Rifle Care and Maintenance in the Field
The first British magazine use hearkens back to the Lee-Metford on the early Second Boer War when they still initially fought in line formations with volley sights, and it is single loaded in respect organization and cadence of fire with a single magazine issued to be used whenever ordered to fire at will. The issuing of magazines is dropped in the first Lee-Enfields for the first stripper clip use as they fought the Boers with Mausers and they easily saw the practicality of it and almost started issuing the the P13 Mauser-style rifle in a new higher velocity cartridge. It never came back in popularity and issue in the Great War due to economic scale and reliability concerns on horrid environments aside from the occasional use of magazines for static trench rifles, even custom made 20 rounder ones for such purpose. The removable magazine functionality remained in the as it did not inhibit the designs as its later variants and used for maintainability and refurbishing purposes but with magazines that are not universally interchangeable and made no conscious effort in doing so with one often being hand-fitted to a rifle in the inter-wars and throughout WW2
Usgi/duramags are the best looking and looking cool is all that matters. This guy gets it
Awesome video, i prefer a tarp and like to be a minimalist for shelter
Piston driven ar platform then sure, too short of a barrel imo though
Everybodys a badass until theyre cold and wet. Makes you realize what they meant when they say "if it aint raining you aint training"
Knocking these out with how thorough you are, this is the content I wish I had decades ago thanks
@@BlaineKK37 thank you for the support
I almost exclusively use pmags now, ive noticed they run any loads with flat nose bullets like open tip or soft points far better than any other mags I have
Any modern production aluminum mag with magpul followers and quality springs will work and can stay loaded for decades and function
ultimately I watch your channel less for the military advice than for the morality, ethics and values you represent and promote and the core truths that you personify ....your channel is a sign that we can move forward .... and where we can be as people .... men .... trained .. hard, fast, resilient and strong in a society built on these values.
@@ceebee23 cheers mate. Means alot
Mike have you done a video on the chest rig you’re wearing in the video? Thank you for the mag video. Good info.
Great review! Sadly OKAY Industries no longer manufactures any AR-15 magazines...
My first introduction to the L85 would be either STALKER or BF4. Been wanting one since
What are your thoughts on the E lander mags?
Great video, all relevant topics. Remember friends don't let friends do ProMags. Thanks.
I guess even a "mis-gendered" AR can do a good job 😆
One thing I’ve noticed is that the metal usgi mags work better with any mag webbing kit. They slide in and out better and fit better. Duramag is great and their 20 rounders are good for retro builds that actually work.
You should weigh all the mags I'm pretty sure the aluminum ones are lighter then the plastic ones
@@popinmo honestly the other factors are more important in deciding. You need to carry ammo, Get fitter and carry more in the right mag
@@Echo_Mike sorry man im 80 years old i cant carry anymore nore can my wife she is only 4,11 and my son is disabled he cant carry more then 2lbs
Very well done, just the intro got me. Excellent work, solid sub from me, one gun channel to another
Cheers mate, right back at you 💯
Another excellent video from my favorite British import!
I'm a US Army vet introduced to the M16 in '86. In all those years, I've ended up gravitating to PMags, Dura Mags and USGI mags upgraded with Magpul followers/springs. I don't like any mag that "puts your round count on blast" - if YOU can see it, YOUR ENEMY can see it. Also, shiny metal on your kit (ie brass in a "see through" mag) will get you "offed" in a tactical environment
Very informative, thanks for sharing
I don't understand the lightweight statement/ argument for polymer mags. I've weighed them out my USGI production mags from Okay, Brownells, Colt,Center and adventure line and they weigh less then my Pmags gens 2-3 . I feel like its a talking point everyone excepts and doesn't look into. Sure perhaps pound per pound of material used the polymer in a Pmag is lighter but the magazine walls are thicker on the pmags vs the USGI and there are issues with older mag pouches and Pmags regarding mag fitment because of the width.
Play the Gen 3 pmags have TH-cam videos of their testing and they will continue to work just fine when the lips are cracked. I have okay industries pmags And dura mags . Also followers and springs are available from Magpul

FYI on My Isha poor infield it had two tabs that were braised onto the receiver and one onto the magazine so you could not remove the magazine it was rigged to be loaded from the top either loose rounds or stripper Clip
what chest rig and pouches are you wearing? I like how it sits so flat and isn’t bulging out.

11.5” carbine for standard issue? That’s an interesting choice for sure.
The USGI mags I have hold paint just fine for me.
Marpat, dpm and mtp lol love it
Hope the 2022 Russian getting smoked in the intro doesn't hurt monetization 😬
@@RAMZAVFX I’m here to show reality and share info, video got de monetised. I could care less, im keeping it up
In all my years I've only had 1 pmag (m4 gen2) fail, but that was due to it taking a hard drop. Never had any issues with the aluminum gi style ones either aside from occasionally scratching the crap out of my thumb nail while loading fast. For KCI I've only used their glock mags, 1 of 4 was doa and the other 3 had feeding issues with anything heavier than 115gr fmj so they're for training along with the pmags (which have spring bind up issues even after cleaning and using brass case). Just do not get Promag...back when I was young and didn't know much about firearms I got some and none of them were ever reliable or even worked regardless of what platform they went to.
Big fan of M3s, the 20 round M3s can be especially handy.
I got 10 steelies in 1 pack and started noticing random jams. A few range trips later i identified one mag as the culprit. Made exactly the same as the others, but for some reason it was jist a tiny bit wider, so it jammed.
First 3 seconds in and i was like "yep, that got flagged"
@@LSMG2004 they hate reality
For training and practice, SHK mags (Korean new manufacture HK steel mag clones) are a steal at 6 dollars a pop. They're heavy as shit though.
@3:01 i am curious to know, if lets say it’s an ambush scenario; the enemy has a beat on you. What is the logic behind the 1st step being running in a “zig zag” before you get down as oppose to hitting the dirt immediately?
Great video, I am hoping to try out the new Magpul T-mags soon. I love magpuls and my okay industries.
Fantastic presentation. Well done! Cheers!
