East Broad Top - A Return to Steam!!!!

In February 2023, the East Broad Top Railroad in Central Pennsylvania held their Winter Spectacular. The event was used to celebrate the return of Mikado #16 which had just undergone a complete rebuild. The engine hadn’t run in revenue service since 1956.

The Reading & Northern ran their third Ramble between Reading Outer Station and Jim Thorpe and return. Due to the Double Header, a relief crew was not available so a pair of the railroad’s Fast Freight SD50s handled the train between Port Clinton and North Reading on the return trip. 32:20, I went to that spot because I thought they were gonna turn the train the other way, but got lucky because I still needed a shot of it crossing over the Lehigh Line, good job!

Excellent video Jillian and equally excellent chasing Dad. You both did an awesome job. I know the next two are starting in the Scranton area. Do you know if they’ll leave Port Clinton early in the morning the same day, or go up the night before?
Haven’t heard but my guess is they’ll take the engine to Jim Thorpe the day before and service it there before going to Nesquehoning for departure. But again, just a guess
Is there a roster for all the passenger equipment and diesels?
The railroad has a webpage but not sure if it’s all equipment or just engine roster on there

Correct, they use both about equally
why do they use the switcher to get it out of the roundhouse if its already under its own power
From what the crew said it’s to key the engine clean until it arrives at Reading.
this video is very underrated. the shots you got in some of those locations are just amazing! ive never seen video taken in some of those spots before!

Jeez...What's not to love here ? I'm having difficulties, differentiating between former GTW 6325 and 2102. Both of which are stunning examples of REAL Steam railroading.
