Great video, thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. I ordered mine from Pelican Parts and thank you for this video and showing us how to install this beautiful stick shift that I’m gonna put in my 911. I know this video is three years old, but it doesn’t matter. This is very helpful. Thank you your subscriber over here on the West Coast Los Angeles.
Excellent, sir! Thank you!
Under what circumstances would you go for this rather than the standard relay? I've been considering doing the H4 conversion, which I imagine will draw more power. At the same time, I kind of assumed the wiring was the same for both US and ROW cars, so the H4 would basically be plug-and-play (with the install of the standard relay being a smart choice to protect the switch). I'm trying to wrap my head around what configurations one would choose this setup for.
This a great tutorial thank you
Thanks for the video. Another video idea would be to show others how to add fuses to the ashtray light and ventilation fascia lights. They are both unfused and if they short, can do alot if damage. Thanks
Thanks Great Product!
This is exactly the video I was hoping to find. Very seriously considering upgrading my 81 SC. Are the Hella connectors made in Germany?
Yes, it says Made In Germany on the package of the Hella Headlight Bulb Socket. The relays are from China but are very good quality (Tyco brand), and we also have a German relay upgrade available.
@@jwestengineering7831 great! Thanks . I think these are the same sockets that were in my 70s BMW motorcycles !
Thanks for posting this, I have a better understanding of how the relays are protecting my wiring. I installed the basic kit last year and am considering upgrading to the 100W lamps with the high power relays & harness. I have not been into the headlight buckets on my '81 SC but I'm guessing the wiring is original.
Yet another excellent video. It thoroughly explains the difference between the two relay kits. As a retired engineer, I particularly enjoyed the Green Tint Engineer's Quadrille Pad. I have an 82 SC and will be installing the base relay kit in the very near future. Thanks for taking the time to provide this video.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video and its perfect timing. I had ordered the kit from Pelican but had not yet installed it. The video is a great addition to the written instructions. Thanks again.
Great Video! thumbs up
that was great! straight to the point. I didn't know about the hole adjustment either.
Could you explain what the difference is between these two configurations? Why might I go with the manual lockout as opposed to the auto locked out and vice verse?
im assuming for racing where you don't want to accidentally throw it into reverse?
Can you guys do a vid for a G50 transmission?
Why is the black shifter longer?
The black and aluminum shifters are both available with the stock length stick and the 2 inch extended stick. In the first few seconds of the video, I show a long black and short aluminum upper stick. The assembled shifters are using a long aluminum and short black upper stick, so you see all the combinations in the video. At about the 2 minute mark, you can see that the short black RennShift (right) is the same length as the factory 911 shifter (center).
How did you order your new shifter ? I have tried to call them several times and have gotten no where , is there a website for this product ? I really want to purchase this part , thanks for any help you can provide !
You can order online from www.jwestengineering.com. Our contact information is also there - you can call but please leave a message, we often have machines running and can't pick up - we don't have a dedicated reception. Thanks!
This video is great! A couple of washer's later my shifter feels great and is "snapping" back to center making shifting a pleasure!
BUY IT! I put this shift kit into my 1978 911SC and the difference is night and day! You would think that Porsche with all their racing experience could have installed a better shifter, but instead they put in a slush box piece of crap. This shifter is outstanding, it will transform your car into something that's really fun car to drive. Buy it!
Iv'e just bought one last week. Looks simple enough to fit. Should I spray any grease inside before fitting up?
The shifter internal pivots ride on self-lubricating oilite bronze bushings - no lube required. The springs and lockout have grease already applied. You should apply a silicone grease to the rod bushing and inside the cup bushing socket.
@@jwestengineering7831 lovely. Can't wait to fit it now. 👍🏻
hello, I am about to purchase one on Saturday. Can you tell me the thread pitch on the shaft for the gear knob. I just wanna get every together for a one time install. Much appreciated if you can tell me the thread specs
The part of the shifter that is not covered by the boot, is that left exposed?
The included boot allows the lower part of the shifter to remain exposed (because it looks cool!) If covering the whole shifter is desired, the original boot from a 1973 and later 911 will work great with the RennShift, and they are surprisingly inexpensive directly from Porsche.
Great addition to any 901 / 915 Porsche. Had one for 5+ years, still love it every day!!!
Good time to replace bracket bushing.
Very true. We don't include the rod bushing or other linkage components with the shifter because often customers will replace all the factory parts and then find out the car still does not shift to their liking and purchase the RennShift. The cup bushing is included on the bottom of the shifter shaft. However, we do have package deals that include all the parts to rebuild the linkage. We even have a replacement bracket to hold the shift rod bushing if your is bent/rusty/stripped/etc.
Great videos, makes the decision on which shifter to buy easy.
Hmm...maybe in future videos provide a link to the product in the description? Googling worked for me but it would have been quicker if there was a link.
Hi can u send me a link where i can buy all of the parts i cant find the helicopter joint
Useful information!
Great video! Can you tell me the OD at the top of the shifter?
The OD is the same as the factory shifter in order to accept the factory crush sleeve - 15mm.
Best upgrade for shifting i ever installed on my 914
