First time I like an explanation, I do have my CQ20, and this really help a lot…btw, I use Gain Asst and test the voice level of the Singer, is Auto Gain better?
Thx for the video. Do you record the processed backing track on the CQ SD card?
Yes. I usually record in the 'post preamp' mode so I can mix later on... This means none of the mixers effects are applied to the SD Card recording.
Great video. Thank you! Waiting on my delivery of my CQ-18T. Will come back to this video for sure 👍
Wow excellent tips! Is there a way to do mix-minus for zoom calls or remote guest on a show? Is there a way to duplicate mainLR to outputs including post-AMM?
You can do a mix minus using the AUX Outputs paired in Stereo. Not sure about duplicating the main LR with post AMM engaged...
@crosslylucas I did a test last night. And noticed that when AMM is engaged, is also affects the outputs 1-6, it's great, I'm happy with this mixer
Thanks for the great video. I’m planning to buy a cq18t but I want to kniw something before : what happens to the outputs 19 to 22 of the daw? Output 1 to 18 are routed to the cq channels, but the other ones? Maybe the last pairs goes directly to the main LR output? Same question for the 19 to 24 channels of the sd card multitrack playback, please. Thank you.
Short to the points. Thank for sharing.
Can effects be uploaded to this mixer?

Excuse me,one question: if I record in the usb stick and first modify the settings of the usb channel ( compressor, gate,eq) are the usb settings present in the recording? Thanks
Hi, this depends on the source point of the recording... If the source point is set to 'post preamp', none of the settings will be recorded. But if the source point is set to 'post AMM' all settings will be recorded on the recording. The source point can be changed under config> USB/SD> Source point...

Hello and thanks, I just learn to use the CQ18T and I am astonished that I lose channels 1&2 to Stereo out and I cannot use more than 14 channels for instant recording if I need to hear it out from the DAZ/LOGIC PRO??? I dont seem to be able to change Stereo Out from my recording song to CQ:s MAster out on channels 23/24, can you explain why? This is a big minus for both products I feel now...☹ No offence to you thanks for the video! I refer to this moment on your video at: 01:18: th-cam.com/video/AQR2bkhZzFc/w-d-xo.html
I’m looking forward to the video about mixing a live band! I’m happy how easy this mixer is to use, but the more advice the better 👍
As a new owner of a CQ18, I appreciate any and all help in understanding how to best work this mixer. I'm a drummer in a cover band and have done some live sound and recording for the group.
Can you make a tutorial on how to make a midi work with this for changing scenes per song. Or using Elgato Stream Deck + to control fader and such?
Hi! have you ever tried using a MIDI to control like changing scene per song or something similar? would love a tutorial similar to that.
I've been looking at the documentation from allen and heath regarding this... I will make a video as soon as I figure it out.
What keyboard?
Could you possibly do an explanation of the midi capabilities and an explanation of how to send midi messages to the CQ? Your tutorials are great. Basically, I am trying to send a midi program change from our backing tracks to the CQ to change the mixer scene based on the song we are playing. I am sure it can do it but really struggling with getting it to work.
This is a bit advance for me... I've been looking at the documentation from allen and heath but it will take some time. It's a very cool idea, just a hastle to set up I think.
Any idea why we can't connect our android phones to the mixer? It works with iphones, ipad and windows but not android so far.
@@CinderB That's very odd. I've used my android phone to connect and it works fine... Maybe reinstall the app?
Another brilliant video - thank you! You’re very talented.
This is just a glorified mixer okay a great mixer, forget about trying multitrack etc, this is extra feature because other mixers have it, but until a multitrack recording mixer target the pro world, leave this alone and get you a rel Audio Interface with better converters and ad da converter, sorry Allen and Health unless you work on a new product for studio or standalone multitrack with DAW OS but you too scared to do that, because you all assume the computer is the main way to do multitrck, really?
This is a fine recorder for doing sound checks and to record a rehearsal for instance, or conference meetings. Nobody expects to record the next pop stars platinum selling live performance hahahaha!
Thank you !

Which will sounds better ZED420 Or CQ18T? Advice please
Thanks for the tips. Simplifies things 100%.
You're welcome!
