RC Garage Update (VLOG) Some projects I've been working on (and a wee rant about AE)
After editing this video I realized I came across as moaning a lot about nothing. Which is a fair assessment. 😅 Hey, what can I say. I'm British and we love to moan. 😁 To be honest it wasn't that much of a deal, more of a disappointment really.
Coming from numerous Tamiya, Kyosho and Yokomo builds I had was looking forward to building something different. To me the build is a large part of the enjoyment of this hobby, But upon starting I realized there was:
1. No physical manual.
2., The downloadable PDF manual lacked details, part numbers and had some errors. Also no mention of the body post hole being in the wrong place.
3.No extra hardware was included, not even a single spare e-ring or grub screw!
These all detracted from the overall build enjoyment. 😔
Nevertheless, it is an iconic RC buggy and one I am glad to (finally!) add to my collection. 😊
If anyone from AE is watching. You put out great products.👏 A digital instruction manual is fine. But how about a vintage style manual to go with the vintage buggy? At the very least, please fix the errors and warn newcomers about the incorrect body post markings. Oh, and for those of us who don't have easy access to SAE hardware, a few spares thrown in would be most appreciated. Thank you! 🙏

First up, apologies for the somewhat misleading thumbnail! 😳 I had this photo of the Top Force that I thought looked rather cool and wanted to use it. In addition to upgrades to bring it up to Evo spec, it also has EXO Design carbon shock towers and rear brace, PR Racing big bore shocks and VP Pro rear win...

Yokomo YZ-834B "Dog Fighter" Initial Impressions and thoughts. Is it any good?
มุมมอง 6K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Here are my (not so brief) thoughts on the second re-release from Yokomo, the 1983 YZ-834B. Also known as the Dog Fighter, this is considered to be one of the first 1/10 electric 4WD buggies commercially available. Some unusual features of the 834B include a midship mounted motor with power transferred via a chain and gears fore and aft respectively. At the rear you'll find a gear diff, but the...

PLASTIC FANTASTIC! 😁 KYOSHO LAZER SB DIRT CROSS BUILD REVIEW - A new/old mid tier 4WD RC buggy.
มุมมอง 8K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
Here are my thoughts on the Dirt Cross, a new 4WD mid-tier buggy from Kyosho. Based on the Lazer ZX-5 chassis, this is the second in Kyosho's SB line following on from last year's Ultima SB Dirt Master. Personal opinion - the SB series clearly seems to target those of us wanting a (relatively) modern chassis design, with retro styling at an affordable price point. In Japan, where Tamiya, Kyosho...

WOW!!!!! This is hands down the very very BEST running video I have ever seen on TH-cam. David you knocked this out of the park with everything! Music, transition, editing, location, low-angle shots, slow motion and those golden autumn leaves. This is incredible!!
Love the ginko leaves. Love Starship! love the buggy. Great video David. I was sat with my 3 year old son last night watching this and he got up to dance :D
This is absolutely top shelf!
Thank you! 😊
Man I love the RC10 takes me rite back to seeing them in the magazines.. 😊❤ such an iconic buggy so cool great vid David.. like a team associated version of Tamiya promo vid from Beatties 😊😊 Pete 👍👍😃
Thank you! ☺️ I must admit I am wondering why it took me so long to finally add this iconic buggy to the collection.
Pure excellence David.
Thank you! ☺️
Nothing better than an RC buggy driving through leaves.
It certainly is a lot of fun and makes for some very cool slo mo footage. 😊
David, I don’t know what you do for a living brother but I think you missed your calling. You should be a commercial cinematographer. I’d buy whatever you were selling. I can’t wait to hear what you think about team associated. I’m such a team associated fanboy. Have a good day, brother.
Thank you! I've been into still photography for many years, so it helped me when I began to experiment with video. I still have much to learn. I do hope to do a follow up video on my thoughts on the RC10, but with several RC events coming up and new kits arriving, it might be a while. Needless to say, aside from wishing the instructional manual was a bit better, (the one of the 80's is excellent!) the buggy itself is fabulous. I absolutely love it! 😍 And it drives really, really well. It has a charm about it that's hard to pin down. I do wonder why it took me so long to finally get one?! Now I do, I'm hooked. 😊 The only other downside is the poor spares support. Seems getting gearbox internals is tricky. Some parts appear to be discontinued, which is surprising given this year they've released the 40th, the Jay Halsey and the Green Edition is imminent. 🤷♂️
Great song choice & edit👍
Thank you! ☺️
Great vid!
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. It is most appreciated! ☺️
子供の頃RC10に憧れた気持ちを思い出しました。RC10には特別な魅力がありますよね。

