Civ VI: The Ultimate Guide to City-States
City-states are one of the most important interactions in the game, and knowing how to manage your relationship with them can determine the game’s outcome more than your relations with other civilizations on the map. Whether you take them over, use their troops for your own goals, or enjoy the extra yields while simming, knowing how to leverage them with envoys and influence points is vital to building an empire to stand the test of time.

Oh, good heavens! It appears a pharaoh is playing civilization VI as Egypt and is really good at it! Maybe, I don't know, deity difficulty videos were getting pretty stale in the community. This works with Boom's Scotland rework, they get science and production from domestic trade routes
Maybe a reference to Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Yuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit? (Full name of bangkok)

I once got nanotechnology in 1600 AD.
Note that some improvements such as mekewap and monastery are especially productive in providing housing
While production is top 3 yields i dont think it should be valued early. I would rather work a 2 food 1 prod in the start than work a 3 prod 1 food or something. Growing while still getting good production is the key
Aztec Jaguar warriors laugh at this.
I had a city called Trolololololololololol, to the cap it still is the city name my friends and I keep talking about
“The wheel? What’s that? Anyways, I gotta get this modern infantry to London before they finish building their crossbowmen”
Doesn't it give iron to
No that's Jebel Barkal
@@RidicAcidicDoesn’t it give 2 food, 1 production, and 2 gold to all Desert tiles?
If you think it's good right now, with the betterbalancegame mod, the UOS gets buffed!
...........Oh.....i have to actually assign people....
This is absolutely worthy of consideration. The bigger issue is the list of things you need to make it work. You need a city with at least some desert and will grow to at least pop 7 (notoriously difficult in the desert unless you are playing a few desert specialty civs like Mali or Nubia) and it must be adjacent to a campus with a university. Certainly not impossible to pull off but you have to plan for it early. You certainly don't want to delay your government plaza until you find a location for this city (if it even exists for your spawn).
I never used biplanes. I don’t make any airplanes until I can get bombers.. And if you get bombers before your neighbors get fighters, you can annex your neighbors
Pro tip: Never build scouts
When should you build more of your settlers? Is it worth it to wait for 2 governor titles (Magnus's and his zero population penalty when producing settlers) and start spamming multiple? I've been experimenting with that but not sure how good of an idea it is
Ok I’ll admit in later Domination games I sacrifice settlers for population control 😂
Just started focusing on managing amenities and there’s a CLEAR difference in performance of an empire with proper amenities
Please keep these vids going!!! Great content!!
Huge Issue though, it's a Wonder that needs to be built on a desert tile NEXT to campus with university. And this only matters if it's your capital with Magnus, since you'd never send TR to city with Sankore instead of your capital. But in reality, you almost never build Sankore in your capital even when you do build it, since you have other more important wonders to occupy your desert tiles, and if you got that much desert tiles, unless you're playing desert related Civ, you're probably just restarting because you got BS spawn. Let's be realistic, if you got more than 3 desert tiles in non desert civ, you got shafted, and if you got 2-3, you're putting Pyramids there and districts which don't care about adjacency, so it's all already used by the time you unlock Sankore. This wonder is usually built only in Petra City, which is almost never in first 3 cities, and in all my playthroughs there has probably been only once that Petra city outshun capital to the extent I'd want to switch Magnus to that city and do TRs there. And since we're playing Singleplayer, by the time that city comes online and you rolled very good luck, and you've put Liyang for fisheries to supplement lack of housing in desert, let's be realistic, you've already won versus Civ's atrocious AI and you're just doing "win more" stuff. So, all in all, you're probably going to either win in next 50 turns or get bored and restart, because we all know that late game churn versus mentally challenged AI isn't remotely enough fun.
*screams in Ryzantium*
*Laughs in Tokugawa*
Solid tip here! Just the government plaza diplomatic quarter combo for yields are solid. Can combo this with a late game card I believe that boosts internal trade yields.
