How to upgrade your Mitsubishi Magna/Verada/Diamante indicators to LED
In this video, I demonstrate how to upgrade the indicator bulbs on your Mitsubishi Magna, Verada, or Diamante to LED.
Two important points to note:
1. When using the variable speed flasher relay, you might experience a brief delay between engaging or disengaging the indicator stalk and the flash.
2. The variable speed flasher relay prevents the 'hyperflash' issue, which typically alerts drivers to a blown bulb. Therefore, you will need to periodically check that all your LED indicator bulbs are functioning properly.
Aware that there were a varieity of bulbs fitted to the Magna and Verada over its life, I prepared a table below of the indicator bulbs used in the generation three Magna and Verada. However, it serves as a guide only and I recommend checking the type of bulb in your car before purchasing a replacement.

    I've had nothing but trouble with the fuel door on my 2017 KIA Forte since I bought the car new in October of 2017. I tried everything and had temporary success but it was always reverting back to that nagging car problem I couldn't do anything to fix. Your simple, easy remedy showed me exactly how to sort it quickly, easily and with a minimum amount of tools. Thank you very much for this video. It finally solved the issue that's been nagging me for 7 long years, mate!

      Thanks Ronald, always happy to read about one of my videos helping someone out.😃It appears that the fuel door issue may be systemic as I have also experienced it on my 2017 Cerato/Forte, although not to the same frequency as my wife's car, so I haven't done anything about it. 99% of the time it releases on the first attempt but occasionally it will need two or three. Thanks very much again for watching, I appreciate it.

      Hi Brad, it did although I had to jump it again after I stopped 15 minutes later to have a look at a random used car. This was filmed last weekend and I've been driving around since and it's been fine. Ideally however, I'd like to take it onto the motorway for an extended drive to get the battery back to optimal, and next time I store it I'll disconnect the battery.

    • @billymasonpi
      @billymasonpi 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Indeed it is, but this country is practically a police state with all of its rules and regs. In NSW it's required annually once the vehicle is more than 5 years old. I find it an inconvenience as it is, and can't imagine owning several cars that you wanted to keep on the road. Thankfully, where I take mine doesn't give me a hard time, and you have 6 months following the inspection to renew your registration. It means that I can return the car to storage and renew it when I'm ready to drive, such as from this weekend. It also means however that the registration renewal date changes each year now. Good to know SA and I understand VIC are more relaxed; only required when you want to buy/sell?

    Hi Billy ; my younger brother has 2006 Getz with all lights working except both sides reverse light. The tail lights seem to have a known fault as there is small areas water can get in. I removed both sides and there was dirt / mud on the body behind the tail light - where the two meet. I cleaned all the crap up, and just assumed the globes were blown. I purchased 2 new reverse bulbs, and same problem. No reverse light. What would you do in my situation ? • @billymasonpi
      @billymasonpi 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching Roylo6804. It’s certainly louder than our previous Veda and perhaps equal to our neighbour’s pump (unsure what it is) which we have not found to be intrusive in the eight years that we have lived here. I think the perception of noise from the pump will depend on how it’s used and where it’s installed. For instance, in our residential setting, where the pump is connected to a rainwater tank, noise levels are not a concern as it operates intermittently when the toilets are flushed, and we will avoid flushing them throughout the night. If I’m going to use the garden nose for an extended period of time, to pressure wash for example, then I’ll switch to town water so that the pump isn’t operating continuously. That all being said, if the pump is installed close to your neighbour's living spaces such as bedrooms or living rooms, even a moderately noisy pump may be disruptive, especially during nighttime.

      You're most welcome The-Cosmic_Hobo.😁 Dealing with the charge vs run time issue was frustrating. I recall repeatedly checking the placement of the AAs in the overly sensitive Arlec charger, ensuring the red lights signaled the batteries were charging, only to return later and discover one or more lights had turned off! Anyway, I'm committed to finding the remote for the black Typhoon and will another video, this time outdoors, where I can push it to its top speed or even a drag race.

  • @billymasonpi
    @billymasonpi 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm sorry about the sound cutting in and out.😣 Three memories I have of the Typhoon as a child: 1. How difficult it was to control, that my Dad superglued a piece of perspex to the front as a makeshift bumper bar to help prevent damage to the shell when I ran into things. 2. The woeful runtime of about 8 or so minutes on a 12 hour charge of the Arlec rechargeable AA batteries. Or maybe it was 12 minutes on an 8 hour charge.🤔Regardless, those three motors drained the batteries at an alarming rate. 3. Not wanting to risk hovering over water although the advertising said that it was possible. I simply didn't trust that it would maintain lift or I'd accidently shut it off and it would sink.

