    I have been scared to venture into structured pants because of sizing! Do you usually go off of finished garment sizing or body measurements? They are always so different from each other.

      And I can celebrate her for that for sure. What's insulting is companies assuming folks will assume she's Black bc of her struggles. What's upsetting is a company placing a non-black person in a space meant to celebrate Black people. Given how she has Black people in her family who seem proud and joyful with regards to their blackness, I get the feeling she'd agree that this was a chance to platform a Black creator. The people who don't see race never get it... Yet somehow aren't in true community with folks of other races. 😪

    Thank you so much for your review. My body shape is such that my waist (30 inches) puts me in a size 16. I only have the pattern range up to a size 14. You’ve assured me that the pattern runs large and I should be fine. Thanks for sharing. Pants are new to me.

      I'm glad it was so helpful. Yeah the big 4 sizing can be all over the place sometimes. And then also depending on the fabric you end up using and where on your waist or hip you like to wear pants, there could be a huge range of sizes that work

    It occurred to me that you could sharpen your old and new rotary blades with a sharpener. I recall purchasing mine at JoAnns. I dont remember how well it works because I usually use my Gingher scissors to do the majority of my cutting so my rotary blades do not dull quickly

    Thanks for sharing the details as you move through this self imposed challenge…few hobbies are really cheap anymore. Sigh. For tracing paper, or rather, to copy patterns, I have used wrapping paper from the dollar store…wouldn’t allow you to see to copy one of your vintage patterns, but might provide some backup. When I’ve gone through some leaner times, I moved back to cutting with my sewing shears. Takes a little longer, but mush cheaper. And have you read about rotary blade sharpeners? That might get you a little more mileage out of your blades. Best wishes! Chris in FL

    If you are really trying g to save money this year....do what our ancestors did. Depression era tip...which ends up being weirdly 21st century sustainable. My grandmother, a trained seamstress, when she would make clothing for her children would draft everything out on newspaper. After she passed away, I found only o e of them that hadn't been thrown out. On it is the ad for a movie...It Happened One Night. Nb. If you do this, newspaper should be at least 3 months old to let ink fully dry. I get the parts of Sunday paper from my father who sabes them for !e.

    • @LboumLike
      @LboumLike ปีที่แล้ว

      Imma keep that one in my back pocket if need be 👍🏿 I reference using newspaper when I first started sewing. It's harder than tracing paper since you can see through it, but great for drafting

    • @annielovesvintage

      My mum always used baking parchment, so that’s what I use still. It is sheer so you can see what you’re tracing and fairly durable. I only use specialist paper if the pattern piece is larger than the width of the baking parchment as it doesn’t stick well. Although I have previously pinned the parchment together and that works.
