Many thanks for all this information!!
I am slowly building a 330. Are using 1 1/4" angle for both the slides and the grates? Or are the grates 1" angle? Thanks for your time. Thanks for the bands for doors they worked great. I appreciate your videos.
I use 1.25" angle 0:20 for everything. 1" is too weak and will sag over time. I use 3/16" thick material.
@mikencrcf6018 Thanks! I appreciate the videos. Grates are being built this weekend. I am building a 288. Thanks again !
Very nice I have a lot of the same the issue is real estate I just don't have the room otherwise i would say critical a level floor with plenty of room for all the tools or about what you have going perfect size.
Are you putting the grate 1” above center line?
1.25" actually. The grate slides are at the center line. The grates are 1.25" tall and they sit on the slides.
What is the length of the table? I am 21 and bought a welder to learn how to build my own projects.

how to tell if an air compressor tank is galvanized or safe for cooking
Thank you for all you do sir! I'll be reaching out to you here soon once I get my build going
Thanks! I'll be here. Keep in mind that I offer full build kits as well if sourcing components becomes problematic and getting to Georgia is an option.
Hey Mike, firstly. Love your videos they have been so helpful to me while building my smoker. A joy to watch. I have a question regarding cook chamber to firebox ratio. I’m building a smoker at the moment, I’m reading a lot. Guys on the smoking forums are very rigid about the firebox being 1/3 of your cook chamber. Some saying you’ll “ruin your smoker” if you do anything but the 1/3 rule. The pipes I have available to me will make a smoker with a 300 gallon chamber with a 68 gallon firebox. If my math is correct your firebox would also be classed as “undersized”. If so, is there a reason for this? Should I be as concerned about my ratio as the forum dwellers say? As an experienced smoker and smoker builder I’d really appreciate your advice.
@lunchforlouie 1. Forget the feldons and other calculators which recommend 1/3" or any other ratio. That stuff is garbage f8r anything over 80g. Contact me via email address Mysticsmokers@gmail.com and i will give a phone number there.
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯 missed these videos
I'll try to do better. I've just been super busy. Thanks for your support. It means a lot.
@ No problem sir you have a business to run. I get it. Your videos are so full of knowledge and detail. I modified my first out which I’m giving to a friend. My next one is going to be completely from the ground up. I have two rack frames done. Two stacks cut. Two collectors cut and welded. I need to build a tank roller like you have so I can cut the tanks and roll them as I cut.
Hi Mike, As always appreciate your videos. Quick question, what are the dimensions of the fire box?
@deadapple7942 Thanks buddy!
24"×30"×3/8"
What are the dimensions for this firebox
@@jamesbradley9288 The fb is 24"×30"×3/8" wall thickness. If you have problems sourcing components, keep in mind that mysticsmokers.com offers any component needed from full build kits, all the way down to a single hinge.
What welder do you use and what model
Millermatic 255. Running. 35 wire and 90/10 gas. I run straight mig about the time and pulse mig the remainder.
Hi Mike, Your videos have been an amazing help! If you could have the optimal gauge of steel for the smoke barrel, what would that be?
Great question. Here's my favorite for each component. Cook chamber 1/4" Firebox 3/8" Collector 1/4" Stack schedule #10 These are all a compromise between weight, heat retention, and ease of cut. I can tolerate a bit thicker cc, but not by much. I've built several 3/8" systems and found no advantage. It's just harder to cut and the doors are 30% heavier.
@@mysticsmokers3014 Thanks Mike, that's great. Last one from, but what's the widest diameter that you would tackle for a smoker? Is 47 inches too wide for a cook chamber?
Maybe i just didn't hear it, but what size tubing did you use to build this? I'd buy a set of plans for it if you had them!
What thickness are the bands? I must of missed this
@conradanderson404 Mysticsmokers bands are 1/4"x2" . Anything smaller or thinner is a waste of time and money in my experience.

@@hectorrapalo7222 Sadly, I can't get the option to translate your comment. Perhaps someone can help with that.
why offset the fire box at all if you are directing the heat up anyway?
Maybe adding a slightly angled metal insert all the way across the inside would allow for the smoke to travel under the metal heating the metal evenly for heat to rise and allow the smoke to come up the other end coming back across the meat to smoke it and then on out the chimney You can lower your fire box a little bit
Do you mean make a reverse flow cooker? I do make those as well. They come with benefits and drawbacks.
Does the 3.5 from top dead center apply to a 120g as well?
No. Since the radius is so much tighter on a 24" diameter, coming down that far can make the top grate shorter. I come down 2 inches on 120/150g cookers.
@ what distance would you suggest?
2 inches for 24" diameter tanks@@oscargideon5737
@@mysticsmokers3014 thank you sir!

Why not a 90 degree elbow directly out of tank ??
@recentlyretired I used elbows for many years. Ultimately, I learned through a lot of experimentation and trial and error just how much more efficient a properly designed collector actually is at moving air. Fluids (air is a fluid) hate to enter a flat hole. The close we can approximate a funnel, the better. Elbows are cheaper and far easier to install. If there wasn't a significant difference, I would still be using Elbows. Cutting a simple round hole and welding it in place literally takes minutes.

I appreciate the kind words. I'm editing a remake of the layout video now. It may hit TH-cam tonight.
How do you perg your tanks
This is my method: 1. Make sure it's empty. 2. Remove the valves and vents. 3. Dump one gallon of cheap dish soap inside. 4. Add one quart or so of bleach and fill it about 5 or 6 inches with water. It's just enough to cover the bottom good. That's where all the greasy mercaptan will have settled to. This step will pay off later. 5. Allow to sit for a few days if you have time. If you can pull it around on a trailer, that helps shake the soap up. Otherwise, reach in with a broom handle and stir a few times. 6. Fill to overflowing with water while on level ground. Make sure the water completely fills the tank and flows out the top. 7. Sometimes, I like to use a carbide holesaw and drill a 4 inch hole where my collector will be. That allows me to put a pressure wash wand in there and help flush that mercaptan off the bottom surface where it settled over the years. Use a cordless drill to avoid electrocution!!!! 8. Drain and begin your tank layout process. Watch my video series for tips and ideas. th-cam.com/play/PLOAnrxoOXhlcen4bnoxXA1KwQM6aUkyQP.html&si=S98fgMtBNbfSa3v1

I’m curious about the title of the trailer. Do you get a title just based on the trailer itself or do you get a title based on the entire thing being completed as it is one full unit?

What?
Have you tried combining the collector box with a 90 degree elbow? If you re-worked your template, you could probably find a good way to fit them within each other and get the best of both worlds. I plan to try that with an upcoming build, and will likely use your templates as my starter..
