    This is why we need to stop using professional athletes on our National team. You can't get young college kids or ordinary kids on teams like the basketball team. All full of the overhyped black players who use it for another mark of glory instead of playing for pride for their country.

    Its amazing I write right handed but i shoot left. I play tennis left but i switch hit. I am a Southpaw but im comfortable Orthodox... Kurt Russell in all his roles is the epitome of what we are... it's not ambidextrous.... it's called cross dominance.

    Herb Brooks knew exactly what buttons to push. He even did it in the Olympics calling Rob McClanahan a pussy for having a hurt leg. The guy was a genius and it paid off.

    This actually happened that Herb brought in players late to try out for the team. The current players who had been with them from the start stood up together to say it's not fair to do this to this group. So Herb sent all the kids home he brought in late

    I was 14. Had just got done roller skating in Lakewood NJ when I found out we beat the Russians. It was on Sunday afternoon I believe. It was on a tape delay so the game wasn't on to the best of my recollection. I believe the Russian team destroyed the NHL All-Stars. Only team Russians didn't destroy up to then we're the Philadelphia Flyers Broad Street Bullies. Unfortunately Herb never got to see the film

    If they had only kept that guy maybe they would’ve beaten the Soviets easily instead of hanging on for dear life. U heard Herb he could flat out play handles the puck great vision of the ice soft hands. But he was let go all because of some corny family speech.

    Ive almost wondered if he did that on purpose. Like picked that player out of the blue to see how the team would react. Either way, looks like he got the reaction he wanted.

    Herb felt the pressure. It made a bear out of him for that time frame. I might have had equal trouble keeping my composure during such troubles. Took God's Grace then. It still does today. Herb Brooks, RIP.

    When Argentina won the world cup last year it was because the head coach had adopted a mentality similar to Herb's here: up to that point the national Soccer teams had been put together out of the "best" players. Scaloni, on the other hand, was looking for the "right" ones. And then he turned them into a team, playing for a common goal and not individual merit. The parallels were immense, and goes to show how ahead of the curb Herb was.

    Herb Brooks was an absolute genius head coach, of all sports, and a pioneer of using sports pyschology. Love studying him and the man who built the Mt Union football dynasty. They both knew how to develop/nuture team chemistry while pushing players right to the brink. Absolute legend

My team is NY Rangers, and cuz I love Henrik and always wanted to move to NY to pursue a career in dance. Hope someday I get to see my boys on the ice at MSG. ❤❤❤❤❤

    Of any of the sports movies I've ever watched, this is probably the most moving scene for me. As a Badger fan, I can easily see Mark Johnson saying that. His Father was a great coach and even better man. Badger fans have been so blessed to have the Johnson family.

      The only two scenes in a sports movie that comes is Gale Sayers making his speech in Brian's Song and about the four minute mark in the Rocky Apollo fight. That is instant teary eyed when the music starts.

    "Im not looking for the best players Craig, I'm looking for the right ones" That is a true statement. A good team is not all about talent. You have to the right players to play the way you want to and be successful. I love that line, it is a true statement.

    What if the right players are the best ones? Imagine if Herb Brooks saw his players kneel during the anthem before a game, he’d be so angry he would skate those players after the game. Herb Brooks would never tolerate any disrespect to the American flag. And Herb is right, the front of the jersey is way more important than the name on the back.

    • @CatieCass
      @CatieCass 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I think Herb would've done a lot more than just have them skate after the game if he saw them kneeling for the anthem. Knowing him, he'd probably send them all back to the locker room and not even let them play that game. There's a reason President Trump put a statue of Brooks in his National Garden of American Heroes.

      I really think Coach Brooks put a lot of faith in Mark Johnson. He was the son of one of Brooks' closest coaching rivals, Badger Bob Johnson. From what I seen and read, it was Mark Johnson getting mad and breaking his stick that actually ended the "again" herbies after the game with Norway.

    I have multiple championship trophies in baseball, basketball, and softball in my later years. My teams that won those trophies were never the most talented. We were the best team because of our love for one another as a TEAM. Everybody picked up everybody else no matter what. We never had stars on those teams. The whole team was the star.
