HI HOW ARE YOU ❤
I NEW CHANNEL WHERE DO YOU FIND A LOT BOOKS
HOW ARE YOU
Hi NICE TO MEET YOU
hi im from south africa and i have a bunch of old books and encyclopedia i want to sell anyone interested
Wow. I sure wish I would have seen this sooner!! I'm 62 years old now and I don't know much about the internet! This sure would have been a great help for me ! A Few years ago my mother passed away and in her house there was a lot of old collectibles. Lots of old cook books and some other books. Plus magazines anywhere from the 1930s to somewhere into the 90s I never thought that they might be worth money! Most of them are gone now but I keep a few of them from like the 70s and 80s Life magazines, Time and a couple Rolling Stones magazines back from the 70s. If anyone is interested in them please try to contact me somehow. Randy Dillingham
I have got an English bookshop here in France (suburbs) on the side of my teaching business. The city is small and although people love the idea, the foot traffic was slow so I decided to limit the opening hours to only 2 options when we don't have lessons. I tried e-bay for 10 months, had 6 orders so I decided to leave. Started Vinted month and half ago and sales are through the roof so I will be definitely concentrating on that.
Excellent glad to hear. I wish you the best! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for the helpful thoughts Phil. I was thinking about this a few days ago; Would you consider a Q&A livestream that focuses on this subject? You've answered many questions in your past videos, but I imagine there are many more questions that I haven't even considered and you haven't covered yet. (Maybe you will in your part 3) I find it so helpful to sit at a table with a "meeting of the minds" to throw ideas around and hear off the cuff discussions. In this case a "virtual table" would work perfectly if scheduled with enough notice, and the chat would allow that. Just a thought. I'd sure find it invaluable. Thank you again!
I like the idea, almost did it with a couple people but the tough thing is I can't stay as consistent as I would like to be with doing things like that. At least not now. Maybe in the future if I'm able to carve out some time.
yoooo your last name sounds so mafia hahah. i don’t know many italians i dig it!
👍
I, for one, I wouldn't become a break dancer--I'm not one--obviously to prove to anyone that I can dance. I became a book seller because I love being surrounded by them. You don't necessarily have to read everything that you plan to sell. But you need to have enough knowledge to know what sell. If you're starting out, I would advise any aspiring bookseller to visit bookstores and study what they're displaying as their best sellers. That's just one method of many. Learn as you go. If you're going to pay the bills with the income made from book sales--don't rely on taking breaks. This is not a business/job where you're looking forward to a two week yearly vacation. If you're lazy, hate lifting, listing, and looking/hunting for books/collections--bookselling is not for you. The hustle is real. There are no breaks. Becoming a street bookseller is a whole different MONSTER. Consider this: booksellers are, more often than not, a car repair away from depression. Ease your way into the book selling hustle. DO NOT LEAVE A GOOD PAYING JOB FOR UNKNOWN TERRITORY--ESPECIALLY IF YOUR LADY IS USED TO: vacations, trips to the nail salon, and dinning out. Joey, I suggest you watch, here on TH-cam, the documentary Book Wars. I know some of the guys in the film. It gives an insight into the book hustling world on a street level. Phil has provided excellent advice that you should definitely consider. Keep in mind it's a lonely journey the majority of the time.
Yeah, pay to play... I noticed the other day that Apple is now charging a hefty fee on top of Meta/Facebook. I think it was $21-$22 to Apple to boost an post on Facebook on top of the $50 that was set... That was from a mobile device. I'm not sure if there is a fee on desktop...
Good to see you pop up on here, Phil ! Always enjoy your videos. Thanks !
Thank you!
Snow on the ground! That would shut the South down! :) Happy Holidays to you, Phil.
Haha so I hear! Thanks Amy, Merry Christmas!
I'm watching another video and this video popped up in que - now I'm not paying attention tot he first video because this guys is cute! SO I thought I'd think out oud because life is GOOD and this is what it sounds like! (Random Poetic Girl out!) Oh - and I'm an author - should come back and HEAR what cute guy has to say! (There - on my "watch later" list - which is weird because I watched now but gonna listen later!)
I watched the whole thing and am impressed with the fact that it looks hard, difficult, but rewarding.
@@TheRepublicanProfessor Appreciate the comment, very rewarding despite some of the hardships.
Sick
Greetings from the Netherlands! Thank you so much! Enjoyed every second of the interview and will watch again as it's so informative and easy going, super.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Lotta love in the room.
Keep up the good work. We are all benefiting.
Thanks you so much! Appreciate it!
The best part of this video is when you cover how to live with this knowledge. (around 22:00 to 25:00) I grew up with healthy doses of this type of information. I was shocked in college and then in business with how people figuratively put their hands over their ears and chanted "La la la--la la la, I can't hear you!". You also suggest to "learn how to separate yourself". *Well said*! There are things I know and have seen/experienced. Bothers me deeply, so now I avoid exposure to it. Not sticking my head in the sand that it exists but choosing other issues that I can tackle and still remain upbeat. This is an important video! I'm glad I found it, and that it is still around. Much respect to you!
