But what if sometimes we don't want to be a playing character?
Mark Zuckerberg is either a lizard or an NPC, cant figure it out yet.
Even among players in game there's a pro and a noob... the guy that can't even do his taxes and have absolutely zero critical thinking skills is not a player character in my book. People that can't control themselves and just following their guts feeling, a.k.a AFK players, are NPCs.
The motherlode cheat code from the sims would be nice to have irl
We call them NPC’s because they act like NPC’s in a game. I had a friend who was a massive NPC back in high school every day he had the same greeting and you had to do a little song and dance before the actual conversation. That was just the ritual that happened like clockwork or like scripted events. He is an NPC because he acts scripted.
This is really helpful! Didn’t expect to find such a clear video on how to do this as I tried to set it up. Thanks.
I have to put notes in Notes or Keeper. I can't read my handwriting.
Digital writing usually counts. There are a few instances where analog writing beats digital writing hands down, but digital works fine here.
Start your to do lists with a task to finish the list. Learned that from pirate software (on YT), it’s a huge help for keeping momentum
It's not procrastivity! It's a side quest!
“You’re teaching yourself to be helpless.” Brilliant!
There are so many ways we do this without realizing it!
Can i use this method to move on from breakup when my ex cheated on me?
Arguably, yes. Journaling can help us process experiences and bring a sense of closure.
@ColterReed enjoyed your newsletter!
This sort of task breakdown can be very helpful to those with ADHD! Thank you!
So true!
for some reason its not working for me - nothing is happening?? If i tap on "Reset Rituals" shortcut it asks me "what is completed do you want to set ?" Any ideas ?
same here. I hope he has a solution
same issue here. I wonder if this was due to an update or if his instructions were accidentally inaccurate. [EDIT: I figured it out, in { set. is completed of 'repeat item' to NO} for some reason I had to remove "repeat item" and then put it back again in order to fix what may be a bug. I also checked and unchecked the boxes and changed "No to Yes and then back to NO in that same code line in case that matters.
Kindles are actually pretty sturdy and scratch resistant. I ditched my case and loved using the Kindle again. Then I stuck a Pop Socket on the back. It’s a gamechanger.
Thanks for this amazing Video. I only have one problem!!! I set the shortcut and the automation, however for any reason it is not doing it I always have to uncheck everything by myself in the morning eventhow the automation is setup. Do you Know why this happens?
If you lay the cover ontop of the Magnet on the back of the case, is the pop socket magnet strong enough through the case? Did you try it and I missed it? If so - sorry, but if not could you let me know please :)
time is all we got
A lot of my spare seconds, and minutes, and hours, have slipped between the couch cushions.😂
Fantastic
Hi Colter! New to your channel, but intrigued to improve myself from A to Z. This is great! I have managed to make everything digital. I'm wondering if this method could be transferred digitally with 43 digital folders and, let's say, files in the Files app. The trick would be how to build around it to have these remind you on the respective days, months, and years automatically. Wondering your thoughts on this. Basically, every time I get any mail, like my vehicle registration reminder five months in the future, I scan it, and I may get either a reminder or calendar event linking the PDF I just scanned for context, and that reminds me that it's time to send a check or renew online. Maybe I don’t need this system, but I’m always intrigued to renew myself and am open to new clever ideas. With great respect for your thought process and ingenuity, how would you go about this if you had to?
You absolutely could! Rotating the folders might be a little tricky, since Files is going to want to sort the folders, but there are ways you can work around that. I actually do something similar with tasks in OmniFocus.
@@ColterReed True! Maybe the trick here could be cheating the sort i.e.: 0. Tomorrow 1. Mon 2.Tue 1. Jan 2. Feb Etc
This is genius! Will definitely try this.
I have something similar, but I just use the repeat function under each “ritual”. That can be set to daily, weekly, whatever you want. Check them off today, and they will be back tomorrow. No need for the shortcut at all.
I am in Lower East Nirvana, but I have no idea where I am going.
The good news is, you’re halfway there!
Or you can just make them daily when you create the rituals and you have a unchecked list every day 🤔
Possibly. I think I tried that and there was something about the result that I didn’t like. Too long ago to remember. I might have to try it again.
Maybe if you don’t check every task till the next day, they will be shown red as overdue.
When I try to run the Shortcut automation to reset the list, I get a pop-up asking "What is completed do you want to set?" - Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
I get the same thing.
Interesting. I haven’t seen that one. Are you sure it’s acting on the Repeat Item? 🤔
I went into that action toggled the NO to YES then back to NO and now it works. Obviously a little bug, but now it behaves like it did for Colter in the video.
Toggling no to yes and back to no also worked for me. Thanks greghilt8492!
