Ezra and Nehemiah: Set Up and Overview and Worldwide Giveaway #garphillgames #boardgames
Ezra and Nehemiah is a thematic game that brings you into the land of Israel during the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem, the rebuilding of the Temple, and the teaching of the Torah. Become the most renowned servant and helper the Israelites ever had, turning your hard work into wealth that will earn you a place in history.
One of the things I loved about this game is how the mechanisms seamlessly blend with the theme, making it a breeze to learn and teach. If you're a fan of combo-driven, worker placement, and tech track mechanisms, Ezra and Nehemiah is a game you won't want to miss.
I have put together an easy-to-follow setup video to help answer any setup questions and provide a light overview of the game. We will also be giving away a free copy of Ezra and Nehemiah to one lucky subscriber. Please read the rules below to understand how and what will happen with the giveaway.
Thanks again for watching, and always, have fun and enjoy your day.

Expeditions: A sequel to SCYTHE looks amazing! I pre-ordered this game the moment Stonemaier opened their site for orders, but sad to say, it sat on my shelf UNTIL NOW. I didn't feel like I had explored the original game as much as I would have liked, and I wanted to give Scythe the love it deserved. But when the expansion game came out and I pre-ordered it, I knew it was time for me to get thi...

The reign of the kingdom is over, but who will arise victorious. Wow, what a fun series of interesting decisions, history, and great gameplay. In my opinion, Viscounts is underrated in the West Kingdom series, but it has a high BGG rating nonetheless. Congrats!!!
Congrats to the winner! Looking forward to what comes next 😁
I know one thing that’s next. I have an extra copy of EandN that I need to find a home for in the Us/Canada 😄
I would love to try a roll & write version of this!
If you like Cascadia, I know you’ll like it
Thank you for watching and subscribing
Cascadia is great and this looks like an awesome R&W version!
I got Cascadia rolling rivers out last night. If you like a roll and Right games you will love these games. Thanks for watching. Thanks for subscribing.
I would pick The White Castle first because I have heard so many of my online friends say how great of a game it is, really piques my interest. Thanks for the chance!
I’m excited about it. I’ve not yet played it, but I love the theme and the artwork.
We love this game in our household, it’s probably my 8 year old daughter’s favourite!
Cascadia is such a great game. It’s easy and inviting enough for non-gamers, but strategic enough for anyone. That’s awesome that your daughter likes it. How many kids do you have?
did the giveaway a;ready ended?
Sadly, yes, but I just started a Cascadia rolling giveaway and we’re going to continue with the white castle giveaway. It’s just taking me a lot longer to get the videos made. I definitely appreciate you watching and commenting.
Guess I need to go find the weight and time play on this. Not thrown off by this one yet, but not sucked in yet either. 😊
It is 1.8/5 at a 15-30 min playtime. I would consider this to be a filler game. I think you would really enjoy it. Roll/flip and write games are a lot of fun.
That is tolerable. I do have some roll n write games already. Laminated the pages and take them on vacation (easy storage in a suitcase)
What is your favorite roll/flip and write game?
I don't know that catan dice counts (but we do like that one too) so I would say Harvest dice. We have imperial settlers, but it's still in the 'shame' spot.
Great unboxing Will!
Have you played the original Cascadia?
I've never played any of the Cascadias. I bet they would be great to play with my parents.
It is a great light game but also has a random scoring cards that create different wind conditions for each game. So I think it’s a perfect game for gamers and gamers. I would definitely start off with the original game because that’s the OG
I have a question for you. Do you live in the US?
@@TableTheGame yes I do.
Great. I’m giving you and another subscriber a Cascadia rolling game. This isn’t part of the giveaway, I just wanted to bless a couple people. Which one do you want HILLS or RIVERS? It may take a week or two to film, but then I’ll send it to you
@@TableTheGame oh thank you! That's awesome. I think Rivers would be awesome. Thank!
You don't say how to enter the giveaway. And ... music is loud.
Hey David, on the description for the video, I have all the rules. But I believe you can only see the description if you’re on a desktop (for shorts) But just so you know you have just entered into the giveaway. I will be doing a number of videos and most of them will have something specific to do. Also, I do appreciate your feedback. May I ask is the music loud in general or loud compared to other shorts?
@@TableTheGame It was loud compared to everything else I hear. Looks like Description is hidden behind the 3 dots. But I see it now.
Would love to get Rolling Rivers!!
That's the one I'm most interested in. I haven't opened rolling hills yet, but looking forward to it
I like the overall theme of the game but with mechanics, I’m always a fan of replayability. The scroll tiles and varieties in the different combinations you can have seem to allow for lots of replayability and figuring out which combos are best.
You are the only one so far to mention the scroll tiles. They are very similar to monastery tiles on Castles of Burgundy and sometimes like building tiles on Castles of Burgundy. They either give you an immediate effect or they change some rules for the rest of the game for you only. I guess because I love Castles of Burgundy I love this part of the game. thanks for watching and I really appreciate your comment
I love chaining combos. Gives off so much dopamine when you just get rewards on top of rewards off one action. This game actually reminds me a lot of Hadrian's Wall but with better variety just based on the possible board setups.