Bro, you have mad skillz!
Thank you! 😊
Top class as always, David! Which motor do you run?
I planned to run the buggy at a local circuit in their RWD race. The regulation motor is Tamiya GT Tuned. It's not very fast and I could definitely work with the gearing. The latest round was last weekend. Unfortunately I wasn't able to source in time suitable wheels/adapters to allow me to run the regulation tires. Hopefully get that sorted for the next round!
@KaiCityRC Thank you! I hope you get the wheels and tires sorted and find a suitable gearing. Good luck for the races!
Looks amazing out there. Well done.
Thank you! The gold pan is definitely a great looking RC. 👍 🤩 😎
What an awesome video, David. The music (that bring back some memories 😅), the slow motion, the car, the leaves, the sceneries. Perfect ✌🤝
Glad you enjoyed it! ☺️ Thanks!
An awesome way to start the day with a Kai City RC love letter to the 80's
The 80's was the best time ever to grow up...I'm totally biased, of course. But it was. 😁
Work of art David!! You are one of the best at doing these running videos pal 🙌🏻
Wow, thank you for the very kind words. ☺️ I'm glad you enjoyed it. 👍
Another great video David! I always find these amazing. 😁👍
Thank you! Autumn is by far the best season to be running RC in the park. 👍
Did you the yokomo 834b?
I have an 834B (videos on the channel). It is completely stock though, and while it does OK on carpet, my modified Optima is quicker. I do plan to take two extra buggies (834B for the '85 class and JJ for the '90 class) as backup machines.
Awesome! I still have my original gold pan and its body. I also painted it that same blue with a gold stripe when I was a kid. LOVE IT!
Thank you! I wasn't sure if the dark blue metallic would work on the RC10. but in contrasts nicely with the gold alloy and gives the whole car a "premium" feel. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. ☺️
Well since green is my favorite color now I gotta get the new green edition
I like the green. If I had the money I'd be tempted to pick one up. But between this, the Plazma mk3 and '87 Ultima I am totally spent up! 😅
@@KaiCityRCsame here, it’s hard to keep up with all the special edition re-releases when they come out so quickly… I gotta start preparing now for Tamiya’s 50th RC Anniversary in 2026
@@JUMBOs-RC Yes! I think we've all got our wish list ready! Could be a fantastic (and expensive!) year for Tamiya RC enthusiasts. 👍
Very Nice! Do you have a program redo the song so it doesn't get tagged?
I don't have any kind of software for that. For most videos I'll use copyright free music as it is less hassle. But in some cases I want a period correct music track for the added nostalgia. I'm fine with having all the ad revenue going to the artists who produced the soundtrack of my childhood. 👍For me, TH-cam isn't about making money. 😌 But if the video will be blocked, pretty much worldwide, there is little point in proceeding. 😥
This video is so gooood!!! The 80's track with the slow motion was superb! Home Run!!!
Thank you!🙏 I am glad this video is receiving such a positive response. The 80's...what a decade! 😁
@@KaiCityRC It was the best decade! I love using 80's and 90's music on my channel, but as you know, copyrighted music complicates things. But your track choice was perfectly aligned with the video. It was a lot of fun.
@@poorboysrc Yeah, it can be a pain at times. I'm fine with giving up the monetization, but when videos get blocked in so many countries it can be really frustrating! 😥
@@KaiCityRC Any idea why it was blocked?
Nice . The song choice for me would have been th-cam.com/video/JlRyk4CXXCI/w-d-xo.html
Beautiful video as always David! Excellent soundtrack too. I wonder what was your first choice..
Cheers! My first choice was The Boys of Summer. I felt it matched the footage I had perfectly. 👍 I got quite a lot of footage that day and plan to put together a couple of versions, a slow mo one (this) and a faster paced one.
@@KaiCityRClooking forward to more!🙌
Superb job David! Loved seeing it ripping through the leaves and the cool slow motion shots of the suspension working. The blue looked fantastic on it out there and of course it performed super well. Sorry you had issues with the initial cut and sing but this one worked out very well, I was singing along LOL!
Thanks Addam! 😊 Glad you liked it!
I don’t like this model too much but the color you chose and your video highlight it. I love the crossing of dead leaves...bravo!✌
Thank you! I'm finding the RC10 to be a strangely addictive machine. The build process wasn't the best (for me), but the finished product, and more importantly the way it looks and drives are wonderful. 🤩 I can see why people get addicted to them. 😊
素晴らしい映像ですね~~~ レースだけがラジコンの楽しさだけじゃないですよね! 最高です!

