Getting my 1978 Mazda 626 out of winter storage fleet update
My father had a 260E before the facelift.. Miss it. I believe the color was called Impala
Awesome. I have two 124 favourites. One is just like your dad's, an early 260, the other would be a 400E.
I prefer the normal Alegro 1500 MK1
For me, the VP and the Allegro feel very different. If I could choose another Allegro, it would be a 1300. It has just the right weight for the car, it's a good engine. So, a 1300 for me, posher MKII Seneffe spec preferred.
My first new car was a Mitsubishi Precis in 1989. It was only $5,700 USD delivered. There were 2 generations of the Precis- didn't sell that well, it was lower in the range than the Mirage.
But you know what, today it's kinda cool. It was one of my absolute favourite cars at the show!
love the rims and i agree, its pretty modular. Its rare when i get the sportbak off but its my favorite time to drive the car!
Very good videos well done to you and greetings from Ireland
Thanks so much!
I had an 80 mk1 and 5 mk2 including four 16Vs. I'm sorry I sold my fourth for $3800 in 07 and never got over it. Because of a knee injury I sold a 16V FOR 3800, an E30 M3 $12k and a 73 GTV FOR 3500. I bought a S4 with the money. Boy do I miss all four. now I have a V70r, an 16V and a cayman S, I'm set
It's quite a cool car biography
I love old Japanese cars. I have two old Sentras. My first car was a 1978 Datsun 510 hatchback in blue.
I have a soft spot for Sentras 😂
Good to see, in Australia not to many older unmolested Japan cars left
Glad you liked it!
Yes, I remember a lady I knew adored Harvest Gold! She wanted the (original) MINI in that nice colour! That was a great thing about British Leyland - you sometimes even have your MINI in the same colour as your JAGUAR, in front of your home!
Hahaha, oh yes! And for me, one of my favourite BL colors.
It is a common mistake, to think that Harris Mann designed these cars! The Allegro Owners Club were looking for a "hero", and when Harris Mann designed an IDEA, that you showed, the club praised him for it. But the car that DID get produced with that shape, was the Vauxhall Chevette Hatchback. IF you don't know that car you can look it up on the internet! (Isn't that useful, today!) Now let me tell you who actually DID design these cars! They were copied from a car 10 years earlier, called the OGLE SX1000! The company was owned by David Ogle, and that car was designed either by himself, or Tom Karen who designed the Bond Bug 3-wheel sportscar, and the Reliant Robin, as well as Reliant's sports car estate car! AND the Ogle SX1000 , like the Reliants was fibreglass. AND the car had TWO doors, and was like a "baby Porsche" with a Mini 1000 engine. A REALLY rare car! And I was actually lucky to see one! AND you can see very interesting videos about the lovely Ogle SX1000 on the internet!
Hm, sounds pretty wild - but it doesn't really make much sense. Not even if you follow Harris Mann's statements. And I also don't know why the Allegro Club needed a hero. Sure, I know the Ogle and am very familiar with Tom Karen (I once drove a Reliant Scimitar SE5A), and I also know the Chevette. But I don't see the connection with the Allegro at all. In general, one has to say that 1.) certain design ideas were widespread (e.g. hatchback, front engine, and front-wheel drive as a concept) and 2.) design departments consisted of teams. So, nice idea for a story, but historically and factually it makes little sense.
Corrrr hot stuff baby
I really wanted to make the trip for this show again this year, but it clashed with another show in the UK so I didn't go. That show ended up getting cancelled anyway cause of the great British weather! Glad I can enjoy this show instead via you!
Thanx for the nice words! Well, we had some heavy rain too 😂
Fun to see my Mazda 3 ... sadly it was just a walk by. She's a different edition than standard. She's the Active in Evolv edition.
Cool! Yep, it's a bit difficult with all the many cars to decide - it's all very spontaneous. But cool that you've brought your car.
@@petrolpunx It was a first timer for me, to put the car on display. Got in just barely 🙈 it's fun to see yer own car on any video or photo.
Great video thank you, so many cool cars but I'll take the Datsun 280c especially in that colour. Take care 🤘
It's a cool car!