Very cool. I learned a lot. But can you make a video on how to use an RTA microphone with what you were going over here in this video. My only experience with an RTA microphone is using one with a DBX Driverack for auto EQing. And if you are up to it, as I am a brand, new beginner with digital mixers, if you made a video that starts at simply turning on this mixer, and how to begin setting up a brand, new scene, simply for microphone inputs… Not an entire band of instruments. Just begin with microphones. That would be an immense help! Bless you!
Great vid, thank you! Love to see you mix a band. Especially for bass guitar, from amp and/or DI.
Is there a way to adjust the track only in house while keeping the streaming sound the same?
@@angelosalas6721 The streaming mix through the USB port is the same as the front out house mix. I don't think there's a way to send a separate mix through the front of house...
Exuse me, im italian and i dont understand the dialogues well in english.for a piano and vocal duo who wants to record on AN sd without using a pc but wants a professional recording what can you tell me about the preamps ,converters, and voice effects? Are they professional? How is the sound quality in sd recording? Thanks
Hi, it's possible to record a high quality recording on the SD card. The audio format is industry standard: 24bit @48kHz (and can be changed to 96kHz for higher quality). The preamps and converters are clean and do not introduce any artificial or noise when recording. The built in voice effects are user-friendly and sound really good. However, it's not possible to overdub on this mixer as this mixer is not meant to be a DAW replacement.
@@crosslylucas so it's not possible to record a track and listen to it while recording another?(multitrack).do you have to work and record only live?
@@levonlooper5812 No, it's not possible to listen and record another track at the same time...
hi, which is better a&h CQ18 vs yamaha dm3 ? and what are the differences and what about in built plugins which are bettter?
Hi, I think the CQ18T is good if you're looking for a versatile and compact digital mixer. The DM3 is heavier but useful for live shows as it has physical faders. The built in plugins of the CQ mixers are very versatile, and it seems like the DM3 has similar plugins. But the main difference is the physical faders (and the price).
As singer....I miss my reverb in this tutorial
Hi, I'm working on a video that shows how to use the processing page with vocals. I will touch on reverb and delay plugins, is there anything specific that you would like to know?
@@crosslylucas WOW...appreciate your question. So it would be great some tutorial of mixing a band live. Including effects. I know...is not easy. TY for you good job. New SUS here.

This is useful real world application info. I figured out a few of these in the field…the hard way. The first event I did we had feedback caused by a band mate placing his ac guitar next to his monitor, unbeknownst to me. It howled. I was horrified. I couldn’t tell what speakers were howling. Monitors or Main LR? Using the CQ is different for me than the QU/SQ/Avantis. Touchscreens, no matter how good they are, haven’t felt as stable for me as hardware in terms of aiding me to quickly troubleshoot problems by manipulating channel mutes/faders. Touchscreens require delicate and precise muscle motor skills…when I am in a rapidly escalating panic loop, this requirement is unhelpful in my troubleshooting process. The next day I thought it through after binge watching CQ features, and developed a plan (in addition to telling the bandmate to never place his guitar next to any speaker, and giving him a mute pedal for when he puts down the gtr and starts playing his mandolin…probably need sound hole muffler too). Panic muting! Those soft keys are meant for quick access, therefore very valuable real estate on the CQ face. Originally I undervalued their worth. Seeing as though feedback is my #1 concern as a live sound guy, it only made sense to use the limited hardware that is available on the unit to address this. (Feedback assistant is another layer of security for sure, but not one I want to 100% rely on for avoiding feedback). Would be a bonus to have at least 3 more soft keys for tap tempo and effects send mute for fx1 and fx2 like I was doing before this incident. But again, when forced to choose what to use them for, hands down it is to eliminate the thing that makes the band and crowd breathe fire at the sound guy above everything else…feedback. Hence the term panic muting. Alternatively I assigned DCA’s for fx and put them on the custom layer and can mute them, or turn them up or down when I need to. Much prefer using touchscreen for those than potentially searching through layers for panic muting. Btw, DCA’s and everything else I need on a single custom layer I think is the biggest leverage you can get out of any CQ configuration. Designing each show to be able to avoid having to change layers/tabs as much as possible equals stability for me. Then rehearsing that configuration gives you the muscle memory to solve problems faster than you otherwise