When I became a quadriplegic in 2009, I didn’t have any insight into the lives of the roughly 20% of Americans living with a disability. While dealing with my recovery, I also had to grapple with how my identity was being reshaped by social barriers and attitudes that hindered my ability to live and interact with the world in the same way as before.
Over the years, my own understanding of disability has evolved. Today, I believe society is witnessing a shift in the way people like me have a voice and are represented in the media and beyond.
In April 2020, my husband Rudy and I welcomed twin girls into the world. I face the same joys and challenges of any parent, but with some extra twists! Join me on my journey of beauty, love and adventure in a world that is still mostly designed for the non-disabled.
I hope my story will challenge biases and equip viewers with new perspectives. Thanks for watching! 😀

You are not a burden
You are a great parent
Congratulations!
Negative comments are a waist of time/energy to read. Those who write discouraging comments are not worthy of your time & enery. Freely judging & offering unsolicited advise to others regarding anything & everything has become the latest "Great America Pastime" (Since ~ TH-cam started). Ignore IT ALL because "Life's too short" & hard enough already without reading the pointless meaness!!! Look at it like Breaking an addiction to a form of "self-harm", which is: waists our precious time on Earth by reading negative/mean/ unhelpful, hurtful comments ever again. I just refuse to read them any longer. :●}
Mighty strong this woman! Awesome
Your beautiful baby daughter is adoringly staring at her mommy ❤
Raising twins !!?? I have only child,. 😄 Plenty for me,. Wow !! U r rockin'

Very important and inspiring video, keep sharing ❤
I just watched your film at the Women's Film Festival in Port Townsend, WA. I am not a quad, nor a "mom of twins" but you had me at "Hello, babies!" I am a mom who birthed two daughters; Melissa, now a Special Ed teacher and Julie, who lived 12 tremendous years with a brain tumor. I am grandma to three! I would love to be able to share this film with Melissa as she was not able to go with me to the Film Festival today. Is it showing on any other platforms? Hugs, Grandma Jennie
I know exactly what you mean I have Autism and mental illness and people say I should never be a parent and that is untrue and mean.
Thank you for sharing. I hope you're all doing well.
Simply awesome! So impressed by you and how you are handling the negativity. You are doing great and will continue doing so in the future. I hear there is going to be a movie made - good for you!!! Your kids have a fantastic mom and are very lucky to have you.
An important, timely, and superb video. How very fortunate that those twin young ones of yours have a mom like you and not someone crippled by the crushing and tragic afflictions of ignorance, arrogance, and stupidity. I'm thankful that you and your two wonderous babies are in the world. Press on.
How did you not know if they were identical or fraternal? Did your doctor not perform any prenatal genetic screening exams!? I'm not talking about amnio or CVS but like, the blood test you get at ~10-13wks when they also type your blood to check for Rh+ or Rh-.
Dear. Danni. Congratulations on your twins. They're adorable.❤❤ I wanted to know if my wife could have a healthy baby naturally at 39 or 40 years old. And she has Cerebral palsy. Also I'm autistic. Will our kid one day be born healthy without chromosomal problems. I'm really concerned for when and if we get get pregnant one day?
This answered so many of my questions! Thank you!
I like a guy but we're both disabled I have a learning disability which is not very visible but his is more visible and I'm concerned it won't work we haven't made it official we're still thinking about it We're not gonna make it official until we know it can work and we do want kids But I have a lot of questions about it can the government take your kids away when you're both disabled that is my main question I'm just distraught because I like him a lot
I love this idea I have 3 year old like you I found it hard to get information for a disabled mum and I live in the UK good luck with everything xx
Wow...she seems more competent and able than most other people that do not have her "disadvantage". Some People should just shut up and swallow what they want to say...
I don't feel bad for you or your family I'm sure you all do great, as a parent with a high functioning autism child with adhd and severe behavioural issues it make my PI@@ boil all the stupid comments people make when know literally nothing.... Good for you and not letting these morons get to you
Thank you so much! I’m about to start using a wheelchair and am hoping for kids in the next five or so years! The wheelchair is giving me my life back so I can have kids, but there’s so few resources!
Awesome 👏
I hope you can emphasize the same thoughts and feelings about having a family and raising children that able bodied people have. Please consider making a statement against the common myth..that disabled people have children to help care for you...NO NO THAT IS NOT IT... like most people...the decision to have and raise children is to explore the new realm of care giver to shaping another human who will become their own independent person and form their own thoughts and ideas and life choices. The excitement of watching and guiding the learning process from potty training and learning numbers and colors and abcs up to helping with college loans and having adult conversations with your grown children. Please debunk that myth that children are to help care for disabled family members. Your girls are not 'mommy's little helpers' anymore than anyone else's kids are. So amazing you are. So mature. Congrats on starting your beautiful family. You both are wonderful.
Lexi- so true! It never even crossed my mind, because I’ve never looked at having kids as a way to get extra help. I’ve just looked at it as creating family- providing and generating love. Of course I want helpful, considerate children like most parents, but that doesn’t mean I intend for them to cater to my disability related needs. That toxic myth you describe exists and I will touch on it in the future, because I’ve seen disabled parent friends get pushback based on those assumptions. Thank you!
Many thanks for this! It’s definitely a challenge balancing motherhood with all other aspects of our lives- including my own artistic endeavours as an independent musician 💕 Thanks so much for the inspiration.
