Acidieus vs Narcissus - This is not meant to sound happy!
I started writing this a few days ago and had lots of fun with it. When I get time, I will hopefully develop it further.. and have more fun with it. Still lots to be done!!

Cafe Del Mar - Atari ST Cubase
มุมมอง 22K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Follow me on Insta: acidieus and Twitter: acidieus This is me playing around with some ideas of Cafe Del Mar by Energy 52. All sequenced in and recorded live from an Atari ST. I dont have a mixing desk, so the outboard hardware is running directly to the PC audio inputs.
Atari ST :: Ariana Grande - One Last Time Remix Idea
มุมมอง 1.7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I do this for fun and creative reasons using my Atari ST :) Vocal samples by the very brilliant Ariana Grande from her single "One Last Time". If ads appear on the video, they have been put there by TH-cam to support the artist, copyright holders & publishers.
Guess the track?! Lots of fun working on remix idea earlier :)

Atari ST - A Clockwork Funeral
มุมมอง 2.3K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This is me writing a version of Purcell's Funeral Music, the theme of A Clockwork Orange. When creating this, I deliberately didn't listen to the original or Clockwork Orange versions. I recorded it from the memory I have of Alex whistling in the movie. It's not accurate, nor is it meant to be. I had fun working on this although it is not meant to be a finished piece, more a palette of working ...
👍
The same computer Kate Bush used for parts of hounds of love. I used one on my albums too. Very easy and cube base. Just on or off. Akai S3000 and tr808. Best set up I ever had. Everything else later got too complicated and took the fun out of writing tunes. Agree they have more memory and greater technical ability on later computers and sequencers but love the old days. Great tunes thanks.
best midi timing ever
I ran my ATARI 4 MB STE rig (Steinberg Cubase 3, Steinberg Unitor, Creamware MO8 and Roland VS-880 EX) until 2000. I then switch to Apple iMac (Steinberg Cubase VST32, Yamaha UX256, Edirol sound card). The thing I really miss about the Atari set up was its operating system simplicity and MIDI timing (lack of latency). It just grooved! I found the timing to MIDI instruments and even MIDI timecode driving the VS-880EX (recording or playing back vocals etc.) really solid and locked-in.

Clean. Lean. Awesome!!!
Yooo I love this!
soo cool new sub
Nice Mix
and this have sound integrated?
sound from what?
Hello, really nice !! I didn't get what sound generator are you using here . I suppose Atari ST is just sequencing ( or not? ) thanks !! 🙂
I have always been THOROUGHLY impressed by the true capacity for creation these old machines have. I started in MS-DOS.
You make this music with outboard synth's or sound modul, right?!
Damn this is good, thumbs up.
Many so self-called "music producers" got everything ready in the palm of their hands, yet their productions leave much to be desired. They would abandon the idea of producing any type of music given the choice of having just and Atari running cubase, and a couple of hardware synths. (@ influencers, google "Atari") They do not know that the limitations in music producion makes them squeeze every single drop of creativity coming out their brains, always alert and exploring ways to do things. Music production is not for influencers, it is for real people who can make music.
Good morning. I just discovered your channel and I love it. I was offered an Atari ST 520 and I would like to run it with my machines (Yamaha RM1X, Yamaha SU200, and Yamaha MD4S. Plus other small effects). Do you think this is possible, or is it a bad idea? Thank you for your inspiring channel!!!
as long as your "machines" do support OG MIDI, then yes, why not. Be sure your ST will have 1MB RAM for Cubase 2.0 or older, and 2,5+MB for Cubase 3.x. If your ST comes for free, then good, if you are shopping for one, get the STE no matter what version (can be upgraded via SIMMs). When you shop for Cubase, be sure to get the cartridge dongle (software can be downloaded for free) and/or MIDI /SMPTI ports multiplicators like MIDEX+. You also probably will need to get MIDI DIN5 to USB adapter, since modern tools often lack DIN5 ports. I also recommend some HDD replacement for you, like Ultrasatan mini, easy to use SD Card based, makes work much more convenient then just using the floppy all the time.
This almost makes me wish my folks had bought us an Atari ST rather than an Amiga 😀Joking aside, I'm really impressed with what you did here. I've always loved this tune and I am genuinely enjoying your take on it. I hope you'll upload more sometime.
with a midi interface, you could also use the Amiga as a full multitasking sequencer, enabling you for exemple to play samples on the Amiga's 4 voices while controlling the midi instruments. I used my expanded Amiga with Bar&Pipes software until 1999 and in those days it blew away everything that existed on other platforms.
