In a village shrine, there is a small oratory, whose copper roof top has been damaged by acid rainwater passing through ceder leaves (ceder leaves have this effect). We climbed this tree and chopped off dozens of branches by mixing Japanese and Western tree climbing skills. It required minute attention as branches should not damage the rooftop nor the aerial telephone line just next. 村の神社に小さなお堂...
Forest activity class for kids 森林学習でブリ縄

A local forest club organized a half-day program for kids. After making chairs, we taught "Buri-nawa" Japanese traditional tree climbing. Tightening ropes around the trunk on rather unstable foothold was difficult for small kids, but we instructors think they still managed well. The youngest was 8 years old. In our forest adventure park we offer various workshops to learn different techniques. ...

Buri-nawa Japanese traditional conifer tree climbing ブリ縄木登りテクニック

Before introduction of the American tree climbing, Japanese tree workers have been using a rope and two sticks to climb conifer trees for work. In the mountainous Hida region, we are trying to revive this tradition by organizing workshops. Please note that this is just one of the many Buri-nawa techniques, a variation which we consider as good compromise between efficiency and security. Tree pr...

      Are you the arborist that cut my beanstalk tree down? Now I can't climb up into the clouds and see what's going on in the giant's castle. My mom is very angry because I used to find gold and other valuables in the castle. We are very poor and hungry. I hope you have some magic beans to plant so we can replace the one that was hat racked. I've been looking for the tree service that cut my magic beanstalk tree down without permission.

    Cool idea, I am going to try it for placing tree stands. During scouting season I like to try different methods for accessing stand. Patience is the main virtue in hunting so this fits into my paradigm.

    I like this, nice and simple. Don't need to buy anything. But I would use more sticks. Because you would have to do it all again on the way down. Unless there is a faster way down not shown in this video.

      Peter Thomas The professionals who did not have any climbing harness used only a rope and 2 sticks, like in this video, and they climbed up and down much quicker than us for pruning. They had many trees to prune within limited time so they were very efficient. This does not mean that we do this all the time, but it is a useful technique when we do not have any tools.

    I can't believe all the hate in the comments. This is something that people used before lanyards and saddles and SRT, DRT, DdRT, spikes, whatever. This guy is demonstrating how to get to the top of a tree with very short pieces of rope and a couple sticks, and half of you are hating on this guy! What's the point? He knows there are faster ways! He just wants people to see how they did it in 14th century Japan or whenever this technique was used.

      Right on. I harvest chaga mushrooms. Sometimes they are a little to high for my pole saw to reach. I have gaffs and srt gear but 1. I don't like to gaff live trees . 2. on state and federal land it's illegal. 3. the last monster chaga I found that was out of reach the trees first branch was about 40' up. This method is brilliant. Great skill to know as well.

    I would have liked to see that from ground up maybe 4 or 5 steps I appreciate tradition There is another way to climb tree without spikes feed line around tree thru an eye down to foot stirrups do this2 times then raise one step up raise the other step up some like to have a strap around at knee height to control the step lines better ..... It's safer if you use a waist belt and lanyard around the tree up high

    @Iwannabaja 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    actually i see some practical use for this. as a certified arborist and aspiring tree climber, they say that if you are going to prune a tree then you are not alowed to use spikes because it would damage the tree. unless there is no other means of being able to climb the tree, or you can use the spikes if the tree happes to have really thick bark and the spikes would just not reach deep enough to harm the tree. however if climbing a tree that is too high for your throw ball to reach up to the first branch and there is no way to get a boom to the tree to lift a climber up to the first branch to set a rope, and if the bark is to thin and the tree would be damaged by spikes like litterally every single tree would be around where i live, then here is the alternative to climbing a tree with no low enough branches for your throw ball to reach. of course in most situations this would not be of practical means. how ever, here is a potenial solution.

    • @Iwannabaja
      @Iwannabaja 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      of course someone would have to really love there tree and pay extra to have some one climb there tree like this if this was the only method. except my parents. they are my first customer. i do there work for free. haha
