Using this TH-cam thing to keep my 4wd camping memories available for me and my family and friends. When I am 90 I can look back and remember the things I had forgotten!! And every now and then, videos that have SFA to do with my 4wd camping adventures.. e.g. my other passion is the sport of hockey and I will have the odd video or 2 up as well for others to view. Just scroll on if your not interested :)
I dont have any good camera gear or anything like that, its just a dodgy dashcam, a Samsung phone and occasionally my DJI Mini 2 drone. You wont learn anything really from my videos either. I dont proclaim to have any offroad or camping knowledge, and my video editing skills are 80's home movie standard ahhaha. But you might learn what NOT to do, or at very least discover a few places you might be keen to visit yourself.

Just a few bits and pieces from a recent camp I did out the old Glen Innes Road. Nothing special this vid, its moreso for my memories but I might as well share hey, someone might get some value out of it.

No secrets here, just a quick vid to assist some fellow Toyota Fortuner owners I know who havent driven on a beach before. Just shows how I set my vehicle for driving on the beaches in my local area like Stockton Beach, Bennetts Beach & Mungo Beach. Now this works for me, it may not work for you. BILLY GOATS BLUFF 17OCT23 - dashcam view of entire track bottom to top

Did the track on Tuesday October 17th 2023. Thought I might throw up the entire track from bottom to top, using just my dashcam footage. I have removed as much of the stops as I could. Someone else might get benefit out of it, see what its like at the time and how a Fortuner did it. For me though, its a chance to store my memory and look back on the track in a few years time when I do it again....

Not just any hill though, the infamous Billy Goats Bluff. According to reports the tracks condition is the worst it has been in many years, and there was known to have been 5 roll overs already this year. But that wasnt going to stop us having a crack. Great video Scott, I came across it while researching the park. I'm thinking of getting out on the bike to do this one but after the rain we've had recently, I might hold off. Those tracks look pretty challenging too. Can't wait to get out there in the coming months!
I reckon you will be right if it hasnt rained for a week. Make sure you stop and check out the waterfall, its beautiful! Yeh mate there isnt a lot in the National Park to do other then the track in this video, but the surrounding state forests have shitloads of activities to do. I did another video too where I found a hut out there.. the link is th-cam.com/video/ZjtfFtg56dk/w-d-xo.html if your interested and it has this track but going the other way with a mate in his Troopy. And of course there is a few old timber and steam train relics to the north of Bulahdelah to check out as well, just outside Wootton in the forests nearby. I recently watched a couple vids of yours on Basin Road and Mt Allyn etc, enjoyed them. Thanks for checking out one of my vids, appreciated!
Great video. How do you think the Patrol would have gone?
ahha. I think given the patrols driver, it would of nailed it.
Great video I just watched you on @Mudducks, and he sent me over😀
Appreciated pal.
It’s a cracking spot Scotty, love that area. Just haven’t done enough of it myself. Was close when I was on the GC, not so now I’m back in Vic.🤦🏽 Well captured, and some cracking drone footage in amongst all that. 👌
It certainly is a cracking area especially when noone else is within yahoo of you. There is some good adventuring if your keen to get up into a couple of the surrounding state forests and follow some of the old logging trails and less maintained roads.
Nice one Scotty, I feel like Ive been there recently myself lol. Cheers Steve
Yeh i know!!
Cracking spot mate 👍 I need to get up that way more See you in the next one
Mate there were no campers between Dalmorton and us and we didnt see any further up river either.. we basically had atleast a 25km stretch of river to ourselves. Maybe saw 10 cars in total across all 3 days. F'n brilliant!!!
Nice video Scotty. I'd really love to et up there one day. Cheers Jim
Its a brilliant piece of the world. Just avoid summertime school holidays, gets quite busy!
@@scottroygbiv I can imagine it would
Awesome video mate The sidesteps and rear bar were the first things that got damaged on our dmax
yeh I liked the vid. So your saying its a DMAX thing then? I think some sliders are high on his shopping list now to replace the steps.
Nice one Scotty. Good to see Steve the Muddy Duck out with you doing some real wheeling
Yeh was good to see him and the Ranger in action! Thanks for watching pal.
top video mate & some good action 👍
Thanks pal. Surely you got Barrington Tops on your list of places to visit soon?
@@scottroygbiv yeah mate I’m keen to get back up that way for sure & do some areas I haven’t done

