This is why we need to stop using professional athletes on our National team. You can't get young college kids or ordinary kids on teams like the basketball team. All full of the overhyped black players who use it for another mark of glory instead of playing for pride for their country.

I was 14. Had just got done roller skating in Lakewood NJ when I found out we beat the Russians. It was on Sunday afternoon I believe. It was on a tape delay so the game wasn't on to the best of my recollection. I believe the Russian team destroyed the NHL All-Stars. Only team Russians didn't destroy up to then we're the Philadelphia Flyers Broad Street Bullies. Unfortunately Herb never got to see the film
If they had only kept that guy maybe they would’ve beaten the Soviets easily instead of hanging on for dear life. U heard Herb he could flat out play handles the puck great vision of the ice soft hands. But he was let go all because of some corny family speech.
Ive almost wondered if he did that on purpose. Like picked that player out of the blue to see how the team would react. Either way, looks like he got the reaction he wanted.

The parallels were immense, and goes to show how ahead of the curb Herb was.

My team is NY Rangers, and cuz I love Henrik and always wanted to move to NY to pursue a career in dance. Hope someday I get to see my boys on the ice at MSG. ❤❤❤❤❤
Man, I used to hate tryouts...felt like a meat market, but looking back on it now, how else are you going to compare players with 100's of them out there.
Of any of the sports movies I've ever watched, this is probably the most moving scene for me. As a Badger fan, I can easily see Mark Johnson saying that. His Father was a great coach and even better man. Badger fans have been so blessed to have the Johnson family.
The only two scenes in a sports movie that comes is Gale Sayers making his speech in Brian's Song and about the four minute mark in the Rocky Apollo fight. That is instant teary eyed when the music starts.
"Im not looking for the best players Craig, I'm looking for the right ones" That is a true statement. A good team is not all about talent. You have to the right players to play the way you want to and be successful. I love that line, it is a true statement.

Herb Brooks would never tolerate any disrespect to the American flag. And Herb is right, the front of the jersey is way more important than the name on the back.

Knowing him, he'd probably send them all back to the locker room and not even let them play that game. I have multiple championship trophies in baseball, basketball, and softball in my later years. My teams that won those trophies were never the most talented. We were the best team because of our love for one another as a TEAM. Everybody picked up everybody else no matter what. We never had stars on those teams. The whole team was the star.

That was the finest moment for Team USA. Just qualifying for the team is tough enough, let alone winning the Gold.
