol

@@mashietrash There's more to it than just that. Starting from Dragon Age: Origins all the way to Inquisition every choice you made as the player mattered and had a large impact for each of these games. If you decided to sacrifice someone in Origins they'd be remembered in the later games "hey remember what happened to Steve? Yeah those were wild times". Even the smallest of choices would lead to something much bigger down the road which was the games biggest selling point only for all of your choices to be scrapped entirely come veilguard no matter how integral or important they were to the lore. We went from a game series where the blight was this big focus point that was ravaging the lands with monsters while people were being kidnapped and turned into monsters to further spread the blight to a game talking about feelings and watching as your party members who should be at each others throats due to their differences instead want to be nice. In Origins you could have people insult you or even insult them back but in veilguard it's all sunshine and positivity. As the game stands if this was something entirely new it's just an average RPG that in all honesty doesn't give off "wow this looks amazing" vibes but since it's tied to a highly beloved name going all the way back to 2009 it's more like a slap in the face and shows that those in charge don't have the same creative respect for the older games. Which given it's poor sales and lack of a audience on steam which many can see it has caused concern for Mass Effect fans seeing how the same team behind Veilguard will be working on that next.

I’ve actually been having a very strange issue with the game where the dialogues during the downtimes glitch and will play the same bit of audio 3-5 times in a row before cutting out. So that might be why I’m missing some context 😅

I appreciate the genuine insight on the game! That’s the type of stuff I enjoy reading a lot from fans of the series itself. I’ve never played any others so for me, it’s just like: okay, this combat is really freaking fun and the dialogue is super awkward at times but I know nothing else about this game relative to Dragon Age as a whole so I don’t have an opinion. Ohh, like they retconned stuff? I could see that annoying people. There are a few franchises I really love where I'd be upset if they retconned things. Like if the future Cyberpunk game retcons stuff from 2077, I'd be pretty upset because the lore/story was super cool. And yes! I have to be nice to Harding! One of the other regulars around here requested I be nice to her, and I'm trying to respect the community's wishes LMAO

I didn't really notice that and I played all previous games (admitedly, a long time ago). Felt more like they added/specifed more things about the lore but I didn't think it ruined anything about what we already knew. But yeah, people are picky about these things

There is some retconning naturally, but for people who played the games, I think most of it is an illusion. In the ten years since Inquisition, there has been a ton of literature written about Thedas by Bioware writers and that's where Veilguard's Thedas comes from. After all, all of your companions and a lot of NPCs come from those sources. I've watched some streams and those who have read the books usually say that is where this character or that was introduced and it all makes sense.

I swear I'd never learn 90% of the game mechanics for the most menial stuff (like fast travel) if it wasn't for you guys, and I'm not kidding lmao. I'm very curious how it plays into the Dragon Age franchise as a whole now, honestly. Because apart from the story being really uninspired and at times infuriatingly empty, it's a good ARPG for the most part. I mean, it comes behind Dragons Dogma 2 and Granblue Fantasy: Relink for ARPG's I played this year, due to just being flat out worse in most regards... but I've always imagined the hate level had to do with it being part of this specific IP.

As a Dragon Age game it’s not great. As a game on its own it’s pretty good. I’ve played them all up to now and although the weakest of the series it’s still a solid 7.