Love ya videos Scott.
Stop it, your too kind :P When the Jeep coming on a proper adventure?
Nice one Scott, I hope my versions as good. Cheers Steve
Thanks mate! Looking forward to your view of events.
HI nice content, what brand of bar do you have and year of car? Looking for a bar for my 2022. There expensive?
2020 Facelifted GXL. I use an Ironman bullbar.
@@scottroygbiv how does it fit?
@@richardwalsh5570 it fits as you would expect. Mine is the old bullbar design, they have a newer one now that is better suited to the facelift.
@@scottroygbiv cheers, will look into it 👍
Great spot ❤
I think it rates up there is one of the best campsites in NSW. Thanks for checkin out the video!
Nothing worse than having to get up in the middle of the night to sort stuff out. Haven’t done much down that way ( or up now I’m in Vic ) always camp out the back of the Coopernook Pub when driving through. It’s free, has toilets and beer! 🤣🤣👍🏼
Yes the pub is a decent stopover! But I do love me a nice national park grassy campsite whether it be by beach or bush.
Thanks for the invitation mate, It was a great trip. Cheers Steve
Any time!
Wow lucky you didn't come through a few seconds earlier
Yeh whilst I doubt they were human killers, still would of done a bit of damage to the car if they fell on top.
@@scottroygbiv definitely would have
Nice timing.
Yeh I just happened to notice a gust hit the tree tops there, and then realised they werent swinging back so hit the skids.
So close. Cheers Steve
As you know, i only stopped 100m back down the road to remove a stick from under the car, if I didnt have that stick would not have seen this as we would of been well past it by then.
Thats a cloud, dude! Not fog, amazing
yes, yes it was!
I have a crusade and want to upgrade one size up on my tyres on stock suspension. From 265/60R18 to 264/65R18. I'm scared it would rub under the fenders. Have you had experience or heard from a fellow fortuner owner even when they upgrade on their 17' wheels?
I think one size up is ok. But if you join the this facebook group there is plenty of posts about tyre sizes and so on or just ask and someone will answer. facebook.com/groups/1209957709118557
Nice clip Scotty! I need to go there myself. Cheers Steve
Its a pretty part of the world.
Nice one Scotty. Good to see you cleaning up after the dirty filthy lazy scum bags. I've never been on that beach. I been past on a boat to Broughton Island a 1000 times.
Broughton Island is a place I really want to get out too and stay a few nights.
@@scottroygbiv I've only ever stayed once. I was helping with frog research for UTS in Sydney. We stayed for 3 nights
Nice one. Cheers Steve
yeh mate not exactly relevant to big 200 drivers, but I had a couple fellow owners wondering how to drive on the beach, so just anted to show them how to disengage the traction control properly.
“Oh what a feeling”🎉🎉 nice
Prior to this, and I had to edit it out, you should have heard the language :P
Nice one Scotty. Simples
yeh mate just wanted to show some peeps i know what to do, how it isnt difficult.

