loved your explanation bro.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Awesome, clear explanations!
Very clear & easy to understand 👍
Thank you for doing what you keep doing. You're very clear and explain it in such a simple way it's easy to understand.
Thanks for the support. I'm thinking of other topics that might be of interest. Anything you have in mind?
@@thecharleschowNo problem! You provide good content. 😊 Totally, if you mean specifically on Nas/San... You can do total playlists on specific Nas distros. Like truenas, unraid, or openmediavault for examples. If you mean outside of nas/San but still related, you can do videos on networking like unifi routers/switches specifically or just generally how switches, routers, and modems work. Third, you can cover more cyber security topics. What topics did you have in mind?
@@KirbyTank great suggestions. Let me have a go at some of the topics u mentioned. I've been wanting to check out Unraid for a while.

I respect the points you’re making, but they are very much not reflecting the reality of what is happening out there. As a VMware partner, I can tell you that while organisations don’t want to move, they have to and very much have been. You give an example cost increases of 1.5%, you need to stick a few zeros on that. Take education or a charity, a renewal was a partner price of around €37. Now, €3950. So no, bundles do not make any sense when it pushes the price up that much. Small businesses, education and charity simply can’t afford that. You also mention the sleeping partners. What about distributors. Our one and only distributor in Ireland has been dropped. We now have to buy through the UK. I could write an essay about the disruption this has caused. I’m on the ground representing a few hundred customers, this is anything but a bump in the road.
Unfortunately, the nature of the beast of Broadcom is as such. Their target customer is not small and medium enterprises. If customers are looking to buy a couple of licenses, theres many other smaller hypervisors they can look at. While not great for partners and customers, the move to subscription will also completely kill the partners if not today but it will in time to come. In order for partners to survive that, as always it is crucial for them to provide value added services. I won't comment to the termination of the partner in Ireland because I'm unfamiliar but I've seen termination of partners elsewhere because some just don't do a whole lot other than taking a cut from a transaction. Having said that, I do see this as an opportunity for partners to step up in certain areas. As part of the reorganisation, Broadcom is shutting down Vmware offices in many countries, many of which has sizeable install bases. Skilful partners can potentially work with Broadcom to be a services partner / reseller in those areas to provide high valued services. As for customers, they will have to decide if it makes sense to continue running a premium product like Vmware or even go 100% cloud. For years prior to the acquisition, Vmware have been trying to get SMBs to buy into the rest of the stack beyond vSphere but there just isn't traction. There's just isn't enough meat on the bone to keep a sales organisation afloat to just sell vanilla vSphere unfortunately.
@@thecharleschow I suppose we'll see how realistic their approach is if it is as you say. Take Ireland, other than a few multinationals taking advantage of welcome tax breaks, there's no enterprise here, its all SMB. I doubt the cumulative value is worth nothing. Besides, its not just vSphere. Horizon was dropped from all education institutes this year in the south bar 2 that I'm not involved with, who may do the same. Ultimately the whole thing is being handled very badly and is simply alienating even those organisations that can pay the premium.
I do agree with you that the way the strategy has been executed is poor. It has caused much confusion among customers and partners. Horizon is an interesting one. Hopefully, they will revisit the concessions for education.
Cuz young people realised u can work until u die and be poor but there are people who never work in their whole life and are millionaires/billionaires

I understand your feelings of your ups and downs. It is never easy but thanks for the hard work you have put in. Yeah, I can relate to the early fixation to stats, but the right way to keep things easy is to share your knowledge and experience and expect little in return. You are right that even if your channel has made a difference for one person, that would be a job done well. I kept my blog going for 13 years now, and at one point, releasing one blog per week for 4+ years, consistently. It is my love for the technology industry I am now that I kept on going. So, well done and keep it coming!
Thanks man. Appreciate the kind words.
You said it very well. I was born in 2004, therefore I am a so-called "gen-z". It is like you said, it is not the individuals' fault, but the way society has developed today.

To me, staying at a job for decades just shows me that you only like to do what you're comfortable with. You're afraid to get out of your comfort zone. And anybody can do your job it doesn't make you special just because you stayed at one job for long. I actually believe that the more experience you get in different jobs, the better of a worker you are because you like to learn new jobs, new skills, new perspectives. Job hopping is the true talent. Sitting at one job for over 10 years makes ppl want to kill themselves
You are spot on!. In fact, the modern workplace requires adaptable workers. And there isn't a more adaptable workforce than the job hoppers!

