    So, when you switch the light off at the wall switch, light goes off. Then you switch the light on via the Shelly. Switch position is in off, do you have to switch on and off at the wall switch to turn off the light then?

    • @MrBrandenS
      @MrBrandenS 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. They have different modes that you can toggle in the software.

    • @RussSchampers
      @RussSchampers ปีที่แล้ว

      it's completely up to you. There are enough options in the menu you get to decide. One option would allow you to turn the light off by just flicking up. A different option allows you to enforce the physical "up" position is on and "down" is off. If you select the latter option you would have to flip the switch up then down again. I personally went with athom smart switches (come pre installed with tasmota) to avoid all that but I am looking into these shelly relays based on a friends suggestion. Whether you go smart switch or smart relay you're going to have fun fitting the stuff back in the box :)

    Thank you for your video. I bought Qty (2) shelly 1+ and Qty (2) Shelly 2.5. The videos that shelly has do not in my opinion explain well enough. Every other video I have seen not from shelly are using wiring in Europe or the middle easy, and rarely have audio other than some cheesy music. It was awesome to see this installed on North American wiring and having someone explain it as they go. 😀

    A few days ago I made a post of thanks for the video. After installing the Shelly 1pm to control a light switch using a motion detector triggering mechanism everything seemed to work. But now that the Shelly has been installed for a few days I noticed a problem. When I turn on the light manually it will only stay on only as long as the motion detector is detecting motion. This tells me the wiring, as described, is not quite correct if you want to be able to manually turn on the light and keep it on as long as you want. So, just a word of caution.

    • @diyconnectedhome6102
      @diyconnectedhome6102 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know what the problem would be, I've had my 50+ Shelly's wired like I have shown for over a year with no problems. I have some on motion sensors and timers also.

    • @diyconnectedhome6102
      @diyconnectedhome6102 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it might be more in how the motion detector is communicating with the system.

    • @diyconnectedhome6102
      @diyconnectedhome6102 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a motion sensor in my pantry so I just tested it out. The light does in fact turn off once the motion sensor is triggered and no longers picks up motion. I still feel the shelly is wired correctly and is functioning as it should. Maybe you can get around the motion trigger with an ifttt program to keep the light on.

      There are better dedicated fan control modules available, which you wire into the fan (hide it in the surround at the top of the fan downrod) and let you control both the fan speed and light remotely. The Sonoff iFan04 seems to be the popular choice, and costs less than a Shelly.

      Until I can make a video, What I did was simply delete the switch and the 2 wires that went to the switch and it worked perfectly. I my case my light fixture box had a power wire going in and a power wire continuing on with wires to the light fixture. So the wiring looked just like the video minus the switch wires and switch.

    For a switch on a 15a breaker, how do you justify in terms of safety the shelly 2.5's 10a rating?

    • @gamechannel1271
      @gamechannel1271 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It controls 10a per channel. In other words, each of those red wires that connect to two devices can draw 10a. If you're drawing more than 10a for a single light source, you've got bigger problems.

    These devices are designed terribly. There is no reason I should have to feed the device with 2 hot wires, and send another hot wire to the switch. It should be 1 hot wire to the device, and then a wire from the device to the switch, and a wire from the switch to the device. My gang box looks like a fucking abomination right now. • @61JWolf

      There is a diagram included in the box. Neutral is connected as described in this video. The L and I terminals on the Shelly1 can be connected to a 4 way connector along with one terminal of the switch and the line (input) black wire. The SW terminal on the Shelly1 is connected to the opposite terminal of the switch. The O terminal on the Shelly1 is connected to the black wire going to the load (output).

    Not the recommended way to connect these devices. The Manufacturer outlines "L" goes to hot and "LI" goes to hot side of switch. Not sure your results but wanted to make sure viewers understand you are explaining outside of recommendations. One would assume "L" and "LI" to be a power bridge but I cannot confirm as I have not disassembled any. Your method also increases wire density in box.
