I'm pretty proud of them and glad people enjoy the theme 😄 it's got me excited to make more multibases in Blender for 3D printing.

There are definitely select ranges that are good, and other factions that are mid to terrible. I should make a video of it!

@@CaffeinatedWarlord yeah, I'm starting with Rifties, NA, Basilians, and Twilight Kin... I want to get elves, but the sculpts are really not great. Definitely do a video, I'd watch it.

They're fine, but they do feel tacked on, which is what they are. A new edition with these actually a part of the mechanics like in Firefight is where it can work. For instance instead of faction specific orders, orders unique to characters adds a lot of flavour, especially in place of auras.

@@CaffeinatedWarlord I understand the idea behind adding them, but Kings of War for me thrived best in its simplicity. I feel this is best as an optional ruleset for specific scenarios or points levels.

@oidussus7220 maybe something just for ambush? Simplicity is key to Kings, and when it's a big game there's usually enough going on already.

@@CaffeinatedWarlord Yeah, I think that ambush would be a good level for it, small enough to make each point really matter. At a certain point for larger games, I can't see them being too critical with so many extra units on the board to support

@ this is all just my opinion as a salamander player of course. Their damage output is roughly the same even after you consider vicious it may be like .5-.75 in the komodons favor BUT after considering the lack of steady aim the ambrox takes the lead for one key reason, their ability to meaningfully contribute to supplementary shooting while also being in a position to chaff. Something Komodons simply can’t do IF you are using their range attacks full effectiveness. This is important because salamanders are like the Spartans, they need every piece to be in unison and Komodons are just out of place and at 345pts for a full battery. These reasons are why you see Lekelidons FAR more than Komodons.

@watchtowergaming5285 the ability for ambarox to chaff is their major usefulness, you are right. Probably best not to always just look at the damage output, but hey, I like to shoot things

​@@CaffeinatedWarlordas far as I know yes, also the Conjurer's Staff would also work on HSB. (I had the RC getting involved on a fanatics post a while ago, the unique spells are the six from that table, not spells [1])

In the new Cok, all spells with a [1] are now considered unique

It adds just a little more to the way you can affect the game. A reroll here, a brutal there. It's not too taxing on the brain but it will help to have the orders on the army list output from the companion. One does need to invest in at least one extra command dice to reliably use anything of 4 command points or more. Dan got great value out of his red and white dice as he could use the Low Blows order nearly every turn!

Yeah I wasn't a fan once I realized I had no way of winning.. my fault for not rushing up but unfortunately my army doesn't like splitting up. It always ends in disaster!

The Lord of Lies model is incredible but the bonus it brings beyond a standard archfiend probably isn't worth it. It loses access to magical items, gains slayer 3 and shuts down auras. That can be great against halflings and twilight kin, and then useless against Ogres or Elves. I will likely just use the model (which I have on the way) as an archfiend, because it's incredible.

They're just the right kind of addition, not too complicated and reasonably impactful. If the general orders and the faction orders come included on the companion army list output, it will be perfect.

Welcome to the KoW collective! Once the rules click, it's very hard to play things so complicated again. Would these Pygmies with blowpipes be auxiliaries for the Halflings?

@@CaffeinatedWarlord no like the WHFB old version the pygmies were allies to the slann I always wanted a full pygmy force it was always an army i wanted to put together (not a serious thought just a wouldnt it be cool thing)

@tianman I didn't know that about the Lizardmen! Personally I would be excited by something entirely different like Samurai Vampires from the East brought across by Mhorgoth during his exile (Mantic Universe Podcast's idea!)

And I think I had it easy! Lists like Florence's with all those gladestalkers would have made a porcupine of my legionaries

It was purely based on the models I had. Annoyingly the army box only came with three Thunderseers, so I would need to buy more (this was before the Vault). Since I was already set on Helstrikers, the Shrine and even bought a Stormslayer, I felt I had spent enough on resin models! I actually think the Thunderseers are powerful, as they are one of the few units with Pathfinder and they have a lot of attacks. The only downside to them is their Spellward means the Shrine will struggle to Bane Chant them, and they really need Bane Chant as they are only Crushing Strength (1). Now I've got three more I will go about making a horde! Right after I finish painting all the Trident Realm I have 😅 And yes, many teachable moments haha!

