Joe Louis vs. Jack Sharkey over KHJ Radio, August 18, 1936
มุมมอง 7K8 ปีที่แล้ว
Ted Husing and Socker Cole of CBS describing the action as Joe Louis takes on Jack Sharkey at New York's Yankee Stadium on August 18, 1936. This is how the broadcast sounded in Los Angeles when KHJ aired the network feed, along with the closing minutes of that evening's "Camel Music Caravan" starring Benny Goodman, and a couple of station legal IDs.

Wally George on "Rollergames"
มุมมอง 15K17 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a whiff of Wally George outside his "Hot Seat" shout show format, and, naturally, he still shouted. It was as a halftime interviewer on "Rollergames," the failed 1989 retooling of Roller Derby. Also on the clip are Bill Griffiths (owner of the producing promotion), Georgia Hase (longtime heel figure in Griffiths productions) and "Guru" John Drew (a Hase protege and manager of a competin...

I found this video, because I am reading my grandparents long distance love letters to each other from the 1930s. Nana asked Grandpa what he thought about the fight last night. I am grateful, Nana dated every letter she wrote, so I could find out what fight they were talking about! :) Thank you for posting this!

Besides this event officially marking the end of the American republic as it was formerly conceived and constituted, it was also a golden opportunity - a shot in the arm, if you will - for ambitious up-and-coming and/or fifth-rate "journalists" to revitalize their moribund careers.

Interesting. About 10 years ago or so, I downloaded this KHJ aircheck recording. But, it did not include the end of the Benny Goodman remote. It started with the KHJ ID, went into the fight from Yankee Stadium. Then another KHJ station identification, with a shirt commercial announcement. Then, into another CBS show Gang Busters. .The aircheck ended with another KHJ ID and commercial.

This must have been a shock for viewers. One minute they're watching some mundane discussion about zippers on clothing, and the next second they hear the President was cut down by an assassin's bullets. The lady talking about zippers looks to be appearing on a local talk show. Stuff like that was usually broadcast live. After she was cut-off midsentence, someone probably told her she could go home now. They wouldn't be talking about zippers anymore.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about this and wondering what the truth was. I've read studies and seen countless re-enactments. I've attended lectures. I've read books. I have even conducted my own simulations. I can now confidently say I know the truth: Zippers and buttons in no way make a hood easier to put on or take off.

Trains de Musique-FLASH-The most freighting word known to the broadcast industry. I never personally saw one but knew that if one came across the wire it meant something catastrophic had happened and it would be tersely worded. For example the FLASH on the death of President Kennedy was two words: Kennedy dead. Simple and yet right to the point.