That was me again at 17:43 with the grey BG! Loved your video of last years JCS, thanks for including mine in both 😄
My favourite BG style! What an excellent idea, to put pop-ups in it 😂. For me it would be the Eunos version.
Great to see the Svx got some recognition 🥰💪🇯🇵
It's a fantastic looking car. Almost bought one a couple of years ago.
cool that you've mentioned my RX-4 😊 nice video and seems you know your car specs!
Mate, that's such an incredibly good looking car! Everytime I see one, I see some new detail. Also the interior looks absolutely amazing. Thanks for bringing this to the show.
Thanks for including my Infiniti Q45! I drove it from my home in Norway, on a two week road trip through Eastern and central Germany and much of the Netherlands before the show, and it didn't miss a beat. Wonderful road trip car! As for the interior, the fact that there was no wood in the interior and no chrome on the outside made it not as popular in the US as Nissan has hoped. But the interior is really high quality. Still today, 32 years old, you hear not a single squeak or rattle in this thing even while driving over the cobblestone streets in old German towns. 🤠
Awesome! Well, I would never question the actual quality of a Japanese car, it's absolutely fascinating. And the Q45 has a very nice look! I'd definitely would prefer some velour and wood inside. Thanx for brining this awesome car to the show!
Nice to see my charade g10 coupe featured in your good video! Glad you like the car :) we own it fir 20 years now and restored it almost for 100% over the years
It's such a fantastic looking car. Very tidy!
Make it a SUBARU Vivio. Nice vid, my friend Benni
What did I said?
Suzuki ;)
😂😂😂 When I made the Toyota MR-2 a Mazda MR-2 I had one shouting at me - no one heard me with the Vivio 😂. Damn! It happens when it's all two much. I even talked in our podcast about the Viveo, so I really wonder how that happens.
I always had a soft spot for these VPs, and never disliked the ADO67 styling generally, preferring the Mks 1 and 2. I lived in Leipzig from '92 to '98, and for the first few years drove my UK registered Triumphs there: a Herald 13/60 convertible, then a Dolomite 1850HL automatic. The last few years I had a German registered '84 Mercedes W123 230E. Mercedes and Triumph are still among my favorite marks now I live in South Australia. No Triumphs at the moment, but I've had a W114, W116, W123 300D (best car in the world ever) and retain a '66 W108 250S, bought 22-years ago. My wife and I are retiring to the UK part-time next year and an ADO16 or small Triumph are top of the list for a car there, but I think I'll include an ADO67 Vanden Plas Mk 2 or 3. A nice presentation of your car, thank you.
You had such an amazing car history! And very diverse too. Same here, I always liked the Allegro a lot. Btw, I think the Dolomite is a great looking car. I had a ADO16, and still miss that car a lot.
Nice video Benni! Thanks!
Glad you liked it!

How size of tire your AXGT? 155/65R14?
I unfortunately don't know.
Very likely the only one in Germany.
I think it is - although, I've heard about a second one.
Harvest gold? The 1750 is the version to have. If your american watching this think Cadillac Cimarron and you've got the picture. Sunroof rain leaks could quite possibly be causing the headliner issue above the rear window. You need to look into that. Kind regards.
Thanx mate. I've seen that problem and with the rear part of the headliner on a few Allegros. So, I'm not sure if it's the roof.
The ligths of count kms is orange and is like that in all countrys 😊 and the ax sport was launch to market in white but was black red grey all so
Ah, interesting.
The sun roof is after market
Great video - brings back memories as I purchased a 1979 242GT brand new in Canada. I put 25k kilometres on it in the first year. Excellent car all round. The Canadian market saw those cars in '78. '79' and '80. In 1980 Halifax built 200 black 242GT's for Canada only. Magnificent looking cars. Arguably because of the tail lights and handling features the 1979 was the best year. All were B21F in Canada. US cars were slightly lower horsepower, I think about 109. Canadian ones were around 116 and did not have Lambda sensors but did have Pulsair and EGR. Thanks for posting your video!
Thanx so much - and very interesting! I would love to see one of the black ones.
