Cold Process Soap, A Losing Battle with Discoloration
I took my chances with a fragrance oil that discolors to tan thinking my micas and TD might be pigmented enough to mostly compensate. Snapped pics before the inside could turn, but it’s turning! 😬

I went to Playa del Carmen! A hurricane hit that evening. That night, before it hit, the beach had beautiful, powerful waves and an ominous darkness in the distance. We had to stay in our rooms with the doors and windows shut and locked from 10pm to 10am. I was amazed at the hardworking resort staff who worked tirelessly to have the resort mostly cleaned up the following day. What an experience...

Very pretty design! Question- I've watched several of your videos- do you not measure your fragrances (run them through a soap calculator) ? Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, no I don’t measure the fragrance. I know how much is in the bottle, so I am comfortable with how much I add. I also don’t sell my soap.
I have fragrance like that and they have never turned out the way I wanted. I checked on the vanilla stabilizers, but I'm not paying $30 for 4 oz of the stabilizer when you have to use a 1-2 ratio depending on the amount of vanilla in the fragrance. Plus that's like making 2 good size batches and you just spent $30. How do you add the price to your soap for that ??? I'd rather have tan to brown soap with other colors. The soap you just made still turned out beautiful !
Thank you. I should have worked with the discoloration like I usually do, but I decided to test my luck. Lesson learned. It’s a great fragrance, I’ll just use it for autumn colors next time. 😁

Yes, I could have made it without fragrance. I like pretty smelling soap though 😊
Hopefully the inside stays vibrant because it's gorgeous. It must be the level of darkening because I've done that with lightly darkening fragrances and the TD and vivid colors hid it.
Yeah the inside is turning too. Last time I used this fragrance I didn’t think it discolored nearly as much. I may have to try these colors again with a fragrance that doesn’t discolor.
Been there; done that!! The only luck I ever had was black with bright/neon pink, which turns into red. 🤷♀️ Yours is still pretty though
It was so pretty when I poured it that I forgot until the next day when I saw the top! 🤣 usually I try to work with discoloration instead of fighting it

This soap is so Regal and rich looking, I absolutely love it. 😍😍 Question: I used MM water soluble TD the other day. A dream to dissolve in the water but when I added it to my soap batter it did not blend well but went just into little white blobs. Once I stick blended it it went in beautifully but then it traced very quickly and I had wanted to swirl. I notice u just whisked it in. Wondering what I did wrong??
I did whisk it initially, but then used the blender. TD always has to be stick blended. There unfortunately is no way around it. My best advice is to keep your batter thin and blend it only as much as needed to get it to incorporate. I also never use a fragrance that I know accelerates when I use TD. I have a lot of butters in my recipe so I understand the struggle with trace.

Oooooo weeeeee, you knocked this one out of the park. In the colder months, I do CPOP and do an additional 5% water discount to my usual discount when using a lot of TD and almost never get glycerin rivers. The thumbnail is all that fit onto my screen and I knew it was you! Great job!
I struggle with the water discount because of the butters, but I should plan better. Haha. It wasn’t the worst I’ve had. LOL

It definitely fades but not entirely. It seems to come out again when the soap is used. I don’t like the way any supplier’s pear fragrance behaves in soap though. None behave well that I have tried.

This looks perfect ❤ What brand is your immersion blender? Mine just broke, and I only used it 13 times, so I need a new one.
It is literally one of the cheapest ones on Amazon. Elite Gourmet. I have two others but this is my favorite because it is so lightweight. It doesn’t have variable speed so I have to be very careful about trace. I’m on my second one. The first lasted about 3 years before the seal broke and I started to get a lot of bubbles.