would be able to in the heat of the moment. Rehearse your configuration! My panic muting configuration is a little different though. First soft key mutes Outputs 1-6 (all monitors), second soft key mutes LR Main, and third soft key mutes all microphone source channels. This gives me a quick way to troubleshoot feedback in realtime. For instance, when I rehearsed the feedback scenario in my mind, given the new soft key configuration, I would have probably first muted the mics, discovered that didn’t fix it (panicked), then maybe tried the mains, same thing (panicked more), then monitors which would have fixed it, indicating an issue with monitors caused by something other than mics, at which point I could unmute mics, unmute LR Mains, letting the show go on, and left the monitors muted temporarily. Getting to this point would have stopped the panic loop, and gave me the clarity of mind to track down the root cause. Then I could rationally look around for what non mic source caused monitor feedback. At that point I probably would have noticed the ac gtr next to the monitor. Then tested it out by muting that channel, bringing the monitor back up slowly. It would have been worse if the ac gtr was feeding back through the mains because the show couldn’t have gone on until I figured the whole thing out right then and there. How I ended up resolving it was eventually turning down mains and monitors and bringing the mains back up timidly, discovering the feedback was gone. This was before I had the firmware update where DCA’s got added, so I was having to individually turn down each of the 3 monitor out faders and LR Mains fader. The show took an obvious pause. It wasn’t until I listened to the recording later that night that I discovered feedback on the ac gtr channel only…which is what I suspected by the end of the show.
greetings from Bali friend. is it possible to record with an android smartphone?
Yes, it's possible to stereo record on a phone through the USB port. However, Multitrack recording is not possible...
Good morning, in your opinion is it possible to do everything with this machine cq 12t without going through a DAW? Record multitrack and do post production inside and then put everything on the SD card? How is the final sound quality if not, it doesn't use or goes through the PC?How are the multi-effects? Compressors, reverbs and vocal effects? converters and mic preamps? I'm looking for something pretty definitive. Have you tried the yamaha dm3s? Thanks a lot
Hi, unfortunately there is no way to overdub on the CQ series mixers, so it is not possible to use the mixer as a DAW. The mixer can record the direct input signal from the preamps, which can then be mixed in a DAW. The preamps are high quality and the built-in effects are very versatile. I have not tried the DM3, but from looking online, the physical faders look very interesting.
This question is what someone needs to answer, why does everything has to depemd on the traditional computer. it would have sold millions if the multitrqk recording ability could also edit, just like a DAW, tech is sooooo backward
Absolutely fantastic content sir. ❤ would you recommend this or the Yamaha DM3? I will be using it for studio, multi track, recording, and gigs. I can learn to live without the physical faders. I'll be curious to know your thoughts on that. Thanks again for the content!🎉
Hi, just looking at the reviews online, I think for multitrack recording and studio work both mixers are amazing and offer the same or similar digital features. However, for gigging I would probably lean towards the DM3 as the physical faders make setting fader levels much easier and more intuitive. The other aspect to consider is portability, and although both mixers are very compact, the CQ18T is much more portable. Between the CQ18T and the DM3: If you're going to be doing a lot of live mixing, I'd definitely go for the DM3. But if you're looking for something more affordable and compact, the CQ18T is the way to go. Hope that helps...
@@crosslylucas😊 Thanks sir! I ended up buying the CQ-18t on the basis of sound and portability. I already have an MG16XU and the boomy sound is noticeable between it and the allen and heath stuff. Sampling lots of online stuff it is consistent into that DM3 line. I would say the sound difference is similar to a Mackie vs QSC Boom boom dance or boom boom smooth/clean.
After recording onto USB A drive, How or Can I edit the name of the file on the mixer???
Unfortunately no, there's no way to rename the USB or Multitrack recordings on the mixer :(
Good Day Sir!!! Sooo?? I can't record Stereo tracks onto the SD card?? And when I use the Mukti track feature for recording onto SD card, I don't see my Stereo Input available??? Worse case scenario, I'll record my stereo track onto a USB flash drive...
Hi, it is possible to stereo record the whole mix on the SD Card. This can be done through the assign section under config > USB page. 17/18 are assigned as 'Stereo In' and 23/24 are the 'main left and right'. You should be able to arm them in the multitrack section of the recording page.
@@crosslylucas Thanks, I'll check that out...
