    That groove was deep enough...
    Somebody had been in there before you and not reassembled it properly...🇬🇧👍

    Liked the glitter paint. Easy mistake to make with groove. Would need new shaft really but I'm sure you'll get plenty of use out of it as it is. Well done

    I think you need a Lathe machine to properly groove the clip notch. The improvised drill and grinder is too inaccurate.
    I've seen other Toshiba drill restorations where they just stripped the paint, sanded the bare metal and just buffed it for a stainless chrome look. The green looks good there nonetheless.

      A lathe is necessary for the work.