Fantastic show. Phil, you never disappoint with new videos. The struggle is real. But it's a rewarding one when things get rolling. Wishing great sales for your book stores.
Thanks Joe! Glad you enjoy the videos, I'll keep trying to do my best! Hope your sales have been going great too! Thanks for the well wishes
Next step with those Air BNB units is to rent to people who think they want to run a bookstore and they get to pay to stay and work in a bookstore (for free). That's my plan when I can get my store to a smaller more touristy area
I like the idea and think it could work to a degree. I've contemplated it with my own shop.
A great interview!
I've had the great privilege of interviewing both of these booksellers, and we need more of these conversations. Book talk 247365....
5:25 what lured you into this business? 10:12 eat the frog mentality 14:40 poetry readings, show & tell, book clubs 20:00 would you recommend doing this with a part time job? 24:34 was air b&b part of your plan? (location, location) 27:18 how long did it take to set up shop? 28:50 what was unexpected? 31:03 how do you decide what you stock? 33:31 did you apprentice? 39:00 what is the best part of this business? 45:26 what do you think of live selling? 52:00 influences, ideas, more than a bookshop 56:58 what's your favorite thing about running the shop? 57:02 what's your favorite book buy? 57:10 favorite author or book? 57:35 where do you see yourself going forward? 58:38 one piece of advice? this really was such a great interview, you could totally do more podcasts it was so refreshing to listen because he loves books so much!
@BelleResells Glad you enjoyed it, really appreciate the comment, hope you've been finding success in your book selling, keep up the good work!
Great interview Phil and Jason!! I love hearing from some of the newer people in the book industry.
Thanks Kent!
A wonderful video highlighting two disturbed and crazy booksellers. Remember February is the adopt a book scout month.
Comeon out Mook! We'll bid on ya! A good scout is always needed!
What a great talk! You both have different approaches to the book business that I admire. Community is definitely important and the homeschool community is important to support... particularly for booksellers. I've been involved with it for nearly 20 years now, and as varied as the families are, they all have a hunger for learning and experiences combined. So much I could say...would have loved to been in that room tossing around questions and ideas. Great ceiling! This was a treat to watch. Thanks!
Thanks for watching Amy, glad you enjoyed! Hopefully we can both keep trucking for many years to come! Appreciate the support
Just found your channel. Used bookstores are my favorite place to be!
these are the craziest finds ever, my heart was so happy seeing that poetry, and the murder stuff WOW
It was a pretty exceptional pick! A lot of fun! Thanks for watching!
Great channel, going strong bro. I've tried to do other stuff LOL but it just doesn't work, books and such is where it's at for me.
Thanks Nick, same, keep up the good work!
Is the gods and devils book the entire publication or just an abridged version to get the point across for a sale?
@RoyDugdale-j1s abridged, and I actually forgot to put that in the listing! I'll have to edit it when I get back, thanks for the comment!
@thebookpeddler ah man, I have seen the unabridged go for around $400-$500. Super rare. Love your channel, great books
This "old" video popped up in my feed this morning. I have an old graveyard on my property that has a Revolutionary War veteran too. The stones all face north, and we get wicked winds, so much of the engravings have tipped and worn severely. I did grave rubbings a while back, but it didn't help bring out much of the text. I never knew that about the weeping willow engraving on a stone. Another great video, even if you did it years ago! Thanks!
Thanks Amy! Glad you enjoyed it. I definitely like old graveyards they're just neat!
Wow what treasure! Some beautiful books 🤑
Thanks! 😊 been fun sorting through it all!
Do you have original pulp magazines like blue book or weird tales. Bradles dime novels? Story newspapers from 1860'?
Currently I don't believe so. Definitely have gotten them in, varies year to year what comes in, check out my Ebay store periodically, or if I get a haul like that in and make a video it'll be in the title
Great pick. It's always fun when you can pack the car full of books!!
The pages are toned....... My grade 5 teacher would say them pages are yaller and dog eared.....😂...... keep up the great content 💯👍
I'm gunna start using that now, "Yallered" hahaha - thanks for watching
i can see why you didn't want to pass on this deal but I'm feeling so overwhelmed by your shop on your behalf!
I gotta clear two storage units as well before winter, I like putting myself in pressure situations apparently haha - Thanks for the comment and for watching!
Hello! Nice to see your video and hard work!
Now, that's my kind of pick! I don't think I'd be able to part with the Ancient Monuments book if I came across it. Good to see you, Phil!
Good to hear from you! Yeah books like that can definitely be tough to part with! It's so cool to have it at least for a short bit of time. Stay cozy out there Amy, it's getting nice and chilly 🥶
Great pick.
@@richardmook3693 thanks Mook!
Good to see you back! I missed the Book Peddler.
thanks :) missed you all
I was out most of the day cheering on runners at the NYC marathon. It's always an exciting day. Arriving home to this video was just as great. I always enjoy seeing what Phil buys. It's going to be a long winter. I hope he keeps us busy watching more videos.
I'm gunna do my best! Thanks Joe!