FME … you got kissed on the d&@k by an angel there. 🤣🤦🏽👍🏼
Yep, and I landed it and packed it away immediately. hahahaha I only had owned it for 5 days at that stage, wasnt keen to lose it.
Nice one Scott👍👍
Aww thanks for watching! Appreciate it :)
Another cool video thanks Scotty. I still haven't been to that lookout and I heard a while back when I met up you a couple of young guys out there that there's a crashed plane in there somewhere too. Unfortunately he couldn't tell me where as his grand father had told him he saw it when he used to log timber there. I might go looking for the cave next time I'm there.
Never heard of the crashed plane. Might do some googling, see what I can find. thanks for watching pal.
1950 a RAAF jet crashed into the forest there. Be interesting to see if any of that wreckage still exists at the crash site.
@@scottroygbiv we should go searching one day
@@FlatBrokeAdventures I have googled the bejeebers out of it, there is nothing to indicate anywhere roughly where it could be, other then the Wallaroo State Forest.. which is now predominately a National Park. So could be anywhere out there.
Awesome mate , good to see you taking muddy under your wing 👍👍🤠
Its a difficult job, but someone has to do it! Hahaha nah in all seriousness they are great people and its nice to have another local to share some adventures with from time to time.
@@scottroygbiv yep, muddy is the man. I love that 200 hey
Nice vid.
Thanks for watching! Appreciated.
Awesome mate, out with the mudduck himself 👍👍😎. What did the ranger say about the drone ?
They had to have known I had the drone up when they arrived (I am holding the controller!) but "Steve Likes A Chat" mode kicked in and he distracted them whilst I landed it behind the cars. They said absolutely nothing about it.
Watched it continuously up to the bluff Scott. Very useful video for my purposes - will be doing Billy Goats after New Year. So did you need the rear locker at all? I'm very pleased with the traction control on my 2023 Fortuner. Have only used the locker for deep mud and steep descents.
Hi there. I did not use the locker at all. Was able to get through without it. As you would of seen a couple of times I had to reset and go again but the Tuna got over the issue on its own steam without the need for the locker.
Nice m8! Looks awesome 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Everyone naturally flocks to the beaches at Forster, its understandable, but they miss this great little gem along the way to check out.
Have you got room for one more ?
I do!!! Thinking I might put a Next Level Adventures one in the spot.. what ya reckon? :P Seriously though, I will be grabbing a sticker from you sometime after xmas.
@@scottroygbiv I’ll send you one 👍. Shoot me through your address
Hi where did you get the Russel coight sticker from??
Just off Ebay pal.
Nice one Scott, I love it down there too. Cheers Steve
Thanks for watching pal.
went along the Yango track from Laguna & came out west onto the Putty Road in Howes Valley in my Mini Cooper S in 1968, what a trip for a Morris Mini, we followed the rally route directions for the 1968 Rege Renault Nsw state rally at the time. I was back recently 2023 on U-Tube, reliving memories of another time. good fun....
1968!!! I cant imagine how much of a challenge that must of been then, and in a mini!!
Another great episode, you guys have done some great tracks nad seen some spectacular scenery, 14 days next time I reckon.👍🏼 I reckon you need to purchase a drone 🤣
Legit the best 4wd trip I have been on. Everyday was adventure. And different. Loved it. And probs only seen 1% of whats there to see. Keen as to get back down there. As for the drone, I need to learn to fly it in some clever ways and thank goodness its got some preset fligthmodes else my drone footage would suck!
Awesome mate, appreciate you running me sticker !👍🏼🍻
She's a beaut sticker. And tbh, I am a closet Troopy lover.... when my days as a Tuna driver are ending I am determined to join the Troopy Owners ranks.
Nice! Cheers Steve
Happy to help pal!
Frenchmans Gap Helipad is awesome. Views unbelievable.
Abdsolutely loved the track and the helipd. Dissapointed I didnt get more footage to share! Thanks for watching, appreciated.
Bummer about the campsites being closed. Looks like a great day anyway. I've been wanting to go there camping too.
Was still a good day out. I will defo be heading back to the area.
Been a few caught out on the rock step recently going off the videos. Should of walked to First Fslls at Horseyard Flat. ( bit of a hike but we’ll worth the effort ) So who is this Rob, All Australian Melb player ?
P.s, not long episodes of they are enjoyable. That was a great episode mate 👍🏼
Thanks pal, I actually enjoyed this one meself. As for Rob, all australian field umpire this season.
Tell Benny to watch out next time for Jeeps on that Tamboritha Rd, they love smashing into Troopys. 🤦🏽
haha Jeeps like smashing into anything tbf.
First place I’d camped in the snow and seen snow for on 26 years was at Bentley Plains. Sunny one day snow the next ! 👍🏼 Couple of great little walks around that area, beautiful rainforest areas. Dargo Pub… say no more! 👌🍻 Great little episode ! 👍🏼
Definately next time I/we head to the high country there will be less time driving, more time enjoying some walks and extra little sites and things to see. I was like a little kid when it was snowing, thankfully noone caught it on camera :)
@@scottroygbiv I was the same mate, I wasn’t meant to be there that night, so was like a kid in a candy store. 🤣
Hey you made it down south! Good to see you got the obligatory picture in front of the Dargo Hotel. You showed an amazing view from the top of Billy goats and it is still on our to do list. Looks like you had an amazing trip!
yep did a week down there. Loved it. Definately heading back!
Nice video Scott. Good to see someone acknowledging that Billy Goats is tough. I've watched a large number of vidoes of that climb, and most don't mention how tough it is. It was impressive to see the way the standard D-Max handled it. My own Fortuner arrived a couple of months ago (after an 18 month wait!) and I'm starting to do some tougher tracks. I live about an hour away from Billy Goats and am intending to do it when the skill levels are what's needed. I have a Tough Dog 40mm lift, KO2s, and winch. Do you have a front locker on yours? My original intention was to get an ARB air locker but am not sure now. I find the traction control to be very good on steep rocky stuff, and to date have only used the rear locker for sand, mud and sometimes for steep descents.
Thanks for watching, much appreciated. None of us on that climb were what I would call experienced off roaders. Rob in the Patrol, it was his first day on a 4wd track, ever. But we didnt do anything stupid, it wasnt a race to the top, we just took our time. Low range, just crawl up. I didnt have to activate the locker which was good, my 2" lift and 31.5" tyres were more then enough to avoid any clearance issues just had to take the right lines. Although the locker would of made some of those wombat holes on the approaches to the roll overs a lot easier to navigate if I had come stuck on any of them. The Dmax is stock as, infact probably a little bit lower on the front now given he has a bullbar and winch fitted. He did get stuck a number of times but it was a case of reversing back, trying different angles and approaches and he got through every one on his own steam which impresses me a lot. And welcome to the world of Fortuner ownership!!
Nice one Scott, some stuff in there I haven’t seen before too. Cheers Steve
You said I would enjoy VHC, and you werent wrong. Absolutely loved it.
