I don’t know, I’ve been estranged from most of my family for about 11 years. I did ask my sister to be in the wedding and she accepted, but it takes her weeks to answer messages from me. She caters to my mother who has always been very abusive to me and my mother has to come to the wedding for my sister to be in the wedding. She has declined invitations to visit before the wedding and usually just ignores my messages. I really regret asking her to be a bridesmaid. I really regret telling her it would be OK to bring our mother to my wedding in spite of my past abuse. And I really regret asking her when she’s obviously very disinterested in me and my wedding. I am heavily contemplating telling her that maybe it’s not a good idea, what, with the family estrangement and factions.

I only need one bridesmaid and my fiancé only needs one best man. The day is about us and no one else. Small and intimate for me.

A werid funny fact about me… every two years I’ll write vows to my future husband… I have a boyfriend now (3 years with him) I’m almost 20 so I’m going to rewrite my vows that I would want now.

This maybe crazy but why do I have to make family feel honored and included… when the day is about me. If I prefer my my friends for bridesmaids that should be okay

I love the new mismatched trend. If you pick a color palette and have the girls choose any dress that want within that palette then they can choose something they feel comfortable in and that fits their budget. The only stipulation i would make is it has to be floor length.

This was really helpful, thanks. I have three picked but been worried about which of my other closer friends to ask. I hadn't thought of inviting some to the bachelorette, but not to be in the bridal party. I was thinking it was all or nothing. However, I would not ask family, because my family is not close, and I'm also not close with my fiancé's sisters; that would be really uncomfortable for me. I'd rather have my close friends around me at that time, who will help me relax and plan the kind of fun I really want to have, not what people who don't know me well would plan for me.

I think I have watched all your Petal and Glass videos. Each of them are amazing. You have such wisdom and class. My wife and I were married almost 40 years ago. Our photographer was no different than any other photographer of that generation but I will say that I can tell that you are different in the best possible way. Our photographer cared about the photos he took and I can tell that YOU genuinely care about the couple first and then the photos, thank you. I’m baffled that you do not have a million bazillion views and likes of this video and the rest. The content and quality of all your videos are just amazing. So true about the cake. I had a three-tier cake that I got from our grocery store bakery at $249.00. I'm so glad I bought a few extra dozen of flowers because the person that picked up my cake hit their brakes too hard and yes....the cake went flying off the seat onto its top. The top was ruined but I had flowers and the venue caterers made a beautiful cascading effect with them and no one knew.

*About The Young Bridesmaids * Just select the responsible ones! I was a bridesmaid at 12 years old for my uncle’s wedding, and I helped out with most of the bridesmaid duties. Really depends on the person. (I helped the bride with jewelry, my bridesmaid dress, wedding theme, decor, etc.)

It is interesting to see how different cultures around weddings are. In my country, braidsmaids just wear whatever they want. No fight about styles, nobody feeling uncomfortable in the bride's pick. Everyone pays as much as they can afford and they can reuse the dress for the next wedding.

Yes about the bridesmaids being used as accessories for your wedding day. This is something I definitely worry about and why I chose to only have one bridesmaid. I want the person standing up with me to really want to be there and not feel like they are interchangeable with anyone else in my life. I just feel like having no more than three or four people makes more sense in terms of time and cost. There are other ways to honor your friends and female relatives than by asking them to wear matching chiffon dresses and stand in a line for 20 minutes. And I am helping my bridesmaid pay for her dress because I only think its fair.

I had my 3 sister in laws, and my sister. Plus my niece and nephew. And he had his 2 cousins my brother and my cousin.

I also wonder what your opinion is on this. Obviously if someone has a huge budget or just wants to spend a ton of money on their wedding, do you think it’s even worth it all to spend like $50,000 + just on one day? because isn’t the average wedding in the US usually like $30,000, I feel like that’s so ridiculous for just one day! I understand that sometimes huge weddings may be due to huge families on each side or traditions in the family
