Train Mountain Railroad
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 ส.ค. 2014
Train Mountain Railroad is the LONGEST model train layout in the WORLD with over 30 MILES of track. Our scale is generally 1/8", running on 7.5" gauge track - that's a model you RIDE. We're situated in the high desert pines of Oregon, USA. Pay us a virtual visit here! If you'd like to learn more about TM or even plan a visit and tour, check out trainmountain.org/
Moving Day!! For the Historic Weyerhaeuser Locomotive.
An historic locomotive was in danger of being scrapped. Train Mountain Railroad Museum wanted to save it. But how do you move a 100-ton locomotive when the tracks don't go to your property and you have a tight driveway???
Train Mountain Museum, famous as the largest model railroad in the world, adds this locomotive to the collection of rolling stock and snow movers already on display. This move was complex, requiring special heavy-hauler equipment. Check it out!
Train Mountain is in Chiloquin, Oregon USA and is open to visitors. Free riding tours are offered in the summer months. Donations gratefully accepted.

Train Mountain Railroad Historical Video from 1995
You guys just made my bucket list. This place looks amazing!
Whom makes those ballast cars?
They were made by the club many years ago.
Shout out to my Dad, who operated the Crane!
This is known as "panel rail" in the RR industry. RR use sections of pre-fabricated track and stack them on flat cars to be delivered to where ever it is needed. A Burro crane will unload the panels to be placed at the designated places.
Thanks for sharing that! Very interesting!
Lillyvile now has a river, made from blue road, running through it and next year 2025 a large lake
WOW, Very Impressive Place ❤😊!
WOW, A VERY IMPRESSIVE PLACE !❤😊❤😊
WOW, A Very Impressive Place !❤❤😊
Where are located these track ???
Chiloquin, Oregon USA
great Video !
great video ! two of my uncles and my grandfather both worked for Weyerhauser !
Very cool! Glad you liked the video!
I remember doing this back in the late 1990's when I lived at Train Mountain while going to college. I made many switches and straight sections. I sure miss that place. How is Russ doing these days?
I wonder if they thought about tracking the trains with air tags.
Good question! Actually, some trains have a custom app on their phone that transmits their position back to the CTC board. The others are tracked with called-in updates and dead reckoning.
Wow, great footage 👍
Thanks!
Hey... how much does a move like this cost. Just hit me with a number that was in the ball park because I need to move an sw8 / :
Can't really say here, but if you should start a conversation with the folks at Ness Campbell.
@trainmountainrailroad got ya
@@hamiltonsullivan6563 , and when you do, tell them to use a float more suited to the job. this looks like a great float for massive electrical transformers but all the goosenecks make it hard to negotiate tight corners.
@@vsvnrg3263 so you think this trailer was for the most part overkill?
@@hamiltonsullivan6563 , its not how its done here. "steam locomotive pm706, returns back to its home in narrogin. the road trip video" and "aurizon's acn 4145 & 4143 heading across to queensland on the back of 2 trucks" both by western australian train scene. also "trains in south australia: break of gauge strikes again: a different kind of road train" by srewart whitaker.
Never knew anyone ever made a 7.5" ga. 1/8 scale GG1! HOW COOL!
This is so awesome! Definitely making a road trip from San Diego someday🤩
did the 101 only have s rear power truck?
No. Both were electric powered. Motors built into the trucks. The 6-cylinder diesel ran the generator.
@@trainmountainrailroad my take wa because I only saw a big power feed hangin to the cab end. Train Mountain, I'm gonna have to hop in the car and take a weekend.
No safety footwear or gloves, can',t understand how your insurance allows such a thing. In Australia such practices are illegal.
Very cool I just had to turn the volume down every time that horrible music came on
Thank You for this video! That is quite the move! I'm glad the historic diesel found it's home ! :)
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching. We all love a happy ending, right?
Is it possible to show us the trackplan? Watched lots of the videos but they do not give the scale of the railroad!
Estimates vary a bit, but there are over 30 miles of track. This should help: trainmtn.org/tmrr/Resources/maps/Triennial_Map_4-1-18-2.pdf
@@trainmountainrailroad WOW! That is probably the fastest 101 ever ran!
Great to see these kind of projects happen; the skill and planning of this kind of move is almost unbelievable, and funding is a total blessing.
Agreed. When these relics are lost, there’s no going back. It’s important work.
Beautifully shot and edited. I was on the edge of my seat !! Fabulous story and result, getting a company consist together like that . I had a chuckle when I saw the crossing lights and the yield sign....well, obviously yielding. The irony was not lost !
Good eyes! And thank you.