Riftforged are cool! I reckon they need a bit more fluff to really flesh out the army lore. Like who is Thonaar? Why is he so powerful? What's a Riftwalker? Glad you're enjoying the videos :)

11th out of 23 players, I think he just needed to warm up a bit with the army and he started doing quite well.

@SingledOutPodcast my thoughts exactly. I don't think it's a bad theme list, it's just compared to other theme lists it has very few original units so feels more like half Ratkin half abyssal dwarfs

It's improving but definitely still the idea of using other models prevails. Personally I find a lot of what mantic has great value for money and just the right level of detail for my painting level, so it's win win

I may just wind up collecting KoW, Warpath, Deadzone, and Hellboy just because, and then search for opponents. The battle boxes are a good deal! Edit: I'd collect multiple armies for each game, so my opponent just needs to bring themselves. Love Riftforged/Greenskins especially. Ogres as well. Such a fantastic business model and product lines!

@SableTwoSeven even the old Orcs aren't bad. They are light on detail and have annoying integrated little bases around their feet, but they paint up super quick. I like your approach. And it's a good excuse to do a lot of hobby haha

@SableTwoSeven not sure what part of the US you're in, but here in the upper Midwest the scene is pretty good! There are also strong groups out east and out west

Excellent question. Personally, I enjoy how Kings of War evokes the look of a mass battles game but streamlines the actual gameplay by treating each unit as a single entity. This enables three things that I now really love about Kings of War: 1 - Dynamic multibasing and the ability to create exciting diorama-esque unit bases. So far my favourite I have created is that for my Goblins, but I have plans for my Abyssals to be raiding a frozen village! 2 - Quick gameplay from start to finish. Setting up and finishing games takes five minutes, and moving units around when they're a solid base with models glued right is so smooth. Nothing falling over, no movement tray lips, no unit reforming and resizing. 3 - Smooth ruleset. With units being the main entities, things like combat and shooting are so easy to calculate. Each unit has as set number of attacks, doesn't matter about frontage or templates or how many are within an inch. Just Unit A has charged, Unit A has 15 attacks, roll 15 dice. No arguments, no other ways to interpret the numbers. There's more stuff but I guess I should make a video! :D

Yeah we looked through the books, not just the companion and indeed the slaves are without their rally. Makes sense in a way, but definitely changes their value.

Thanks! As the evil version of the storm cast, I like how they've also taken to "riftforging" giants, trolls and cyclops. Why did Sigmar just do humanoid sized things when he could have grabbed heroic gargants?

It's always tricky trying something non-fantasy for a fantasy game when it comes to theme. Don't want it to feel forced or immersion breaking, and I can understand that some people will still think that about my army, but most of all I'm glad you like it Gad :) forever grateful that you let me borrow your minis last year!

The genre and game style persisted, but for the brand new gamer walking into a hobby store in most places around the world... They would only see 40K and Age of Sigmar on the shelves and think that's the only way you use miniatures in wargaming, which was the main aspect I was lamenting. If new people have to know about rank and flank somehow and actively search for it on the internet, then that's a very unlikely situation without a friend already doing it. At least now there's Old World there to show another way of playing, and now they will look at either alternative games like Old World, or alternative miniatures for Old World, and discover all the other wonderful games out there!

On a personal level I agree with you, but I think it's also the rise of many Rank and Flank games like A Song of Ice and Fire and Conquest as well. GW realised they left that market wide open and have regrets now 😂

It's a very diverse and tempting army list. I just got a bunch of zombie trolls, and 80 zombies on the way, so might try next the zombie formation with trolls and the vicious aura!

@bringbattlewargaming8720 you and me both! Werewolves are so hard to use, but when they work it's incredibly satisfying. I think the trickiest thing is that the army doesn't really have a chaff unit that can run with them. A horde of Revenants will eventually join the army. So many things!

Shutting down the Bane Chant/Barkskin source completely changed the prospects for those fanatics. That wizard is a great support unit but perhaps keep it on horse? Then my Ambaroxen would be hitting it on 6s in cover.
