Here is my issue: Many people want to be an actor but are terrible at it. Thus, the quality of movies they make are subpar and suffer. Many people want to teach, regardless of the reason, and are terrible at it. The children thus suffer. Just because someone "loves to teach" does not mean they should. Teaching should be one of the highest-paid salaries in our system. It should be full of competition. Our ED system would flourish.

Just for the students at the back "intrinsically paternalistic view" is not big words for their own sake. It means that the education policy is too top down by design. Those on the ground such as the teachers are not being listened to or their views sufficiently considered for helping shape policy. Intrinsically paternalistic is code for "big brother is watching you." The state interferes to a destructive degree, while refusing to take into account anything that is "statistically insignificant."

She has a decent point though, maybe someone at the top doesn’t need a salary as bad anymore, but 99% of actors do. Also very childish of CNN being dumb as always and being impressed by 3 words and feeling the need to pause and comment on it because they’re already impressed. My mother is a veteran elementary school teacher with a solid reputation of over close to 50yrs of teaching. If a bunch of 20+-somthing media kids came in attacking her ethics that would be a terrible mistake. He handled this very well with limited anger. My own mother is so good at her job she would have reprimanded my curse words infront of the journalists even if they were the morons. That's both a mother and a teacher we all need.

Our schools suck. Would you pay a builder more if he was making tents instead of houses? Who working doesn't devote their whole lives to their job? Having both been in the public school system and taught in it I would say it’s an 80/20 rule. Matt is definitely right about teachers wanting to be there. However, it’s really enjoyable, despite the hours which aren’t as bad as people make it out to be. Run a company and you’ll learn what terribly long work hours are. The pay is low because you get paid in the kids. That’s why being a stay at home mom doesn’t pay in $$$.