@pumpum800 Yes but the midi.library on the Amiga had timing issues.
@@jimbotron70 I may have been lucky, but I've never had a problem like this.
@@pumpum800 It's a known issue, you can google it.
@acidieus Do you publish somewhere your MIDI/Cubase files ?
This is excellent, Mate 😎👍🏽
It's really great what you can do with what is basically a MIDI sequencer with a GUI.
cool! impressive track!
Wow! I got goosebumps! You're so good at this! I hope you decide to upload again! :)
I've just discovered your channel and I'd love to hear more! I love the old school sound!
I love it! You're amazing, thank you for sharing! :)
Excellent!
My first music computer with Steinberg Pro.16 program. Top !!
Hi do you have any tutorial videos in how you do this process? Thanks
Hi, I have no tutorials at the moment. I can try and make one. Which part interests you the most?
@@acidieusawesome, I’m interested in how you did the vocal tracks! I just subscribed to your channel, love your content 😊
@@pauldiaz4273 Thanks for subscribing and feedback! :) I will look into some type of tutorial when working with vocals like this!
Love this distorted synth.
Thanks for listening! It's a Moog sample I use on Yamaha A5000 and run through the internal dist effect, and then through the A5000 filters :)
Dark Train
Thats 2nd suggestion of Dark Train. I will have to look that one up! This idea was based on this track: th-cam.com/video/aEvi8_GTrZA/w-d-xo.html
:]]]] Cubase from 198x...
Years ago I posted off the v1.65 EPROM from the earlier black model Steinberg SMP24, to someone who then copied it to a few blank EPROMs and gave me a spare along with the BIN file firmware dump. I added the red SMP II not long after and so both could work with Cubase 2.0. I guess your SMP24 already has this firmware version as its running on Cubase in your video.
Hi, yes I believe the SMP24 needs the newer 1.65 ROM to work properly with Cubase. Thankfully the one I bought about 20 years ago had this already applied. They are a brilliant add-on when using Cubase with multiple MIDI devices! :)
Just got got, repaired and refurbished a STacy, got a MIDI to USB cable to try to get a copy of Cubase to control my laptop DAW and hopefullly get my OP-1 to work as both a synth and controller. I also have an emu Orbit and an Emax II. I think I found a cracked Cubase 3 but have not tried it yet. The STacy has 4MB RAM. Any place / forum / community I can go for support with this or somewhere I can download tracks to try to get to play?
Great job on the STacey find and refurb! I use ST to trigger PC sometimes via MIDI. The audio hardware I have for PC has MIDI I/O, so I just use that. MIDI <-> USB cable should do the trick as well. There's a good Atari ST forum with a section for music. Cubase is discussed there too ;) Cubase can load MIDI files into an arrangement. It would be a great place to start: www.atari-forum.com/viewforum.php?f=111
@@acidieus awsome. Yeah I found a NOS display and keyboard for it so the screen is nice and bright and all keys work. It’s got an external sd card hard drive and it’s all dialed in. I put Cubase 3 on it last night. Now I need to drag my Orbit and Emax II out of storage. For now I’d like to just find some midi tracks I can load in for testing and setup. All I have is the one that came with Cubase lite. I need some good ones like yours (hint hint 😆)! Actually in need your help setting up my Emax and teaching me how to make some non crappy tracks too. No matter how much equipment I have I still suck.
@@sideburn Thats amazing you were able to get NOS on those items. Thats a great machine you have!! Ok, no problem, I will try my best to help you, although Ive no experience with Emax II or Orbit. I can maybe point you in right direction, and help with Cubase too. Let me see how I can do this :)
@@acidieus cool. Ok. Well for starters I bought a midi to usb cable on Amazon and figured I’d try to get my op-1 keyboard to connect and maybe my MacBook Pro with ableton or logic ? Is there a way to email you from here ? Not sure how that works on TH-cam to avoid the spammerz…
@@sideburn Check your inbox ;)
How much sampler memory did the vocals take?
Hi, all of the vocal files loaded in to Akai is about 45 meg. 16bit 44khz stereo. Thanks for listening and subscribing :)
@@acidieus OK, thanx. What is the total amount of mem in your Akai? Do you use additional HDs?
@@artem34901 The Akai I use in this has 256 meg ram. I don't have an internal hard drive. I have samples, multis, programs etc saved on a PC and I used AkSys on PC and the USB board on Akai to transfer.
