If you want a tip about rust removal, simply soak the metal overnight in plain, white vinegar, preferably lukewarm-ish. 25°C+ should be fine. Maybe not as fast as electrolysis, but definitely easier. Cheaper too, as you can reuse the vinegar several times.

I was a little worried about installing the blade after reading a couple of reviews. But it was amazingly easy. Took about 1 minute. Works great th-cam.com/users/postUgkxjpBI8OOeUXib_iT7UomCrQ-uauwZJ62c . Cuts easily and is perfect for pocket cuts I needed to make for replacing some old deck boards.

What did you use to replace the rivets and fasten the label onto the motor cover? Are they nails or something else?

I have the same model but the problem is I cannot tilt the angle cause the bolt rust is like welded to the pivot arm and the inner safety cover is wrongly positioned. mabe the previous owner made a DIY many many years ago.

This chain mortiser is unsurprisingly very similar in design to the Ryobi which folks may find hard to believe, especially in the U.S., is largely recognized as the best chain mortiser money can buy. Although Ryobi also produced a line of tools of higher quality than the economy based line the company is known for in North America it is still quite an impressive acheivment considering Mafell makes a chain mortiser as well.

You find some really amazing old Makita tools to restore. I would love to find a chainsaw mortiser to fix like this one!

Great Restoration and very thorough. After all that work, I am not sure I would backup the stock with a brick and have my blade spinning over top of what looks to be an electrical wire.....