Hi, I have about 9 years of experience in IT, currently working as a cloud engineer, like to move to enterprise storage domain. Please suggest a path.
Good question is to ask why storage?
@thecharleschow and Im in storage for the last 6 years and now I'm from trying to get into cloud ... but unable to.. not sure how and where to start
@chalonish start by getting your hands dirty with AWS, Azure or GCP. An easy way is to explore the platform on your own. Alternatively, take up some certifications
Fantastic explanation of the upper per VMDK and per node limits of vSAN, and why traditional benchmark tests tend not to paint it in a positive light. In the spirit of full disclosure, I work for NetApp and fell into the trap of assuming vSAN would offer the same traditional SAN/NAS benefits I have come to take for granted in my 18+ year tenure as a Solutions Architect. For instance, in my first single VM single VMDK test I achieved over 2000 MB/s to the NetApp NAS device over NFS (25GbE), and only ~70MB/s to the vSAN doing a very standard fractional block (sub 1K) billion file write test of AES generated random data. A real-world workload without a doubt (from a telco customer of mine who had a customer service app that wrote many small files), just not a workload that vSAN could ever handle (unless the app were re-factored to run across many VMs or containers vs a few monolithic VMs). By the time I got to 4 VMs running a more reasonable block size 64K at closer to 70/30 RW mix, the performance of vSAN achieved fully 3/4 of what the NAS/SAN array could do. Bottom line, vSAN can be a great fit for certain I/O profiles and is evolving nicely to fill many spaces where SAN/NAS might be unnecessary. The important thing is to profile your workloads, and plan to stay ahead of that point where single VM performance becomes a limiting factor for your real-world application. The great news is that vSAN and NAS/SAN devices can operate side by side even on the same cluster, so for situations where the application cannot be re-factored or optimized to break the workloads into more optimal blocks of work, an external NAS can plug right in and offload that noisy storage workload before it grows to be a problem! Both VROps and NetApp Cloud Insights do an excellent job of graphically illustrating the potential choke points in your VM performance (exactly as you showed in your graph of IO vs latency) to help optimize your storage and make wise storage back-end choices. Thanks again for this video and for pointing out HCIBench as a nice overlay to VDBench and fio. Very understandable and helpful in framing conversations about which VMware clusters will benefit from external storage versus which will not require it.
Personally, I've always considered snapshots to be a "System Restore" solution. Great for recovery in case of issues with updates (highly recommended when using rolling release distributions). But not a backup solutions. This is why my snapshots are configured to only create a new snapshot when I install, remove or upgrade software. It also makes sure there are no more than 10 snapshots available on my system, by removing the old ones daily at 7 P.M.
Great insight. Thanks for that
Well done, Sir

Yes it comes with mounting brackets for racks
Pls Reduce Volume of you background Music..
Excellent video! I learned a lot. BTRFS was designed for massive enterprise installations. It is slow on home desktops. DJ Ware did an excellent comparison of file systems. F2FS shines on home desktops with SSDs and is what I use on all my systems. Snapshots can lull people into thinking of them as a real full backup. It is much better to create a full system image or functional clone, plus extra backups of irreplaceable files in Home, configs in etc, and the like.
Thanks for sharing. Appreciate it
Please remove this music!
Can you please update or remove this video?
So much better it had been without that background noise! (music?)
The market trend can turn around very quickly. In fact, the indexes often switch from a bear market to a bull market when the news is at its worst and the mood of investors is at its lowest point. I read an article of people that grossed profits up to $150k during this crash, what are the best stocks to buy now or put on a watchlist?
Investors should be cautious about their exposure and be wary of new buys, especially during inflation. Such high yields in this recession is only possible under the supervision of a professional or trusted advisor.
True, initially I wasn't quite impressed with my gains, opposed to my previous performances, I was doing so badly, figured I needed to diversify into better assets, I touched base with a portfolio-advisor and that same year, I pulled a net gain of 550k...that's like 7times more than I average on my own.
I’ve been looking to switch to an advisor for a while now. Any help pointing me to who your advisor is?
There are a lot of independent advisors you might look into. But i work with Catherine Morrison Evans and I have been working together for nearly four years, and she is excellent. You could proceed with her if she satisfies your discretion. I endorse her.
Thank you for this Pointer. It was easy to find your handler, She seems very proficient and flexible. I booked a call session with her.
Looping the same sound over and over again on a rather high volume is no sign of intelligence
Man, you've helped me a lot with this video.
I've been thinking it's quite like this indeed. I've been using snapshops like before bigger system changes that could result in undesired concequences. But I still try to do like weekly backups.
Its best to do both because both serve a different purpose
why the needs of music while teaching?
Hello Charles! Thank you for the video is so informative! I have a question. Could you remove an intermediate snapshot and keep one from long ago? The objective would be to have like some kind of "backup" once a month (with snapshots) allowing time travel to check how the data was 1 year ago and also like for example the last 2 days. If this is possible you would delete a lot of data that we don't need. But I'm not so sure that if I "break the chain" of the snapshots I will be able to access to data from long time ago.
Typically most systems allow it to happen. What the system will typically do is to consolidate the snapshots.
Fantastic video! I learned a lot. Thank you. I always feel like the abstraction of data storage and accessibility/interface options have just become overwhelming. Maybe I'm dealing with FOMO haha. After a deep breath I'm just glad to see that rsync is will being used in industry and home labs! Finally a tool that hasn't been supplanted.
Rsync is still heavily used in enterprises... just that nobody really wanna admit that they do.
bro the music - stop
