    I just did mine today with your video as a rough guide, My GT had front end damage, so it wasn't straightforward, and I had to ducttape the assembly and essentially pressure fit it since the places where it hooks up on were all destroyed, its on for now but I'll bolt them in place when I have time, I'll just spray paint the screwheads black lolol. But 5k for a GT is great! The work I put into it makes it that much more rewarding.

    • @SoloRoosterGarage
      @SoloRoosterGarage 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's possible, but I would attribute it more to just age of vehicle in general. The pinion seal is a rubber based seal, and rubber degrades over time.

    This is possible, but quite challenging on the 2.8l V6 30v. My timing belt only had 20k miles since the last change (still very stiff) so it was necessary to slide the belt out about 1/2" on the passenger side cam pulley and a 1/4" on the center small pulley - in order to get the housing back in. I went with an aluminum housing (URO Parts 078121121J) and these are far superior. The original plastic housing (217k miles) was visibly warped at the thermostat gasket boss. I measured the aluminum one against the original one and almost all the dimensions that matter where within .010. You definitely need to loosen the 3 -4 bolts holding the passenger side inner timing cover, one is hidden behind the bottom of the timing gear, so you may need to rotate the engine by hand at the crank nose to get access through one of the openings in the belt gear). You must move the secondary air bracket (attached at the alternator) back out of the way. I also removed the top pulley (water pump), you do not need a special tool - the center hole take a 9mm hex and you just use two ratchets. I put some 6" long bolts in for the service position support, and crammed in some small 3" wood spacers at the attachment points (from the inside) since the hoses and wires want to keep pulling it back into position. You definitely need as much space as possible to get leverage in fishing the housing back in, as well as getting the secondary air bracket reattached. It is best if you have a light and look directly down to see the top of thermostat protruding as you are muscling the housing back in against the belt (to clear the thermostat). You don't want the wipe out the thermostat or the beveled edge on the housing that seals against the thermostat o-ring by pounding on it - otherwise it will be prone to leak. This was the hardest part, fighting the belt and getting a good angle for leverage. I have done the complete timing belt/water pump and related parts (in a kit) a few years ago, and it is quite involved. This was a pain, but definitely quicker than having to remove the belt and all the related components. Gotta use ramps to get at stuff from the bottom.

    should preload be measured with a full case of fluid ? my pinion has been leaking for some time probably needs a top up before, if its required for this procedure?

    • @SoloRoosterGarage
      @SoloRoosterGarage 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ideally yes, you would set the pinion preload without fluid. In reality, it won't hurt anything to leave the fluid in, then top off when done. Most differentials have the pinion bearings high enough where they are only lubricated when the ring gear is spinning and flinging fluid. Since a bearing's preload is a range instead of a hard number, the amount of fluid still in the bearings at rest should not affect the preload. Be sure to use a new crush sleeve when setting the preload. This requires removing the outer pinion bearing and using a magnet to remove the old crush sleeve.

    • @brettmurphy1990
      @brettmurphy1990 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @SoloRoosterGarage thanks for your reply man, spoke to a mechanic I know I think he may have misunderstood what I was asking him but he said to me that I shouldn't be putting preload on worn bearings, he said to just mark it and put the nut back in the same place but that just seems like a way to cut corners. Just so i can confirm my understanding with you, using the deflecting beam t/w for pre load is measuring the amount of torque it takes to turn the diff? Or is it measuring how much torque it takes to crack the nut ?

    • @SoloRoosterGarage
      @SoloRoosterGarage 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @brettmurphy1990 Counting the threads/putting the nut back in place IS cutting corners, and can lead to further damage in the future (happened to me). Even worn/used bearings have a preload spec. The deflecting beam torque wrench is used to measure the force required to turn the differential (this is the preload). For the Ford 8.8, the used bearing preload should be 8-14 lb-in.

      The text was blurred because the wrong torque specs were listed in the video. I did not realize this until later on, hence the blurring. It was implied that removing the wheels and pads was to reduce any mass before taking a preload measurement.

    Is it useful on the rubber seals if your vehicle

      Yes, it can be used to lubricate o rings and seals. Before using, check the label to see if it has any warnings about what fluids your dielectric grease should not come in contact with. I prefer to use whatever fluid the o ring is going to be in contact with (oil for oil, coolant for coolant, etc.)

    Hello, thanks for sharing, I have the same one from 2002, I'm also going to install a radio, but what I liked the most was the center console where the cup holders go, where did you buy it???

      The center console is something I've been creating myself. It's still in the development phase.

    Boys driver side door is very hard to open from the outside. It feels like you have to pull up on the handle to the point it will break! Is there an adjustment for this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance

      There is some adjustment in the lever rod the handle acts on. The previous video I did on this should show it (link is in the description). You'll be looking for a yellow tab on a connector that holds the handle rod to the latch mechanism. This tab opens up a grooved holder, and the handle rod can be adjusted inside this connector. If memory serves, you will want to "push" the handle rod as far up in the connector as possible, then close the yellow tab. This should allow the exterior handle to open the latch sooner in its travel arc.
