One of the best FJ builds around. Awesome!!!
Great video and some excellent ideas. Did you have the bedding platform and legs made for you or did you buy them somewhere and do it yourself? I want to run the same thing in my FJ.
Thanks heaps! I designed and built the bed platform. The legs are table legs from a local hardware store. Hope that helps!
Did you need to get a mod plate for the rear seat delete?
Technically the seats haven’t been deleted, the seat backs and seatbelts are still in place, just folded down. The seat bases have been removed, but the whole thing can be reverted. Have never had an issue passing rego with the platform in place.
Hi Mark. Dont suppose you have a link for the 350w solar panels youve purchased? and, do you have any specs on the actual, real out put of your panels to share? Looking to buy for my FJ this summer :P
Hi there, I tried to find a link, but wasn’t able to find them as we purchased a few years ago. From the 4 panels, we have been able to get a pretty consistent 45amps out of them in the sun. If you are buying for the FJ, my advice would be to go for some higher voltage panels and a Victron MPPT controller.
I just purchased an FJ and love you setup. Just out of curiosity, do you have a loft? And what size tires do you have?
Thanks for watching! The car has a 2” OME lift kit in it, the tires are the stock size (I think they are 31” and the tires are Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T’s
Good Job !
Hey dude wat bed platform do you have
This is a platform I designed and built myself. The front section can be removed if needed to return it to a 5 seater.
@BakedInMyCar thanks for the response would you have the plans for this design
@camkaze2 any plans are long gone unfortunately, but I do have plenty of photos. If you send me a dm on instagram @bakedinmycar id be happy to answer questions
Hey there brother, I was wondering if you had a sketch of your platform build with measurements. My ten year old son and I are going to be taking the cruiser around the U.S. after Halloween. Thanks mate
Pretty cool. I couldn’t do it, but cheers to you mate.
Not much wasted space, well done
Amazing setup! Nothing over and just what you need - love it!
Cool. I like your videos mark
Thanks heaps!
Looks so good!!
i will be trying this one for sure, how many people does it feed ?
This fed 5 of us easily. With a working oven, this would have been mint!
welcome back
The best set up I have seen so far..... Love it❤❤❤❤
Are the back seats removed or are they just laid down flat?
The seat bases are removed, but the backs are laid down flat. The reason for this is so that the front section of the drawer can be removed and the seats replaced easily.
whats the screen you used to turn on the inverter and hows it setup? thank you
The screen is a raspberry pi running VenusOS connected to all of the Victron equipment. All of the Victron devices connect together using VE.Direct. I am thinking about making a video about how it is all set up at some point.
@@BakedInMyCar that would be awesome! id love to make one but ive never played around with a raspberry pi before, does the screen use much battery to run?
You can also buy a readymade unit from Victron, but it is more expensive. The pi doesn’t draw much at all, along with the WiFi network running in the car, the whole setup uses about 0.6amps an hour.
👍awesome 👍
Ok, I'm buying one for the FJ Mark :D You using your starter battery as well?
Let us know how it goes! The DCS lithium bank replaces the starter and Aux battery with one bank. So technically I am using the starter!
Haha I literally just unpacked it and you replied. Trying to figure out how to turn it off...
@2adventure_oz921 it seems to stay in a flashing standby mode as it cools down. It will only draw power while there is a pan on it.
Ah cheers, Google translate didn't help much lol
Awesome mark I was worried for a few moments that you’d ditched your oven.
Wouldn’t dream of it! The last few videos haven’t been as oven centric as I’ve been playing with inverters and appliances, but the oven still gets its fair share of use!
nice work. The toaster ? was that off the inverter or a 12 volt one ? I have just got an induction cook top bit not used it in the car yet.
Thanks heaps! The toaster is also off the inverter, so that factored into the power usage.
How thick is the glass? I’m thinking about tackling this myself.
The glass we used was 6mm. Good luck!
Amazing ❤
How many miles do you have on that thing? I have an 07 w 140k.
It has around 240,000km on it at the moment, still going strong!
Had mine done. It’s a weak link of the boat but it’s so nice not having it leak anymore.
Tater tots (as we call them in the US), yum
Another great recipe. You do some great simple recipes that look tasty 👍
Thanks! That’s what it’s all about 😁
Nice. But brother, cold drip or cold brew would be mint in this recipe. Good to see you back and hope you are keeping well.
Thanks for watching and for the heads up about cold brew! I’ve never explored cold brew, any tips to get me started?
look up hario cold brew 1L. Difference with cold brew, great for camping as no power required and the coffee is less bitter and smoother. There are multiple ways of doing it (cold drip such as the dripster) but you wont regret it. @@BakedInMyCar
and the rest can go in the fridge for iced coffees.