Interesting how we have different names for things over here . Cross ties we call sleepers . The metal fitting the rail rest on we call chairs . We do not use screws to hold the rails down or screw bolts . but have completely different fittings called keys, pigs tails or spring clips . But there are many different types out there being used .
Did you see it take out the wire at 20:00 in the video
Yes, it did hit it, but nothing broke. Whew!
I LOVE train mountain!! Can anyone operate a train?
Gotta be a member, but anyone can be a member! Gotta have a train too, but hang out with the volunteer work crews and some owner may give you a turn.
@@trainmountainrailroad I live in MD so I was wondering if I could make a trip over one day and drive
It is fantastic to see this piece of Weyerhaeuser logging railroad history in Southern Oregon preserved at Train Mountain, hats off to everyone involved, Well Done!!
Very impressive! Glad this locomotive will be preserved. It was in such an awkward spot and I'm sure it'll be appreciated by a lot more people now.
Yes! Already we’ve had many guests enjoying the Weyco consist!
What's the longest train you have seen or pulled on train mountain?
Maybe this one: th-cam.com/video/1M7TwRCzivw/w-d-xo.html
Your work is amazing! All the work that has been put into Lillyville has created a great town. I completely understand why you are creating everything, before my dad passed he built miniature doll houses for people. I hope to someday make it to Train Mountain.
This layout blows my mind! I actually need to plan a trip from Colorado :-)
You should! Folks have come from MUCH further just to check it out.
Great to see the young ones working here. Passing the torch
Great video! Come see lucastrainverse!
That locomotive calls Kitsap Live Steamers home.
It can come visit TM anytime!
Is there seat belts on the chairs?? Autistic kids would love this
Is ther anyway to purchase a box car with a railroad name on it? And donate it!
Train Mountain doesn't make or sell cars, but there are several small businesses that do make them and each one can be customized with whatever railroad name or industry you'd like. The Train Game would be a super fun way to donate a car because, whenever you like, you could check on where it has been moved and how many times it has been moved. You could even see it in our webcams from time to time...
Very Cool
So is train mountain private or restricted public?
It’s privately owned and welcomes visitors all year during business hours. Walking tours are available and riding tours are often available as well.
I wonder how many of them are still around and running yet? 28 years later.
Most all of them. Just with new owners for most.
As a black british man, i wonder if i could join this community lol😂😂😂
Come on by! Check out "Plan Your Visit" on our web site. See you soon!
Che materiale sono le traverse ?😊
Recycled plastic.
My wife and I got to meet Jim today at Train Mountain. It was our first visit. As total strangers Jim offered to take us on a tour around the park in his truck. He showed us the repair shop, track shop and of course Lillyville. It is obvious this is a labor of love for him. Thanks Jim, You are an incredible ambassador for Train Mountain and I intend to become a member.
Cool !
what programming language and technology stack is used to make it? please let me know
The logic is done on intel 8086s in the field, all reporting to a raspberry pi that manages the system. The 8086s are in assembly and I think the pi is running Perl. Hope it helps
Absolutely love this channel. Truthfully, I've never seen anything like the layout they have. Always standing by for the next video :-)
Thanks so much! Two good videos in the works and should both be released in the next two weeks: Moving the #101 Locomotive and the last part of the 2024 Ops Meet coverage. Hope you enjoy them!
Oh cool, Mike was gracious enough to give my son and I a ride this weekend. Lookin good you guys!!
So what does a non-fun day look like on a railroad like this, because I could not possibly imagine that. Oh...and that yard is massive in any scale!!!
That’s a very hard question!
Do you still do a Holiday Express?
Sorry, we haven't done that for a few years due to a lack of volunteers available on site that time of year. But every year we consider the possibility, so keep watching our web site or Facebook page.
@@trainmountainrailroad I do plan however coming to your annual "Pumpkin Express" hosted by the Klamath & Western RR group next month. I have attempted to call them twice for some info and gave them my information, so-- hopefully I will hear back from them soon. I have started a brand new TH-cam channel for kids young and old that's akin to the Captain Kangaroo/Mr. Roger's shows. It's called the "Conductor Casey Show" and your wonderful model railroad will be the very first adventure trip our film crew is going to visit and start off the holiday season with a "toot toot". Thanks so much for your reply. It means a lot to us! Take care and see y'all there soon! 😊🚂🚂🚂
@@ConductorCaseyShow Sorry about the lack of a response to your message. We get literally thousands of visitors each year, which may be the reason. I recommend you keep an eye on the Train Mountain and Klamath and Western Facebook pages. That will be the first place the schedule for that event is announced.
@@trainmountainrailroad thanks sir, will do!
They literally treat this like an actual railroad. KEEP IT UP
Thanks, caseymoore1469. But of course it IS and actual railroad! Just a bit smaller scale.