@@acidieus That's pretty big RAM. Thanx.
@@artem34901 They can be upgraded using old PC memory. 256 meg is max for machine. If you have a S5/6k sampler, I highly recommend maxing out it's memory if not already done. They are very powerful machines, especially when used alongside a computer for sample editing / optimising.
haha! you motherhacker! =) cool!
I made my first MIDI act with those machine and a Roland soundcanvas sound module, plug with an oberheim matrix 6 as a midi out keyboard, my music teacher have all of this equipement in his classroom, most of us didn't have synth, but i get my first hardware synth and Roland groovebox because of this possibility, cubase on atari St was a royal way to make home studio music, in the late 80s and 90 s.
The ST with a Roland SoundCanvas is what I used when studying music in the 90's. A great setup!!
Ever wondered how the mega successful 80s and 90s project SNAP! by Luca Anzilotti and Michael Münzing got it's name? Look upper left below the 'close' button....
Yes, very true!! Im just glad they didnt call themselves "Quantize" :D
buenísimo¡¡
Thanks for listening :)
Great to see this sequenced on an st
It's so much fun using Cubase on an ST!! :)
Pre-- Cygnus X the orange theme
Ah, great choon! Haven't heard that in a long, long time!
Genial, cuando esto si era autentica música, saludos.
When I put like 3 or 4 tracks in my Ableton on my quad core 3 Ghz 16 GB RAM machine, it starts to clip and generates sound errors. On this 8 Mhz with 1 or 2 MB of RAM, everything works like a charm with dozens of tracks.
Ableton seems to be very demanding. I tried it on my PC (i7 24 GB ram) and it was not what I was hoping for. The Atari is really just sending pulses out, and all the "hard work" is done by the attached hardware, although it is possible to push the hardware to it's knees when used in anger. But yes, the Atari works brilliantly. It's a very reliable setup :)
Remember no PCM sound are involved in the process MIDI was just keyboard data recorder only note and pitch bend data were record Midi cable can send and received 16 track of data in almost realtime, it was a rock solid protocole that can work with any synth, sampler, drum machine and computer that use it.
Really well done...
Hi, thanks for listening :)
Puedo usar esto em mi chiquitita, pueden decirme donde puedo encontrar los sonidos

This is a great track! It's inspiring to see these old tools still being used in a productive and solid way. It even makes me feel slightly guilty of when I sometimes complain about something with my Logic Pro X :D
Thanks so much for listening and the comments. Ive still to finish this track. Hasnt been loaded up since I took this video, but I will be doing a v2 of it. Modern DAW's are really great. I do love using the Atari though!! :D
@@acidieus Looking forward to hear it! And I imagine it’s great to use Cubase Atari ST to produce, as it puts you in context of how some producers in the 90s made music. :)
@@beepstI've been using Cubase on ST since the early/mid 90's and it's what I started writing electronica on. The real reason to me why it's so good, is that it's an amazingly complex piece of software running on a very reliable OS. Zero distractions when using it.. and the ST metronome sticks out like a sore thumb! It works exactly the same and as reliably as it did in the 90s... plus I'm able to load up my old dirge music from the 90s and work on it again exactly as I'd left it... so it's kinda like a time machine as well!! :D Modern DAW and hardware is really impressive. I do like working within the limitations of the older hardware though... and also that (most) hardware isnt as expensive now as it was in the 90s!!
This is fascinating and sounds so fresh. Would have loved to be a 90’s producer with all of the hardware equipment and Cubase Atari.
Hi, thanks for listening and the comments. The Atari is so much fun to use with 90's hardware. I would recommend it to everyone! :)
you can do it now without breaking the bank. it´s all still available and cheap.
Aw, I wanted it to keep going at the end :) - best version of this I've heard. Love it.
Thanks for listening and comments :) I should really get to work on doing a longer version of this!!
AWESOME what is possible on an AtariST. Beside an AtariST and cubase, what is needed for this? I only have MT-32/CM-32L and SC55
Yes, the Atari ST is a very capable machine :) With the hardware you already have, I would suggest a sampler. The SC55 is one of the fist sound modules I ever used with an Atari. It has some very usable sounds for something like this! Definitely look at a sampler as well. It would work great alongside an SC55. I have put together some basic MIDI parts for Cubase v3.1 on the following page. You could program some of these in and see how it sounds with your existing hardware :) www.acidarbiter.com/atari/210-cubase-v3/remixes/21993-cafe-del-mar-midi-parts
