Killarney - Solo Canoe Trip on Ruth Roy - P2 - Fall Colors Trip - Oct. 2024
I finally made it to Killarney in mid October. I was able to book a beautiful campsite on Ruth Roy, thinking it would be a simple trip. The water levels had another plan for me. It turned out to be quite an adventure, amongst beautiful fall colours, and gorgeous weather! On this adventure, I test out some new gear, do some exploring, get visited by some different creatures, and enjoy and prepare some delicious food.

    Love your video. You're lucky it was so warm out. I had 0C before Thanksgiving weekend! As for seeing your breath, your breath is warmer than the surrounding air. This causes the water vapour in your breath to condense into tiny water droplets.

    As winter conditions are settling in I am happy to see this reminder of the season of the canoe. At 75 I never know if I'll be well enough for next seasons tenting. Last spring a knee problem shut me down until late July. But now I'm very active hiking the lakeside ridges far enough away from the noise of machines to hear the birds. Best wishes.

      Hey paavo! The strip was just over a month ago. It’s not that far away. We only got snow this weekend for the first time in Muskoka . But mother nature certainly did make up for being late. It was so nice to see Ruth Roy Lake and I'm happy you had those great conditions to enjoy it in. Brings me back to the couple of times we stayed on that Lake, the Portage was tricky but worth it I think the first time we stayed there we had a massive thunderstorm hit us just as we we were paddling to our site.

      Thanks so much. I’m not sure what’s going on? I’ve had a very very long week staying up till midnight Monday and Tuesday to make sure that those videos all got done. It took me forever to make this series and they should’ve been linked. I will check this morning and you should be good to go within a few hours. Sorry for the issue. Cheers.

      @CamperChristina no worries, it's technology at its finest, lol. Great morning for me. Now I can watch your beautiful videos and get away from looking out at the first snow of the year. Lol. Very much appreciate all your time and work on your videos. Have a wonderful day.

    I love your videos. I currently live in Northern California. I used to live in TGA back in the early 90s. My BF and I would get away to a friend's cottage on a lake near North Bay whenever we could. We would bathe in the lake and canoe over to the 'rock' for sunning, A couple of time we would portage over the various waterways that were available to us. I found paddling through the water vegetation most calming and peaceful. I find following you as you paddle most comforting.

      Awe!!!!! Thank you so very much for this wonderful comment. You totally made my day. It sounds like you spent time in a very magical place. You might want to check out my Temagami playlist if you haven’t found that already? There’s some pretty remote trips there that I think you would enjoy. Are you new to my channel ? Keep me posted. Pls. 😊

    Do you guy out stove pipes in either of your tents?

    • @CamperChristina
      @CamperChristina 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I use poles. I have 2 old aluminum tent poles with a metal wire attaching them that cradle the pipe and support it. It’s the same stove, same pipe, same setup that I use for both tents. I hope you enjoyed the video? Cheers 😊

    If you're feeling uneasy going somewhere then you're feeling uneasy and that's ok. You changed your plans and still went out, so you didn't let your anxiety get the better of you. Maybe next Thanksgiving you can try just an 'easy' short trip on your own and hopefully wean yourself back into feeling comfortable with Thanksgiving trips.

    Jenny's idea of a pot cozy is different. Hadn't thought of that before. The silver would reflect the heat back towards the pot. I may try that. Temperature looks similar to my Thanksgiving trip (1C overnight, high of 9C). Thanks for making the video posting.

    Normally, morel's hydrazine is eliminated by drying (and also by freezing) so you shouldn't really need to worry about it. On the other hand, cooking destroys morels' hemolysin, which is also toxic. Caution with the false morels (Gyromitra esculenta), which contains gyromitrin (poisonous). I think your old dented PTFE-coated aluminum frying pan is the most toxic part of your meal, especially when you scrape it so vigorously (23:38 😳). But that's just my opinion. Eating can be a very dangerous activity 😄 Nice adventure, thanks 😉

      Thanks for all the info. Didn’t really think about my frying pan like that. What do you suggest? Cheers

      @@CamperChristina I don't use aluminum, eloxed or otherwise, for cooking or anything else that involves food. This is a personal choice, because there are suspicions of brain damage (encephalopathy) linked to this metal. Type “aluminum + encephalopathy”, to see more. I use a stainless steel frying pan or, if it's too heavy, a stainless steel or titanium plate with a pan gripper (like the one you use with your titanium mug, in the video). A simple plate makes a very good pan, but sometimes it's too small. ATB 😊