    • @CaseTheCorvetteMan
      @CaseTheCorvetteMan 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was indeed 8 minutes, i think it even said that somewhere on the box! I had a set of Arlec AAs i used in the tray, but also got two of the yellow 9.6v Metro battery packs for it later on. I remember not buying a new battery the day i got my Scorcher only to find out Metro decided to change the plug so it took the white battery pack instead! I used to use mine at the beach, it ran fine on the hard wet sand and went through the water fine. The book says avoid salt water, and the screws in mine did eventually rust, but it lasted a few years. I used to take it straight up to the taps and wash it all off with fresh water when i ran all the batteries dead. They don't sink even if they sit stopped in the water for a while, there should be a big piece of styrofoam in the rear which you can see if you pull out the skirt. They'll float pretty much indefinately, the only thing that would bring it down is if you hit a wave and either had a lot of water over the top or flipped it over. Pressing the pause button on the top would stop it going under! I just bought two on ebay, i reckon i'll take one to the beach to relive childhood memories 😊

      @@CaseTheCorvetteMan Thanks for sharing such a detailed recollection, it sounds like you had some great adventures with it, especially at the beach. When I dissembled them to clean I noticed the little piece of foam and it's good to know that they proved to be more durable that I thought, so I may take one to the beach. My mum managed to find the remote controller for the black one, but my attempt at mending the tears in the skirt was unsucessful, that it only partially lifts and won't move. Not too keen to switch the skirt over from the white one simply to get the black one going I'll see what other options I have first.

      Thanks Michael, much appreciated. Although I'm unfamilar with the i20, and was unable to find any information about the reverse light switch location for them online, I suspect that if it's the 1.4L Gamma engine it will be in a similar location. I'd start by removing the air filter box and perhaps the battery and shining a torch down there as the switches ook generally the same.

    Hey mason where can i get those fog lights

    • @billymasonpi
      @billymasonpi 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Adversity69, try searching on eBay for ‘Magna fog lights’ and you should get some good results. The set on my car I imported from Japan off a Diamante through a website called Jauce.com back in 2015. From memory it was ridiculously cheap at about $8 for the fog lights, but the shipping cost was astronomical. That being said I also imported in the same order, a set of headlights. Overall, however, it ended up being cheaper than buying the headlights and fog lights from an Australian seller. Keep in mind that the bumpers on the TE/TF and TH/TH series are different and therefore the mounting brackets for the fog lights are also different.

    So basically, you’re going to off-center the rack to straighten your steering wheel which means you’re gonna have to turn the outer tie rods to one side of the rack in more on one side and out more on the other

    • @billymasonpi
      @billymasonpi 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly.

      @@billymasonpi that’s what the alignment shop did with mine. I had the rack straight, but my steering wheel was off about 30°, so they move the tie rods to one side of the rack. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing they’re about a half inch off of equal distance but I don’t know how the inside of a rack works. I don’t know if there’s more pressure on a left-hand turn then a right hand turn now, or vice versa as far as a good firm return to center, it feels like coming out of a left-hand turn the wheel wants to center lot better than coming out of a right hand turn where I end up having to help it get straight, I don’t know if that has anything to do with it or not regardless, it feels good going straight, I wish they would’ve centered it, and then pulled the steering joint off of the spline, straighten my steering wheel out and then dropped it back down on the spine and tighten the clamp

    • @billymasonpi
      @billymasonpi 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi @stopher1971, given the significant off centre positioning of your steering wheel, my recommendation would have been to initially remove and reposition the steering wheel. Adjusting the tie rods to such an extent is likely to impact steering resistance and the return to centre feel. In my video, I demonstrate a minor off centre adjustment that I've performed for many years that have minimal to no effect on steering turn and feel, but it does require precision. Ideally, the shop handling the alignment should ensure the steering wheel is precisely centred before proceeding, eliminating the necessity to adjust the tie rods.

    • @AyoBroliic
      @AyoBroliic 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The steering rack itself is off-center so it doesn't really matter. The right side is usually way longer than the left on almost all racks. Also ball joint angle during installation impacts alignment a lot

      My pleasure. It sounds like you may have a similar problem to mine and after a couple of months since the installation, I can highly recommend a manual switch solution. Two observations since the installation; 1) Occasionally I'll forget to return the lever to the 9 o'clock position for rainwater after using mains water to, for exampe, refill our pets' water bowls. 2) The Ozito pump is a little louder than the Vida but the beauty of a lever valve to do the switching is that you can essentially choose any pump you like. Overall we're very happy with it and saved about $2,500 over a direct replacement and installation of the previous system.

      Thanks AJ-Lawn, the matt finish pillar posts on less expensive cars never seem to hold up to extended Aussie sun, and why I love my Magna's pillarless windows. I understand that my car was on sale for an extended period of time in QLD (I purchased it online) based on the service date by the dealer and when I purchased it, and thus suspect it was parked outside the entire time, most of it over winter thankfully. Perhaps too by the previous owner but I doubt it based on its overall condition. Gratefully, it was the only sun damage and I could mask it at least with these inexpensive covers.

I was recently in QLD driving a rental Toyota Yaris Cross (awful thing), and returned home to drive my Magna for a week. What a contrast; smooth, quiet, effortless, stylish, no rattles or squeaks and yet the Magna has almost 600K vs 10K on the Yaris.
