I grew up on the 1949 8n my grandfather had. He died before I was born and dad took over the farm. Head gasket went out and dad would never get it fixed. Sat for 6-8 yrs. Around 5 years ago, I bought a 1950 8n off a guys driveway. Worked for a couple of years and broke. A friend said he could fix it so took it to his place and it sat, and sat, and sat..... so I bought a 1951 8n off an online auction and used the last few years. My friend finally fixed my 1950 after it sitting for 2.5 years, and no one would do the head gasket job on the 1949 so I did my research and learned what to do and did everything and was successful. Got it done and everything fixed and back together this last December. We had a 50-degree weekend, and I finished it, and she ran like a gem. I'm thrilled they are all fixed and will continue to use them all. The 8n is one of the best tractors of all time.

Why are the carburetor hard to adjust

If you are mechanically inclined, they are SUPER easy. I can do basic mechanical stuff, but I have never been shown how to properly adjust them, so for me it's difficult.

Great job! Wondering if you were able to reuse most or all of the original screws and such or did you have to fine substitutions and what ever happened with the firebox. I have just purchased an old Stewart stove in pretty good shape other than just pieces in the firebox and not really sure what the original set up and structure was supposed to be. Any recommendations for resources?

Very descriptive and correct. The Ford 8 and 9 N’s are easy to repair and parts are plentiful. I think this Tractor was probably The most common in the United States and Canada.

My grandparents farm of 11 acres was all farmed with a 8n, ran 2 row corn picker, cut rake and bale hay, plow 4 acres, disc 4 acres, bring in wood, pull fence posts out, plow snow, run 2 row corn planter, bushhog pasture, run manure spreader, for nearly 60 yrs and never had a problem other than generator rebuilt, plugs, change oil, a tire or two..

I have a piglet that I raised from week 1. the mother died. the rest of the siblings died as a result. this one piglet made it. half kunekune, half meishan. it's the most adorable piglet ever. she wants to play fight me most of the time. I was really interested to see what she would look like at maturity.

I cut a piece of steel diamond plate to line one of my woodstoves. I was not happy with the draw of the stove so I lined the inside of the box to reduce the inside volume of the stove box. I also used fire-caulk on the inside seams to control leakage of air and smoke. It Works fine.. I haven't used it in a few years. If we get enough cold weather I hope to fire it up this winter. I will have to check the box for leaks and run a brush through the pipe. Thanks for the video.

I have worked on a few woodstoves. .i take them apart. Sometimes the bolts break off but they are easily replaced. Sometimes I had to cut them off with a saws-all. I wire-brush the parts with a wire-wheel in a drill. Then I put a couple of coats of high heat bbq grill paint on the parts so they don't immediately start rusting again. Don't over tighten the nuts when you re-assemble it.. Give it room to expand and contract as it heats and cools i think that's how most parts get cracked or broken. One fellow stove restorer uses a high temp gasket material between the parts. I have a like new four burner stove That I want to take apart and put gasket material in before I fire it up. I will have to find a source for double lined stainless steel stove pipe for the going through the attic part of the installation. Lots of fun restoring stoves. Thanks for the video

Great video. How hard was it to disasemble the stove? I have to partially disasemble one to make it light enough to get it across a lake and up a hill to a lake access cottage.

Don't be afraid of the old Ford or John Deere tractors, the rest can be a bear to find parts for. I started out 50 years ago with a 9n Ford and used it for everything from pulling down an old barn to plowing 20 acres. I cut and bailed hay with it, put in my garden with it, hauled hay, and dug a pond. That tractor is long gone, but a few weeks ago I bought two 8n fords, One for $600 and one with a loader for $700. Neither ran until I put in new gas, a battery, and a set of spark plugs. They both cranked right up and ran like new.

Thanks for the tip on the antique stove restorers! I just bought an old Home Comfort in very rough condition for $150. The guy claimed he’d been using it in his cabin until recently, but we’ll see. It’s going to need a lot of work to get it back to usable condition

IMHO the 8 N is too fast for a PTO tiller. Wish they had a lower gear. I use mine to brush hog, back blade and pull trailers or a carryall for firewood. Great little tractor for sure! I changed my oil filter to a spin filter using a conversion kit. Just put new back tires on it last year.

the only problem with the 2N, the 9N, the 8N and the Jubilee is that there were too many greedy junk dealers during the 70s, early 80s, they scraped thousands of them for a few bucks. sad, but these tractors replaced millions of horses.