Hi i just found your channel through this video. It's great to see you give an honest but affectionate appreciation of this unusual British car. I am sure you know about the Austin Maxi - another BL "might have been great but..." car - we had a Maxi when I was a kid and I learnt to drive in it.
Sorry for the late reply. Yes, I know the Maxi, and it's a car I like a lot. But I've only seen one in the last 20 years on german roads.
I WOULD LOVE TO SE IT
Go there 😉 it's awesome
Thanks Benni for another enlightening video. TheTreser range are especially fascinating.
You're welcome! The Treser cars were absolutely amazing!
The Audi convertible Treser looks like a Japanese Bosozoku car . Terrible but interesting. The Polo is arguably the most successful.
😂😂😂 Interesting comparison!
I am now afraid that you would call all my cars to be ruined😂😂😂
Oh, you don't have to! I mean, it's all a matter of taste, isn't. But with modifications, it's really difficult, as it's hard to modify, let's say, cool 😂
Nice cars
An unmolested dash is worth more than the car.
It is amazing to think that Leyland brought out the Allegro around the same time as VW were developing the first Golf - they are light-years apart, aren't they? Designing an upmarket version of the Allegro with that beautiful interior and the almost Bentley-style grille seems like such an odd thing to do, but then BL wasn't renowned for sensible decisions! I've read that when they got each bare shell to VP's Kingsbury Works, there was a lot of remedial work done on top of fitting that glorious interior so the quality was a bit better than a standard Allegro. I really like these odd little cars.
Absolutely right! But also, when BMC brought the Mini, or even more interesting, the ADO16, VW was years away from any innovation. Of course, that all changed with the Gold.
@@petrolpunx For sure - my father owned both an Allegro and a Mk1 Golf when I was a child. Worlds apart in terms of quality, something I noticed even when I was young.
I have a 1978 GT it has a different rear light configuration and different trunk. I also on the black GT and it didn’t have any stripes but all the same interior it was a 1980.
Very very interesting! Need to know more about the black ones.
What is the original name for this color?
I actually don't know, sorry!
Thanks for the video - happy memories! I had a mkI with the yoghurt pot interior, it was fantastic fun - 690kg and only 85bhp, but you could drive the doors off it. I traded it for a mkII - better interior but it wasn't the same - heavier and less sharp as a result. I only wish I still had one.
690kgs....my arse. At least 750.
Very tempting cars. I just should have bought this one straight away.
Very beautiful car. Quick question,i have the same car. Can u tell from where can i get the front and backlights?
J’ai la même entreposer à l’abri mais qui n’a plus tourné depuis au moins 15 ans .
You need to search almost everywhere, except for Japan. I think there are some listed on the German Ebay Kleinanzeigen.
Du berichtest besser und ausführlicher als alle anderen danke dafür mein Freund 👍👏🙋♂️
Sehr gerne 👍
Oh my 😮 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I noticed the injection badge on the boot so I think it will slightly less than 85hp. I think they quoted 75-80bhp for the spi cat cars.
Ich würde mich freuen, wenn Sie auf deutsch sprechen würden. Vielen Dank im Voraus.

Another great video with knowledgeable commentary. And if i recall no commercials? Nope just got one
Sorry 🙏😂
In total 5 Bitter SC Sedans where made in total. 4 are left as one burned down (show here) The gray one is prototype nr1
Yep, one day later I got to the display again, and had a chat with owner of the intact car. The burned was as the display too. The silver car was used for almost all promotion shots.
My first car was a Fiesta mk1 1.1L and I thrashed the hell out of it, but I couldn't ever kill it. Parts were so cheap back in the 90s. However it was a pain to work on, the rear lights need deep sockets to remove the internal fan for heating and windscreen went and I had to remove the whole dashboard to get to it. The 1.3l litre engine design was still used in the Ford KA I remeber someone telling me
Ka has derivative of valencia engine same as 957 and 1117, 1300 in a mk1 fiesta is xflow same as mk1 or 2 Escort with an extra mount cast into block
I really love these - unspectacular, but just nice to drive