The Communism government does this I think
wait, promotions stack?!
Theoretically this is a goated strategy with Tokugawa Japan. But you are far better off with another district to buff all of your trade routes as the district trade Tokugawa civ bonus is significantly stronger and if not districts then builders to speed up getting districts. However if you get the Great Engineer that gives you a free Wonder production then and pretty much only then is it worth it, unless its not in 1 of your first 3 cities whichever has both the Gov Plaza and Diplomatic Quarter. If not with the 2 purple districts then not worth it.
I never even realized the diplo quarter and government plaza did that 😂
Normally each district at the destination city adds either +1 food or +1 production to domestic trade routes. The government plaza and diplomatic quarter both add +1 of each instead.
As someone who is a big fan of internal routes, I’ll definitely try this one out
this is a super underrated one, the meta in bbg is magnus internal trade routes after all. one of my personal favs because i do sci victory most of the time
I believe this video is made for deity ai, not for bbg multi, where this wonder is insane
@brutalarmy4179 and its insane in vanilla, if you are doing magnus internals. people calling it trash are just bad is what im getting at lol
Its so fucking bullshit how you can't claim tiles from them once your Suzerain. You can really grief other players by putting all of your envoys in a city state thats super close to them. Especially if it has really good yields. Natural Wonders too and you get to block other players from accessing them. You can however culture bomb tiles back from city states so that 1 world congress vote to allow you to culture bomb surrounding tiles of districts you build is insanely good.
Just one word: Gold
The warrior point depends on Barb settings, but if on and not civilised I still like to use the warrior to scout. I like to do a 5-6 tiles perimeter around the capital, close enough to respond and defend, but still finds huts and works out settler spots. Also, should definitely start the scout exp card until actually fighting a camp
You could always add oligarchic legacy to this as well as the fascism government (France being reasonable at generating culture even without heavy focus on it). Though it is admittedly difficult to pass up the classical republic legacy card.
I’m a total noob this helped me with absolutely nothing
A unique what now?
Suzerain bonus
Percs
Never go scout. Cant upgrade and no defense vs barbs the extra movement isn’t worth it. Go double slinger and upgrade to archer. Monument then settler. Use gold to buy builders. Never go granary or water mill when builders do way more.
Deity Guide when ?
I read the title as “how Americans affect your cities” and imagined a McDonald’s distirict 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I have a bad habbit of beiing reckless with scouting 😂
That is nuts, gotta try this.
i love city states. i hate the computer on harder difficulties killing them all
Am I the only one who was outraged that it didn't have any aqueducts?
That’s how their borders grow?!
That and trade routes
@@Ardelin2no, that's only if the trade route gives them an envoy from a quest or you following the owls of minerva
@@RidicAcidic Which is the same thing and the end.
@@RidicAcidic Actually the video is wrong too. It only grows for every envoy that's more than someone else has. Example for this: You have 2, someone else has 3. You add one. There is no change. If you both have 3 now and you add one, the border grows one tile.
I'm playing a merchant republic Norway currently on console edition and am really liking being suzerain of all the merchant states
Not every merchant city starte will be better than others, unless you are going to pump Commercial Hub in every City, The suzerain bonus peforms poorly in contrast to other cities. Even more so when you are playing Norway, grab Auckland(Ind), Buenos Aires(Ind), Geneva(Sci), Johannesburg(Ind), Kumasi(Cult), Nan Mandol(Cult), Mohenjo-Daro(Cult), Taruga(Sci). Can easily top Merchantes ones and there is even more which can depend on the Victory path you choose.
Now how do I do it on console edition 😢
Aztecs are honestly probably the most underrated civs in the whole game. Eagle warriors are unstoppable in the early game allowing for effortless expansion and pretty much zero threat to your own cities once you have a few of them. Then the spaceport synergy you mentioned is crazy good as well allowing for very fast science victories.
Damn that’s crazy
