Mercedes SLK Tramlining cured
Had some pretty horrible tramlining where the direction of travel was severely affected by the camber of the road. This has been cured (mostly) by the replacement of aftermarket 18 inch wheels with factory 16 inch.

    The BAS ESP only lights up when the car gets up to speed ( around 10 miles/ hour) do you think it’s the same problem?

    • @chrisll
      @chrisll 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Possibly, but for you the good news is that it’s not going to fail an MOT if it only lights up at speed…

    Mine SLK R170 has both BAS/ASR and also ABS lights issue. It is the same sensor or fail of two sensors?

    • @chrisll
      @chrisll หลายเดือนก่อน

      That sounds like two different sensors to me. My approach would be to replace the BAS then check that’s cleared and move on to the ABS…

    Where are the fuses I should check before doing the rest of the job? Thanks for the excellent video!

    Would it not have been more prudent to test the heater motor first using your meter or puting 12 volts through it. Save buying what you dont need and if working for the same money you could have a new resistor (Which is usualy the cause, I have changed mine 3 times over the years and is normally in stock at most motor factors like Swedish, german & french or Euro car parts).

      I had a high level of confidence that the motor was dead before buying a replacement and the overall fix was cheap and efficient...

    Kommt man so auch uber den TÜV?

    • @elreico
      @elreico 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wenn das Lämpchen dann ausgeht und sonst nichts ist, kommst du über den TÜV. Leider bleibt bei meinem R170 auch noch die Motorkontrolllampe an, d.h. kein TÜV, aber Werkstatt...

    I'm looking into doing the blower motor on a slk230 left hand drive. I'd imagine it would be on the passenger side (right side)

    • @chrisll
      @chrisll 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As you say, I would certainly expect the same setup on the opposite side. It really is a very simple fix and I would encourage you to give it a shot. Do let me know how you get on…

    Thanks for this video I have been able to get the part number. It’s the same 2000 plate r170 320 just ordered it on eBay. Use the video later to fit it thanks very much

    Why was there water in there? And how do you fix that problem?

    • @chrisll
      @chrisll ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question… before the blower motor packed in I had a blocked front drain point (below windscreen and above gearbox) where leaves and debris had gathered. Accumulated rain water had over spilled into the passenger footwell which was the obvious cause. I had already fixed that a month before the blower motor issue!

      Hi Chris how did you fix that

  • @silver750iL
    @silver750iL 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve had codes read since and I’m told C1142. What do you know this is the lateral sensor.

    • @chrisll
      @chrisll 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perfect, easy fix for you then!

  • @silver750iL
    @silver750iL 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've just bought a 6 speed 2001 SLK320 (which by the sound of the engine you have Chris?). The BAS ESP came on today after a bit harsh accelerating in first gear. What is that sensor actually doing? Is it detecting some sort of body flex or something?

    • @chrisll
      @chrisll 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The BAS ESP light is initiated by the lateral acceleration sensor which measures the g-force from a turn and sends that information also to the ECU. The lateral acceleration sensor is essentially a steering angle sensor and detects then corrects the steering angle based on a variety of factors. A faulty sensor is usually the main cause of the light coming on but not the only one. I would go for the sensor first. I spent wasted time changing the brake sensor thinking that would be an easier fix but frankly, it was a pain and didn’t solve the issue!!!

    I have a 99 slk230 turn off headlights & car & close door & lights came back on. What can be problem??

    • @chrisll
      @chrisll 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Robert, I'm not familiar with this issue however it's worth a few fault diagnosis notes: - try switching the headlights to a park light position (further left either one or two clicks) and see if it still does it. If it does, it might be wiring, if not, possibly the switch... - Is the fault the same if you are in or out of the car? - The headlight control switch is adjacent to the door close point, try applying pressure to the side with the door open and seeing if the lights go on - ultimately it's down to either the wiring or the switch. The easiest (and cheapest) route is to change the switch. I've removed mine before and its pretty easy to do. All that's needed is to remove the lower panelling beneath the steering wheel and access is straightforward. - An old trick for this type of thing is to remove and replace the same switch and you MAY find that by disturbing the connections it fixes the problem. A very inexpensive first pass. - Also worth dismantling the panelling and dislodge the switch then before disconnecting see if the problem still appears. It maybe that there is a wire trapped somewhere. Anyway, good luck, I hope this has given you some ideas to look at a fix. Please let me know what you find!

    I don't suppose you caught any images of where the blend door was when you had the blower out? My blend door actuator wont switch to cool so my air con is not getting to the vents. Tested the air con system and that's all nicely pressured up and gets ice cold but inside the car we're only getting hot air. I'm assuming the blend door will be just by the blower you removed?!

    • @chrisll
      @chrisll 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paul, sorry, I didn't capture that. However, its only a few screws to drop the blower motor so it shouldn't be too much of a pain for you to gain access and find out... Good luck...
