History of the Catholic Church: Every Year(1054-2024)
This video shows the evolution of the Roman Catholic Church since the Great Schism and of the Eastern Catholic Churches in a more limited manner. Fringe groups not associated with the church, like Sedevacantists, Palmarian Church and Old Catholics are not shown, not being in the church.
This video only shows the Ecclesiastical Provinces and their 'ancestors'. Sui Iuris Missions, Prefectures, Administrations, Vicariates and other pre-diocesan entities are not shown except if they will eventually evolve in a present archdiocese OR if they evolve into a present independent territorial structure (with a couple of easily-documented exceptions). For example, Vicariate of Ghardaia exists today so it is show from the beginning. Vicariate of Mackenzie will eventually evolve into the Archdiocese of Grouard-Mclennan and the associated province so it is shown. Latin American vicariates are not shown before 2000 because of unclear territory. Most of the percentages are from a Catholic perspective so they might not reflect population censuses.

As a Turk, I wanted the Ottoman Empire to do colonialism in the 1500-1600's. Imagine, if Kılıç Ali Pasha or Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha (They were Kaptan-ı Derya, "Great Captain Admiral of the Seas") had crossed the Atlantic Ocean and colonized the Aztecs or Incas, perhaps today we would have a Ottoman Commonwealth and a Republic which has Nation-State structure like Türkiye. Maybe, our explorers would preach İslam to Aztecs or İncas. Probably, Emperor Moctezuma would be a Muslim and he would named "Mustapha". Because, at least as far as I guess, we would not want their culture to be lost due to the Ottoman Empire's Tolerance Policy, it called "İstimalet", and they would live with both their own culture and ours, as we did with the Bogomil Bosnians.

Basically yes. Catherine the Great established an archdiocese for the Catholics in her country, with the seat being at Mogilev. It was recognized by the pope not much later. Since Catholicism was almost non-existent in the Russian Empire and the hierarchy was further curbed during the soviet era, it remained in place in that form until the 1990s

Also keep in mind that these track the numbers of baptized people, not self-identification (that's why Latin America switches so fast - mass conversions). I'm not sure what you mean about Northern Europe, it's clearly the palest red. The deep red you see there must be Poland, which remains strongly Catholic

Also, before the Patriarchate of Rome was established, Jerusalem (St. James the Greater), Antioch (St. Peter), Alexandria (St. Mark), and Byzantium (St. Andrew, later Constantinople) were established. The ancient Church is still united in theology and through the first four Patriarchies. Rome doesn’t even have unified theology, as the Latin Rite theology is wildly different than the 22 Eastern Rite churches which range from Orthodoxy, Monophytism, and Nestorianism

@@JustinianRomanovyou accepted primacy of the Pope in first millennium which makes that Orthodox abandoned their own tradition. Orthodox Churches are not unified and in essence they are ethno-national churches dependable on secular governments of given nations. That's how Orthodox churches came into existence, because Constantinople wanted the influence of Rome. There are Orthodox Churches with different communions with each other and many are In direct conflict. You cannot have many truths and churches but only one truth and one Church. Very schism happened because selfish and prideful Patriarch of Constantinople Michael Cerularius who committed blasphemous acts against Latin Eucharist (He gave order that Eucharist from Latin churches to be thrown on the streets)and tried to kill Latin prelates. Later he wanted to make himself emperor. There was never large scale excommunication between Catholic and Orthodox Churches, only Michael Cerularius and his immediate clergy were excommunicated. Unfortunately the rest of eastern clergy joined in separation from Catholic Church. How much councils Orthodox Church had, and when was the last one? It simply shows how unified and in agreement they are, they cannot agree with each other which means they are not one Church.

Addressing some concerns Why did I start in 1054 since the Catholic Church started in 33 AD? Simply put: because of the Great Schism. You have to understand that there are at least 3 other churches that claim to have started with Jesus and the Apostle. The Assyrian Church, the Oriental Orthodox and the Eastern Orthodox claim to be the One True Church. Not to mention all the Protestant denominations that claim to restore true Christianity. As I've said before, the debate about the One True Church is for theologians, not historians and this is a history channel. I'm not here to promote the Catholic interpretation of history, but to provide a view that can be accepted by all. As far as I'm concerned, the Great Church is the ancestor to both Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches and while a divide can be seen between them before the schism, then is the first time they were institutionally separated. Representing them in a video not about specifically early Christianity would give the impression that one separated from the other, an impression I do not want to give, since it would be biased. All in all, when I make the video on the Eastern Orthodox I'll also begin in 1054 so that I'm consistent

@@fragdoch-nicht1290 protestantism is contrary the principle of non contradiction, the first principle of logic, two contradictory statements cannot be both true. And free interpretation of the scripture will lead every man to his own truth and moral, this is why there is a multitude of protestant sects all disagreeing with each other. Because as human are limited in will and intelligence they cannot get to the full truth and good on their own means. Thus only through a special divine assistance, not human assistance, could the truth be preserved from corruption and debate settled through the challenges of History. God is omniscient, so he knew that, that is why he founded a church, and gave one man leadership over it, and promised that the gates of hell would not prevail against it ever, through a special assistance of the holy Ghost, to bind and loose everything on earth and in heaven. A single error makes a whole story false, so no one can be saved if he does not believe what the one true church proclaims on morals and Dogma. This special grace pertains only to that purpose, to officialy and clearly proclaimed statements on morals and dogma (and not the political, cultural or personal opinions of the man who holds tha office) by the highest authority of the church: the pope. This corpus of teachings is called the magisterium of the church. if there is one true God there is thus one truth and one moral, his moral. And he came down on earth to preach that truth and moral. Very interesting over time. Only thing I'll bring up is the spelling "Sidney" for Sydney (4:02)- I don't know if this is a typo or an obscure Catholic spelling of the city's name because I'm Australian and I've never seen that spelling.