But it won’t show how you’ve done over time right? Like the activity app does for exercise and standing and movement rings and daily weekly and monthly charts. I’d there a way to do this?
I like this idea... I think this could go one step further to include times. Just as a friendly reminder of did you complete the task.
Totally could. I have things that highlight reminders with due dates/times on them, and this would be too much clutter for my workflow. If that’s not a problem, you could totally get reminded!
Thanks for the tutorial. I am going to try this. I have never done automation before.
I’m so excited to try this! Thank you for the follow-up and awesome solution 🎉
Thanks for the idea!
WWDC and a Colter video on the same day!! What a happy coincidence ❤
WWDC and a Sarah comment!
does the magnet harm the kindle in anyway?
As far as I can tell, no.
This is excellent content sir. Keep it up - helpful, comedic, smart, and we'll made.
I wish there was a way to automate this to remove the unchecking step.
There is! Here’s how: th-cam.com/video/SU4q2f7prRY/w-d-xo.html
😂😂😂
Relatable 😂
My first impressions of the ZSA was blown away the build quality feels great. But after a year when it kept breaking YIKES no thanks, its really difficult to switch back and forth while you are waiting for parts for the moonlander.
Yikes! Yeah, I’m going to give it a while and see how it holds up before I start playing with swapping out switches.
If you don't like rabbit holes... do 'not' search for the Svalboard split keyboard. It's very expensive, but wow! Even has a choice of builtin trackball or trackpoint (or both). You'll never have to take your hand off (out of) the keyboard, except to drink your coffee. If I start saving now I'll be ready to purchase in about five years 😞
I did come across that in the rabbit hole! I’m intrigued but decided it was a bridge too far. I mean, if one were to appear on my doorstep, I’d give it a try, absolutely, but I’m going to stick with the Moonlander for now.
@@ColterReed Intriguing it is. The problem with constantly swapping keyboards that are non-standard; you never become expert in a single model. All that practice cast aside as you're ready to start learning another. If I had the Svalboard my lovely Moonlander would end up on eBay. One weird keyboard will always be enough for me. But, then what? The cycle is repeated when four years later another 'incredible' keyboard hits the market.
Great video! Nailed it!
When you say you travel with "the digital version of your planner" what do you mean? Is there a FFP app that goes with this? Or, do you use a different app? Thanks!
Currently, I’m using OmniFocus for tasks, Fantastical for calendaring, and Drafts for capturing notes on the go. I have heard there’s a FFP app coming, though…
Your literally burning up gas you aint saving shit😂😂😂😂
4 dollars, less the cost of 40 miles of gas. Which, depending on fuel economy and gas prices, may be more than 4 dollars.
.....he's in a tesla.
You gotta add in the cost of fuel and the cost your time.
Plus the added wear on the vehicle for miles of extra driving every time
Most people ignore those.
I only put Shell premium in my vehicle. I never switch brands, and only put Motul oil in my engine. I do have to drive across town because there's only one Shell in my city. But I care about the wear and tear my engine takes. Especially at 6000+ feet of elevation. It's not about savings. It's about what I think the best gas I can buy is.
Amsoil is great too.
ok, but thats a different issue, You are choosing that gas and oil for reasons other than financial savings.
@@sebastianrochefort6763 And that's the point I'm making. People should buy gas based on quality. Those that buy on price do so at the peril of their engine valves. Take costco gas as an example. I rarely hear someone say they are buying costco gas because it's one of the "top tier gas" brands. If you don't know what that is, google "top tier gas". It's a fuel standard that relates to how clean a fuel must burn to carry that label as well as a specific level of detergents in the fuel to make sure the valves and cylinder walls stay clean. To a smaller extent if any dirt gets in the gas stations fuel tank at the station, it helps keep that stuff clean too. But what you said is kind of the segue to what im saying. if you care about your vehicle, NEVER buy just based on cost or pay up for a valve job or a gummed up fuel pump and filter later. That's why I always recommend if someone doesn't like Shell or Chevron (my top 2 picks for quality fuel in the US), I recommend someone go to the top tier fuel website and look at the brands to pick one of those and stick with it. If they don't want to do that. Just only buy "top tier fuel" then. But never, ever just buy whatever's closest without thinking about that stuff or 20000 miles down the road, it could be an expensive trip to the mechanic.
Got me at warcraft lol
I feel this as someone who plays wow every day
I mean how much fuel are you wasting driving that far just to save a few bucks...
Some quick math… 10 miles round trip, let’s call that half a gallon. So you could easily add another $2 to the immediate cost. The wear and tear will add up, eventually.
and he's in a tesla 😂 😂 😂 😂
That makes it funnier
This dudes just filming arguments he wins with himself in the shower
Not the world of warcraft comment LMAO.