I have rheumatoid arthritis and had an emergency csection with my first. My kids are teenagers now. It’s hard and exhausting but definitely worth it! 💗
2013 I went to having an emergency c-section and the epidural paralyzed me from waist down. It was really hard coping with a newborn and fun learning to be in a wheelchair. Being paralyzed and taking care of the newborn is a little hard I can imagine how it was with two. I wouldn't change it for the world my daughter's now seven and it was hard at first and it got so much easier the older she got. I had my 2nd child 9 months ago it is easier bc I know how to do things better than b4. Congratulations on the twins. You'll do great & learn fast on how to do for your babies differently from people that can walk but what is best for you and your kids.
Can't wait for this film! So proud of you, Dani & Rudy🙂 Love you both so much ❤️
I'm just sitting here in shock 7cm dialated & filming yourself! You both did an amazing job! Btw I love the pacifier attachment. So cute. I cannot wait for everyone to see your Doc. You also did this during a. Pandemic so I would say job well DONE ✅ xo Daniela
Thank you for bringing these girls into the world ❤️ 💕💟💓 Thank 🙏 you for showing the world your vulnerability..which is very hard to do. But I think you have & will help a lot of Mom's out there much love for ❤️💘 your Family & that your doing so well
So proud 😀 of you 2 talking about these real life things that us people with disabilities deal with in our daily lives. I did not know you were podcasting Andy. That Dr. Made me sick to my stomach. I am in shock & have to share this. This is a problem with adoption as well. If you are a couple & or a same sex couple.. If 1 of you is physically disabled. It's becomes almost imoossible. I had a friend who passed who wanted to adopt her grandson through CPS. Because she was in a wheelchair though had ability to walk very minimal. She was told she would not meet the standards. Her sister ending up adopting him on her behalf. I grew up with a disabled mother & her sister in a wheelchair from a child. It is a privilege my sister & family believe at our core. To grow up knowing from the start. There are all sorts of people in this world. We all LOVE the same .. share kindness sadness anger. All emotions just like everyone else. I think it humbles a child. They seem to show more love & care to the world & the friends they meet along the way & accepting. To hear a young professional Female dr. & An elderly man agree was just shocking! Many studies were done about same sex parents especially men. They found because it is so much more difficult to have a child. There was no neglect, abuse physical or verbal. Basically they tended to be so loving of being able to have that child or blessed with more than 1. These children never had cps involved in their life or teachers make complaints. Only people that disagreed with their sexuality. I'm wondering now if they've ever done ✅ a study on disabled parents. Thank you 💖💞🤩 for posting this & opening people's eyes . I was subscribed to dani but somehow never knew you had this going Andy. Keep this up. My sister & I have been considering doing a channel. It's the 30th anniversary of the ADA yet no one seems to be talking about that either. There are too many of us in this world to be ignored or spoken about by "tv Dr.'s that most likey have not encounters 1 disabled friend or family member in their life or taken the time to get to know 1. I rarely comment on things, but this sent me over the edge of the cliff pun intended lol & get the conversation going & keep it going thanks again for doing what you do. 🤗
You’re amazing!
As someone who is a wheelchair user and eventually wants to have children, I have been loving all of what you've been sharing about the beginnings of parenthood. You are an amazing parent and this woman clearly is just ignorant!
I’m so anxious about people judging me, I’m due in 4 week and use a power chair. We already get weird comments from people asking if my husband is my carer. I dread having to go on public transport with my baby, mainly because of other people’s comments, I don’t know how to not get upset when people suggest that I shouldn’t have the full, happy life I do. It’s like they would prefer to see me more disabled than I am, that would somehow be easier for them to understand. Thanks for sharing your life online, I’m learning lots from your videos.
Dani keep being the best mommy to those two baby girls as you can. 👍
People can be SO rude. They assume disabled means unable to do anything at all. Your children are blessings and your husband is so lucky, her trying to say the babies are a burden is a disgusting attitude! I saw a comment else where saying how disabled people shouldn't work either as it costs employers too much money. And also heard how a disabled guy doctors chose to let him die as they had decided he had no quality of life!
What a brave angel you are 🙏
Thank you for sharing your family with us Dani, we miss you here in San Diego! Love your strength, you are always an inspiration. xoxo
thank you for captioning! I'm an identical twin and love these twin stories plus your Disabilities access ( hurrah!)
I’ve been looking high and low for products for disabled mothers and have been unsuccessful. Thank you for these ideas!!!
Shnita Camps you are so welcome. I’ll be doing a part 2 soon :)
I found your sweet family at the expo and can't wait to follow your story.
Oh my goodness. This looks so great. I cannot wait to watch it. Im excited yall are sharing this season of life with us. May the Lord continue to bless yall
You go girl! The world needs to hear and see that disabilities don’t define people. (Says the mother of 3 young adult girls with disabilities.)
That was a good interview!
Bravo, great work!
Well done everyone! I look forward to seeing the final film!
Dani, congratulations on being a mommy! On your word press blog there is no contact. If you want to swap SCI stories jam my handle all together and add @gmail.com Best to you
Followed you on Instagram just a few days before the birth and I just love finally seeing someone in the same situation as me talking about pregnancy and things like that! It is honestly very reassuring to see you explain everything and also be honest about the ups and downs of pregnancy/giving birth! :)
I loved these videos Dani - thank you for making them, especially at such a vulnerable time. Though I don't have a spinal cord injury quite a lot was familiar from my births. So hard being separate afterwards. And I do wish there was more in place for us disabled mothers at maternity hospitals.
