After Elly got back from the emergency vet last Friday, 14 June, 2024, he was really lethargic. But he perked up after a few days and is enjoying life. His prognosis is guarded. On Wednesday night, June 12, "Ellie" was lethargic, not eating, and having trouble breathing. We rushed him to the emergency vet. Turns out he has heart failure. The amazing vets stabilized him, but he has a long road ahead. When he went to the vet, we thought he was a "she" but the vet said that he was a boi! Handshake Waltz

A little waltz I composed in E minor. It was part of a piano lesson to "create my own waltz." I got the idea for the name from going on a walk after practicing one day and saw this couple holding hands. I was working out the tune in my head, humming to myself (I was quiet about it...nobody heard me, lol). I thought "Holding Hands Waltz" sounded weird so I changed it to "Handshake Waltz."
I Turned Fur Elise into a Waltz

I'm a couple years into my piano journey, making my way through a curriculum. One of the assignments was to learn to play Fur Elise. But, I had already learned it when I was first starting out and wanted to challenge myself. The lesson before this was to create my own waltz and I was still in a "waltz-y" mood. So I did the same to Fur Elise (by Beethoven).

Before December 2021, I had never heard of FIP, or Feline Infectious Peritonitis. When not one but TWO of my recently adopted cats developed FIP, the diagnosis wasn't quick and I had to figure out what FIP even was. I'm planning to stay up late drinking wine and watching Dateline, sleeping in, doing some housework while listening to music, going to the Farmer's Market with my dogs (maybe, if I decide to get out of my house!), watching Football or binge-watching Hallmark movies. Lots of plans!!!

Definitely. He recently had an echocardiogram. The vet thinks Elly has a year, maybe two with this diagnosis. Just goes to show: enjoy every moment and try to live in the moment.

Thank you so much! We have an EKG appointment with Elly today, actually, and hopefully we'll get some better insights into fine-tuning his treatment so he can be around for years to come. It is a journey for sure!

Thanks for sharing the journey with us, it hits differently when you see him and get a real sense of what all he's battling on a daily basis - and the emotional weight on his humans. Hello.So sorry to hear about little Elly. Have you thought about using the herbs Hawthorn berry & Schisandra berry. Both are safe for cats & both are helpful in congestive heart conditions. A herbal tincture would be good but it would be best if it was a full extraction tincture in a non alcohol base I believe that Natures Answer company do a range of full extraction tinctures in a veg glycerine base & there may be some other alternatives as well. Or perhaps the powdered herb sprinkled on food if Elly would eat it. Please let me know if you need any more information. Love to you all.
Thank you for your suggestions. :) I have looked into herbs and together with the different herbal companies and holistic vets, and through my research, we have all determined that hawthorn, dandelion and Schisandra can all cause dangerous and potentially lethal interactions with Elly's heart medicine, especially the pimobendan. Now, should Elly ever be able to get off the pimobendan (sometimes it can be contraindicated in HCM cases, depending on what the EKGs show), THEN we can entertain some of these herbal options. But for now, they are off the table. Appreciate the suggestions and as an added bonus, these herbs can be especially helpful in cats with heart murmurs. :)

She really enjoys it! Eventually, I would like to take her sisters along, but we will need a different setup (it would be much easier in a camper rather than a tent if you have multiple cats and a dog). Little by little we’re getting there. 🤪