I’ll check it out! That sounds great 👌🏼 thanks for the tips!
I have a glind heat exchanger in my FJ Mark. Fits under the bonnet easily, more space inside and hot water instantly after driving or in a two or three minutes from cold. Highly recommend for hot showers 👌🏻
My dad has the same glind setup in his FJ, it’s a great idea and something I would love to look into in the future. I would probably have gone this option, had I not won the geyser systems in a raffle. Sounds like you have your FJ setup dialed in!
Yeah it's pretty well setup, just "need" to get more lithium 😂
How has the lithium batteries been working in the engine bay as I hear they don't like being in the engine bay
They have been mostly fine. About 2 years 10 months into my warranty, one of the batteries had a BMS problem. never once was I left stranded, the car started even when I could tell something was wrong. I run a fridge and freezer 24/7 and drove about 70,000km with those batteries. DCS came to the party and covered it under warranty, replaced both batteries and gave me the chance to a newer higher capacity model. So overall pretty happy.
How do you prevent moisture build up from sleeping?
I usually keep the back window open a few inches in the summer with fan circulating and during the winter I open the drivers and passengers windows a crack. Hasn’t been a huge issue in the 4 years I’ve had the bed setup
Good job, thank you for your time and advise. I will be performing the same task on my Beneteau 393 in a few months. Do you think a heat gun would have been a better solution in removing the old skylight?
Thanks! Let me know how you go. After the experience we had removing our skylight, I feel that a heat-gun would have been of little to no use (more than happy be proven wrong). Most of the original sealant had gone brittle and anything you see in the video that is still flexible is most likely remnants of other repairs. Please keep us updated on how you go with your 393!
Dude. That setup is nice!!!!!! I'm thinnking about getting an FJ Cruiser. Seeng the possibilities on your rig really helps!
Thanks heaps! If you end up getting one, make sure to share what you end up doing with it!
Wow man this actually made me change my mind about getting a rooftop tent. This seams WAY more cozy. I mean you even have a fridge and as much storage as a truck camper haha. Really cool!
Glad I could help provide some inspiration!
I’ve also leaned away from the roof top tent, I think being inside is a lot more versatile
Thats a bad ass setup! 👍🏻
I love that setup
Nice build
Awesome setup man! I'm looking to expand my solar as well and was wondering how that slide out solar panel rack is built? I was wanting to mount something similar on top of my rack
Thanks heaps! If you want to see some pics of it as it goes together, feel free to send me a message on instagram @bakedinmycar
wow, nicely done, i like how everything is nice and neat. very much like my 2016 4runner trail. she's all decked out for overlandding and pretty much ready to go. like you, i too sleep in the back. keep up the good work and be safe out there.
Thanks heaps! I find having a place for everything really helps, otherwise when you go away everything gets messy as. That being said, it still can get a bit messy on a long trip away 😅
Awesomeness
You can car camp inside an FJ by using a hammock attached to the front roof rack and looped through the grab handle, with the other end of the hammock attached to the rear roof rack. Using each side and grab handle you can sleep two.
Wow, did not know that. Any pictures of it? Thanks
@@bradberry1083 I don’t have any pictures, but I could take some. My FJ is a bit of a mess right now. Did you want some pics?
Never even thought of doing that, nice solution!
@@desertpunk6705 I would also love to see pics of this! I sleep inside my FJ on a mattress, but this hamock idea sounds intriguing!
desde Chile, un abrazo grande y felicitaciones para replicar tu buen diseño!
Nice work mate. What's does it weigh with all the fruit?
Thanks mate! Last time I weighed it (full of camping gear with full water and fuel tank) it was 2460kg. So not too bad for an FJ.
@@BakedInMyCar yep, always a consideration in the FJ... but hey, we wouldn't want any other vehicle! 😁👍🍻
DCS are no good mate
The setup works for me and their after sales support has been stellar.
That's a mad setup, I particularly love that you've added a raspberry pi into the setup. Gold idea!
Great setup!
Never thought of cooking a cake. What beach were you on? I’m glad you’ve returned to TH-cam.
After we did the pavlova, we thought it was time to give a regular cake a crack! We were up at Hawks nest, camped at Stuart and Lloyd’s campground. A really nice little spot. Thanks for sticking around and watching, I’m aiming to try and start making videos more regularly. Life kinda got in the way over the last year 😅
another quick easy recipe. good stuff
Quick and easy is always my preferred way for food while camping, more time to enjoy the place im camped at 😊
Love the unexpected trip to the hospital! Also to cut the cake in half so much easier 😊
Was an unexpected detour, unfortunately it meant that dessert turned into morning tea 😅