I want to play Hadrian‘s Wall so bad. I know the Anarchy is about to come out on Kickstarter. Are you going to back it?. From what I have heard it is Hadrian’s Wall, spiritual successor.
@@TableTheGame Oh I forgot all about it actually haha. Hmmmm I don't actually know too much about it though. I'll have to take a look at how it differs from Hadrian's Wall.
Whoa, set up was alot! Did you end up playing the whole game after doing the setup and bit o'rules? If so, who won??
Hey Autter😀 I did not play after setting up the game, I did that for the video. But at game night last week we played and I came in third place (out of 4)sadly. This game starts off slow and ramps up in round two and three. But I wasn’t really able to ramp up until round three which messed me up. Im not as good with chaining and combos because Im to hasty with decisions .
The White Castle first! Dice drafting, short and tight euro, sounds very tactical with fast play! I like the japanese theme and art too
I’m exited about it, I’m about to start red cathedral, then the White Castle. What is your favorite Euro?
@@TableTheGame Probably Concordia - very simple ruleset, and no "blocking", but it rewards very efficient plays and positioning
That’s been on my list for a long time. I’ve passed it many times at the game store one day I’ll get it.
I really like the varied ways in which worker placement is used, placing and saving workers strategically can really save a round, and the way it's balanced by the feeding mechanic.
Yeah, Garphill games are masters at workplacement. It is one of my favorite mechanisms
I like how the worker cards need to be converted to scoring cards, and you have to debate whether or not its worth sacrificing the banners and trading for a small permanent banner and points!
To me that was the hardest decision in the game. They mentioned it in the rules and I was like how hard could that be 😂
Thanks for watching and subscribing. If you have any feedback or recommendations, I would love to hear about it. Also, there is EandN unboxing video that is part of this giveaway.
Favorite mechanism is definitely the banner system. Love the feeling of actions getting stronger!
Yeah, it builds and builds. Super cool
Multi-use cards would be my favorite mechanic. One of the best examples is Rove from Button Shy Games. Each card uses the front and back sides and the expansions for it just adds sooooo much variety in a small card game.
That’s cool. I hadn’t heard of Rove before. I see there’s a lot of expansions. Is there a particular way you like to play it with certain expansions or just the base? Thanks for your comment
I remember where I’ve seen button shy games. They make really cool solo card games in a small fold out pouch. I really want to play some of those games
@@TableTheGame I fell in love with Rove just playing the base. After getting all the expansions, it hard to go back to base just thanks to the variety and additional challenge with VERY little additional rules.
I would start with Red Cathedral. Fascinating theme that’s quite distinct from many other euros. Mind you, Ezra and Nehemiah would be a close runner-up. It's very difficult to make good games with Biblical themes, but this one seems to have succeeded. 🎉
Red cathedral is coming up soon. I did start with Ezra and nehemiah. I was able to text back-and-forth via discord with the designer and they may make another biblical themes game and I suggested David. What do you think?
@@TableTheGame Hmm ... David would work, sure. I think there are perhaps a couple of other possibilities: - The exodus from Egypt (where the expansion might be taking the Promised Land, though that's a bit loaded these days.) - The spread of Christianity in the 1st Century
That’s good stuff. But I agree with you. It’s hard to make a good biblical game.
Fav mechanic: I'm a sucker for multi-use cards. They really make for interesting choices.
I’m the same. Since Dune imperium, I have really enjoyed multi use cards. And Boy does this game have multi use cards. The thing that I think you would like is that every round you have to discard one to two of your cards that you can no longer use during your turns. It does come with an ongoing effect, but the decision on which card to discard makes it very interesting
Love your setup videos, they are always clear and easy to follow. I think the combos are something that I will enjoy, reminds me somewhat of the White Castle. But I have also come to really like multi-use cards, so I am looking forward to those as well.
I really appreciate the feedback. A lot of the video stuff is new to me. I'm with you, multi-use cards are really cool and this game’s cards have a lot of different uses which makes the decisions for these cards ao important.
@@TableTheGame Ya I think Revive was the first to really get me excited for the multi-use cards. Then a couple games since have really made me enjoy it more.
Love multi use cards... I am never the best at this as I always want to save a card for something else when I would be better to use it sooner... Kinda like items in old school Final Fantasy games... Always saved that elixir and never used them
You would have a hard time with this one. After each round you have to discard a card from your hand (2 cards on round 2), this does give you an on going ability, but you loose other abilities the card offers. It is a tough decision.
Great video, i would probably start with Ezra and Nemiah cause i'm really intrigued by the setting
The theme is amazing. The designers did such a great job
I really like the wall cards are managed, moreover the game is overall SO MUCH thematic, i love it!
If you like that, there is so much more to the game then what I spoke about.
I would have to say the chaining and combos looks the most intriguing!
I love it. Trying to find the right thing to do to maximize your turn
I get scared looking at a game like this but it definitely looks really fun. Just need to find a few people who are happy to invest some time to understand the game with me. I do like a game with resources, victory points and worker placement
You have to have the right group, but this game has it all, resources, VP, and worker placement. You'll like it .