Watching again and 11 yearold me just fell in love again.
Soooo glad I tuned in for this one!! The RC10 required an instant like ! The music was cherry on top. You killed it with one. Im going to need to share this and watch twice because of all the typing I'm doing.
Thank you so much for the kind words! ☺️ I am so happy this video is resonating with my viewers. The response I've been getting has been wonderful. Cheers! 😊
The colour of the leaves is a perfect match to the golden chassis!❤❤❤
I think so too. Autumn in the park is a great time for RC. Such a shame it is so fleeting. The day after I filmed this, strong winds basically cleared most of the leaves away!
Just catching up on old Kai City videos, this is a perfect video. Nice work!
Thanks! Those guys were getting some serious airtime with the buggies. The Scorpion did well! 😀
Great video I learned alot
Thank you!
Thanks for another garage update videos. Always nice to listen to your thoughts The Dog Fighter looks great, and the shocks on it looks so awesome
Thanks! The YZ-4 shocks work pretty well with no modifications. Although, they have a downside - the taller towers put added stress on the screws attaching them to the bulkhead. I actually sheered the metal right off in a recent disagreement with the barrier. 😅
I am glad you were able to get an RC10. This car is legendary. I hope you can get an RC10t truck too. Thoughts?
The RC10T looks nice, but it is too expensive over here and I can't justify for the money at the moment.
@@KaiCityRC I understand, I want the Yokomo dog fighter but it is just too expensive. It needs a lot of work to drive right. I will stick with Kyosho and Tamiya. Better value for the money. Thoughts?
UPDATE: Thanks to RLrc's comment, I cracked open the box on the Jay Halsey Edition and can confirm it has a manual. It's still essentially the same as the 40th, but now has some part numbers. There is still no parts list at the back, but there is a section on applying the decals. Regardless, I still think the original manual is by far the best. Not only is it useful in building the RC10, it provides a little bit of nostalgia too.😊
I had the same though with my 40th, no manual ? I put it down to saving paper. But the others now have one 🤔 even my rc10 t had issues so hopefully the jay edition will be sorted 🤞 good luck in the races coming up and look forward to seeing the track action 😎
After reading your comment I cracked open the box on my Jay Halsey Edition to see if there is a manual, and sure enough there is! Not only that, but some of the part numbers removed from the 40th have returned. It also has a section on completing the body. Oh, happy days! 😁
@ thats good to hear, but still a few weeks to go untill we get them in the uk 😂
@@lo2713 I'd assumed that the US and UK would get the kits long before they showed up here. So it was quite a surprise to learn that Japan was one of the first places they became available. Now, if only they'd start making a complete set of spares available! 😅
@ haha, i know, im just glad they didnt mess about like they did with the 10 T, agreed. Need spares as i want to run my 40th more next year 😎
All three buggies look great! The RC10 is a terrific buggy and I am glad you finally have one. I will agree the manual is terrible and they should be ashamed of it, same with the green kit they just released but that is a whole different rant LOL!
Oh, I'm really loving the design and looks of the RC10.👍 I've just come back from the latest round in the RWD Cup where once again I lost out to a Vintage RC10! 😁 It took 2nd overall, and I came in 3rd with my modern, "high end" S1RM. The RC10 looked awesome out on the track. 😎
I agree with everything you said about the rc10. They really should’ve done a better job on that manual. Too much figuring out’ along the way for such an expensive kit.
Exactly! Being it is expensive/difficult to get spares here I was trying to be extra careful during the build process not to make any mistakes. And the "manual" wasn't exactly helping!
Same with the rere rc10t, I recommend downloading the original manual as it's so much clearer and packed with information.
Ah, so it's not just the RC10 buggy. Although an RC10T is not on my radar, it's useful to know. Thanks!
I am glad you put up the high pricing of the RC10. I think it's ridiculous that it costs even more than a modern top of the range buggy that still needs to repay it's development cost. I will stay with the Genova, at least it looks like a RC10 😅
Agree totally! As AE kits are imported into Japan, we expect to pay a little more for them. But still, the price seems...excessive. 😞
Thanks for the rc10 build tips. I've also never built one. Being that AE are releasing so many rc10s im not sure the classic I got was the right one. Especially not having the stealth.. Still respect given to AE to release it at all otherwise I wouldn't have one.
As I hope to run mine, possibly in races, I would have really liked to get the stealth transmission. But that is a very expensive option that I cannot justify at the moment. I'm glad AE are joining others in re-releasing so many of their early machines. I just hope they offer parts support along with them. 😥
