Hey Worcester use their own language known as BUS which is its own opentherm. So your boiler definitely won't have opentherm but it could use BUS language which allows you to use Worcesters own fancy thermostats to its advantage. However with it being 10 years old its safe to assume this wouldn't be possible. In this case I would recommend the hive or nest simply for their remote capabilities and smart home integration

@@iheat really helpful thanks, i love the look of the nest but having seen your content i think i'm gonna go for the hive mini if opentherm not part of the equation. It looks pretty smart and hopefully same backplate on the receiver as the current one on my Worcester so an easy / quick switch for whoever does it (I know you can't recommend DIY)

Hey the receiver is rather similar but not the same. We cannot recommend you install the receiver yourself but there are plenty of videos out there that will show you how, but please do at your own risk

Hey it sounds like you have a normal filling loop, can you see a coiled pipe with two black taps on it

I'm afraid you'll have to speak to Hive on this one, not something I'd be clued up on. I'd recommend just using TRV's for this issue, most likely cheaper too

If this originally worked and nothing has changed on your system it sounds like an issue with the receiver and will need replacing. I would suggest contacting the installation company or Hive yourself

Im sure vaillant will have their own controls which would be more optimal for your exact system (might be worth ringing them to see what they have to offer). However I will always back up the Hive, solid technology and the simplicity of the app is to die for

Yes you can. It's just simply a case of wiring the receiver in the correct way.

I'm afraid each new thermostat will need a new receiver unless it was the same model. You'd be best buying an old CM927 controller off ebay etc and re-pairing to save on cost. However if its quite an old thermostat you may be best biting the bullet and purchasing the whole T3R / T4R package

When you say app not working do you mean not connecting to your hive system or just in general? Keeps crashing etc or never loading

I have everything working correctly but can't use app as my phone (android) or my wife (apple) can't connect/pair with thermostat, I tried everything,uninstalling /reinstalling/updates still can't connect.. pairing pairing and nothing happening.horible device if I'm honest

I do apologise for this, what issues are you facing? The fixes we covered in this video were just common issues that didn't really need visuals (changing batteries and holding the only button on the receiver). More deeper issues like wiring which may need visuals we can't advise customers to do themselves and only be a trained electrician. Would love to follow up this video with a more visual guide on any issues you are facing on your hive, thank you for the feedback and we will be sure to emulate this on the next one!

17 rads is very high! I'd always go with the higher model just for confidence and comfort. You don't want to be stretching with a 7 bed house.

This sounds very unusual! Was your water supply on, were any bleed points on radiator open, if not sounds like an issue with the filling system or at worst a leak (but you'd still hear something going on if this was the case) I'd definitely get in touch with whomever installed the boiler. Is it definitely a keyless filling loop you are dealing with? Some boilers have two of these on a filling loop (normally black taps) and both need to be open

Hey do you mean none of your radiators at all? Has your pressure dropped from bleeding radiators on boiler. Or do you mean just the new rads, is the lockshield closed on them allowing no water in?

Completely agree, this video isn't for engineers its a DIY for customers at home to try before calling out the real deal haha. Ideal world you'd have the gradual drop in temp from one side to the other. But for the price of said thermometers for a customer you may as well just pay an engineer to come round and sort it

This is completely different situation to situation, unfortunately I have to recommend you speak to Nest directly about the savings as they will have been able to test this in depth. From what I hear they are leaving the UK support anyways so may be best with Hive for the long run

​@@iheatnest are not that helpful. My nest thermostat would not connect to the heatlink. Nest said it was faulty and left it there. Quite appaling service

From what I understand NEST is now leaving the UK so I imagine it will only get more complicated as you mention

6 thermostats??? That sounds a lot! I would recommend the one thermostat with smart TRV's on each radiator. This would then act the same but A.) not cost as much and B.) be less messing around with receivers etc at the boiler

Are you using a Combi boiler? And what are your kitchen / bathroom taps like. If same issue occurs it will eliminate the mixer from the equation.

@iheat yes combi. No just the shower is the issue. Possibly pressure isn't a good as it once was but water very warm

Interesting to hear this, is it possible the 1000 performs quicker than the 17 year old boiler so whilst it does make a lot of noise, it isn't working or making the noise as long as the last one? I know the higher spec models have the quiet mark accreditation but I could understand them cutting some corners on the lower end of the scale

I would love to see a boiler installed in a castle, but you are correct that is mostly the case nowadays, oversizing to future proof, would you rather be oversized or undersized in a few years. Opentherm admittedly is a shame on the Worcester Range but with the introduction of their own stat with BUS language, could be a game changer since this video was released.

@@iheat This relies on other thermostats having support for just one boiler maker. In the Netherlands, they just mandated Opentherm support and BW offers that feature but not the UK or Ireland. Is BW saying that the concept OT is trying to end up with better gas efficiency is wrong? Why make a Boiler+ standard and then make OT optional to install. Even then Hive does not even support OT like many other "smart" thermostats.

As far as I'm aware no vaillant will offer it stock but with added modules it can be achieved. Apologies if they've since released a new model that doesn't even support the modules. Seems a silly decision unless they've made a new thermostat to match and compete with the capabilities of opentherm.

What issues are you facing, these were just common issues and easy fixes. Anything more in depth its easier to just contact Hive then try explain it in a video aha!

@@iheat didn't see any common issues other than explaining what it is etc. I have had a living nightmare from installation with a new boiler 3.5 k ...the system is horrific.

@@iheat comes on with out my switching it on will not switch of other than complete boiler shut down. all devices say its off but no its raging. at least 10 call outs ..gas engineer gets here fiddles one day later back we go. Last year in depth of winter 3 weeks without heating or hot water

Sounds like a heating link not been removed if its always on, who installed it? Doesn't sound like an iHeat job!