Chaining and combo ia definitely the most interesting mechanism. Overall, very heavy game and seems like a steep learning curve. Feels like one of those that you need to play a test game to get your head around it
that’s how I played my first game. I wasn’t really concerned about winning just understanding the game. Maybe that’s why I lost 😆 But for more difficult game, it is extremely intuitive and not hard to remember the rules.
The many different tracks in this game are very intriguing. Being new to heavier type games, I haven’t played a game that you had to manage so many different tracks. Kinda seems overwhelming, but also exciting at the same time. Thanks for doing these setup/overview videos and doing awesome giveaways of these great games!
Just jump in 😆
I would play Ezra and Nehemiah first. I e been enjoying the heavier play games lately. Plus having a bible themed game that is getting so much buzz in the board game world is awesome!!
You would love it, the theme comes alive which makes it easy to pick up, but there is a lot to think through if you want to do well.
Awesome video Will! The components in this game look super high quality with amazing artwork! Love chaining, combos and worker placement! 👏😺
Thanks. I learn so much about peoples taste with these questions. Most people that have responded love chaining, and combos in games.
appreciate you
Very complex game with alot going on and I love it!! Chaining and combo keeps you thinking and thats what I like about this kind of game
I realized playing tnis game that I need to get better at chaining/ combos. I act to hastily at these games 😀 appreciate your thoughts
Chaining & combos? I think a lot of the interesting decisions will come from trying to get all the things you want and building for bigger plays in an area.
I agree, I struggle to maximize though 😆
This game somehow reminds me of hadrians wall. I do like worker placement games ❤
yeah, I want to play Hadrian‘s wall. A lot of people seem to really like it. I heard Anarchy is like it’s spiritual successor. Have you heard anything about Anarchy
The chasing mechanism, thanks for the giveaway!
I believe you’re talking about the altar track. The altar track requires your attention for the entire game because every round you’ll be judged bybthe prophets if you’re not far enough along, and it is also a tiebreaker. Whoever’s furthest along, the altar track always wins the tiebreaker. good choice.
Congratulations @doc_adam you have won a free copy of Ezra and Nehemiah. Please respond to this message and I will get you set up. You have 48hrs. Have a great day.
@@TableTheGame AMAZING! Thank you, so much. Let me know what details you need and email etc to contact you.
@doc_adam please send me a email to Tablethegame1@gmail.com Name and address you would like the game sent to
@@TableTheGame thanks, I can't wait to play
I think chaining and combos is my favorite mechanic! There is a lot going on!
The combos are the most important part for winning the game. Sad to say that’s the part I struggled with.😆
Ezra and Nehemiah is the only one of the three I haven't played and don't own, so definitely that one! It looks so good. Devir and Garphill are my favorite publishers
That's cool, I'm about to play the Red Cathedral soon. If you like Garphill, I'm sure you'd like EandN.
Love the theme of Ezra and Nehemiah, and I may also be a sucker for the art style hehe. Is the giveaway still going, have I missed it? 😂
You are just in time. I filmed the set up video today and probably release it sometime after Wednesday of next week. Please turn your notifications on because they’ll be a lot more giveaways after this as well. Have a wonderful evening and thanks for watching.
Btw, it’s my favorite Garphill game. A lot to think about, but great theme and great mechanics
Can't wait to try this one out! Looks amazing!
this is an extremely interesting game. You have so many options and choices. it is extremely thematic, which always draws me in.
Looks great!!!
If you like choices, you would like this game
The White Castle first. Not the heaviest, and the nicer theme. FWIW, your background music is too loud.
Thanks for the feedback, I thought it probably was too loud, trying to find the that right spot…..👍
I would play Ezra and Nehemiah first, because I love the theme and the mechanics sounds very interesting🎉🎉
I completely agree. The theme drew me in, and I’m sure mechanics will tie in nicely
Always wanted to try out this one!
I really enjoyed this one. Especially if you have kids or you want a quick light game with a light theme.
The White Castle first because I have heard great things almost first is Ezra and Nehemiah, a nit intimidated by the extensive learning curve, but as someone in a Christian household, I know that they'll be working hard to understand and play this with me. Appreciate the opportunity!
I feel ya. My go to weight is 3 out of 5 and EandN is almost 4/5, but I love the theme and I love Garphilll games. A lot of times I get intimidated until I start digging into the rules and find its fairly intuitive. W shall see. welcome to the channel. I appreciate your input.
Harmonies look amazing to be honest!!
White Castle first, really like the chain effects. Almost sounds like a roll and write with the combos.
I can't wait to get this game to the table. Devir has come up with some really good game lately.
I love all of them, heard so many good things about them all, so hard to pick one over the other. If push comes to shove, I would go for Ezra and Nehemiah as I like a game that is rich thematically and heavy on mechanics
I figured you would choose EandN 😆. Have you had the chance to open Paladins?
@@TableTheGame Not yet. Everyone is busy during the eofy, hard to get everyone around the table 🥲
Cool, are you in finance or accounting?
@@TableTheGame Architect hence why I liked the Architect game as well 😂
That's right, I knew that
